For instance, the cerebellum, basal ganglia and hippocampus respectively regulate fine motor coordination, voluntary action and motivation, and declarative memory and navigation. This generally-accepted approach provides only a partial explanation when we consider all the other functions that require these brain structures. Neuroscientific research has growingly focused on these other functions of individual brain regions in recent years. Going beyond a classical understanding of functional specialization, brain regions are now studied concerning their computational capabilities that allow them to contribute to several different tasks. According to this view, subregions of the brain constitute temporal organization machines, or neuronal clocks, that contribute to various cognitive and behavioral processes. This review portrays the historical foundations and working principles of this new paradigm increasingly dominating contemporary neuroscience. Brain oscillations that underlie the concept of neuronal clock are studied with regards to the temporal framework they provide for neuronal computations. The cerebellum, basal ganglia and hippocampus, dominated by oscillations at different frequency ranges, are examined as neuronal clocks that provide generic solutions for various functions requiring different temporal resolutions. Family support is very important during preschool years, as the early education of the child affects the learning process, academic achievement, and social skills in later years. The goal of this article was to examine the relationship between family involvement and children's self-esteem and social-emotional adaptation. Self-esteem and social-emotional adjustment are two concepts that begin to develop during early childhood and are closely related to behaviors and skills in later life. Previous research shows the importance of family involvement on children’s self-esteem and social-emotional development. In this article, we first discussed the role of family involvement on child development. Then, we examined the effects of family involvement on children, parents, and teachers. Finally, we focused on the effects of family involvement on self-esteem and social-emotional adaptation. One of the most remarkable approaches put forward in this context is the Cultivation Theory developed by Gerbner (1969). The theory, which focuses on the impact of TV viewing on individuals perceptions of reality, assumes that as the frequency of exposure to messages presented in TV increases, individuals’ perceptions of the real world are shaped according to these messages. The development of gender stereotypes and beliefs in gender equality in children and adolescents may also be fed by the “cultivation” function of TV, which is widely used by them also. The aim of this study is to systematically review the studies focuses on the relationship between frequency of watching TV and children’s or adolescents’ gender-based stereotypes in the context of Cultivation Theory. A total of 23 studies conducted between 1960 and 2020 were reviewed in this context and it was determined that both children and adolescents had more traditional beliefs and attitudes about gender roles with the increase in the frequency of watching TV. Findings were discussed in the light of the relevant literature. Doll Completion Story Task (DCST) is a common measure in literature, tapping into attachment-related secure base scripts in children. The purpose of the current research was to conduct a preliminary reliability and validity study of Adult-DCST. In the development phase, the protocol was applied to 40 healthy adults and 20 psychiatric inpatients, and “Adult-DCST Application and Scoring Manual” was formed according to the content examinations of Adult-DCST. Following, 20 participants were randomly selected from 60 participant-pool of Adult-DCST applications. Inter-rater reliability and validity examinations were conducted among randomly-selected 20 participants (nhealthy = 9; npsychiatricinnpatient = 11). Participants with the mean age of 22.15 filled out Relationship Scales Questionnaire (RSQ), Experiences in Close Relationships-R (ECR-R), and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES). Results indicated that inter-rater agreement for Reflective Functioning, Attachment, Anxiety and Avoidance dimensions of Adult-DCST were .83, .89, .79, and .83, respectively. Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficients of mentioned dimensions ranged between .79 and .85. Also, there were significant relationships between Adult-DCST dimensions and sub-scales of RSQ and ECR-R, and total scores of RSES in the expected directions. However, it has not attracted sufficient attention from the psychology literature in Turkey. This review aims to evaluate studies on envy from the social psychology perspective and to contribute to the literature related to this topic in Turkey. In the first part of the article, a definition for envy is provided on the basis of empirical studies and the difference between envy and jealousy, and envy and benign form of it (i.e. gıpta in Turkish) is discussed. The second part of the article reviews the effects of envy on daily life on the basis of empirical studies again. According to research, envy has a mediating role in the relationship between social media use and psychological well-being. In addition, envy, in organizational contexts, reduces constructive organizational behavior and increases destructive ones. The characteristics of organizational context, of employees and of the leader affect the level of envy experienced in the workplace. Finally, successful individuals feel discomfort and fear due to being the target of envy. The reactions to being at the target of envy differ according to personal, relational and cultural factors. As indicated by the research on this topic, envy affects human life in a broad context. More research needs to be done in Turkey on this emotion to have a more complete understanding. Privacy invasion is the unauthorized intervention of other people in the private area of the person. The aim of the study was to assess the reliability and validity of the Turkish adaptation of Privacy Invasion Scale (PIS). A total of 1211 adolescents (621 (51.3%) girls and 590 boys (48.7%) between the ages of 12 and 18 years) participated (M = 14.93, SD = 2.01) in the study. The findings of factor analysis showed that in line with the suggested correction indices, the errors of item 5 and item 2, item 6 and item 4 were associated with each other and it was observed that the new model produced was very well adapted to the data χ2 (8, N = 1211) = 2.583, p > .05, χ2/df = .32, GFI = .99, AGFI = .99, NFI = .99, CFI = 1.00, RMSEA = .00. Internal consistency coefficients of the scale were found as .75 for mothers and .73 for fathers. In the study, depression scale which is subscale of Brief Symptom Inventory was used in order to evaluate the criterion-related validity of the PIS. It was found that the privacy invasion of both mothers and fathers perceived by adolescents was associated with depression. Various studies have been conducted and theories have been developed in order to reduce the negative consequences of prejudice and discrimination and to develop more positive intergroup attitudes and behaviors. One of the theories developed in this context is the intergroup imagined contact theory. Imagined contact is a type of indirect contact that contributes to the reduction of prejudices through a positive mental communication between group members. Number of studies carried out in Turkey about imagined contact theory is quite limited. Therefore, the purpose of the current review study is to present the imagined contact theory and some research findings conducted within the framework of this theory, to make suggestions based on the presented research findings, and to provide a comprehensive Turkish resource for students and researchers who want to have information about imagined contact. For this purpose, firstly, brief information about the concepts of prejudice, stereotype and discrimination and the theories that imagined contact theory based on were presented. Then, imagined contact theory, methodological modifications of imagined contact settings, and related research findings carried out worldwide and in Turkey were reviewed separately. Finally, some opinions and suggestions related to the theory and future directions were presented. The present study aims to evaluate the role of possible psychosocial variables associated with Posttraumatic Growth (PTG) among outpatients with diabetes with a history of inpatient treatment. Within a theoretical framework of the model of Schaefer and Moos (1998), the roles of perceived social support, self-efficacy, diabetes-related variables, and cognitive processing have been examined by employing structural equation modeling in a sample of outpatients with diabetes having a history of at least one inpatient treatment. A total of 275 diabetic outpatients, 183 women and 92 men, who were treated at least once in a hospital, participated in the study. The mean age of participants was 52.09 ± 9.49 years. Diabetes-related factors mediated the relationship between perceived social support and PTG. Also, cognitive processing mediated the relationship between self-efficacy and PTG. Increasing patients' self-efficacy and facilitating social support networks should be taken into account when designing psychosocial intervention programs in diabetic patients, as the programs with content support high control perception of their health.","PeriodicalId":262181,"journal":{"name":"Nesne Psikoloji Dergisi","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134400252","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
