Participants (N = 377; Women = 276 & Men = 101; MAge = 21.83, SDAge = 2.00) completed scales of Attitudes toward Gay Men (ATG) and Lesbians (ATL), system justification, and demographic information. Men had more negative scores on ATG and ATL than women. Gay men were evaluated more negatively than lesbians by men. Having higher scores on system justification, being close to extreme right political orientation, and having lower social contact with gay men/lesbians were associated with negative ATG and ATL. Men scored higher on ATG, indicating negative attitudes toward gay men, but there was not a significant difference between women and men for ATL.","PeriodicalId":262181,"journal":{"name":"Nesne Psikoloji Dergisi","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116478481","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Another concept that is related to stress is mindfulness. The studies investigating the association between stress and mindfulness reveals that these two concepts are negatively associated. Based on this, the aim of this study is examining the relationship between university adaptation, perceived stress and mindfulness. The sample of the study consisted of 240 first year students aged between 1729. Demographics questionnaire, Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), and University Life Scale (ULS) were conducted to the participants. The results indicated that there was a significant negative association between perceived stress and university adaptation variables (emotional adaptation, university environment adaptation, personal adaptation, adaptation with the opposite sex, academic adaptation and social adaptation). There was a significant negative association between students’ mindfulness and perceived stress levels and there was a positive association between university adaptation variables (except from personal adaptation) and mindfulness. Additionally, it was detected that mindfulness mediated the association between perceived stress and university adaptation variables (except from personal adaptation). Consequently, the present study contributed to better understanding how stress influence the university adaptation. It suggests that it would be better to help develop mindfulness in intervention programs concerning increasing university adaptation.","PeriodicalId":262181,"journal":{"name":"Nesne Psikoloji Dergisi","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134174508","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Various clinical and personality tests, and also a comprehensive neuropsychological test battery were administered to currentsmokers (n=28), former smokers (n=18) and never-smokers (n=43). Findings following clinical and personality testing indicated that current-smokers had higher scores in novelty and sensation seeking, venturesomeness and disinhibition but had lower scores in obsessivecompulsive and avoidant personality disorder than never-smokers and former smokers. For neuropsychological performance; although the current-smokers’ performance was as good as never-smokers and former smokers on the neuropsychological tests which are sensitive to the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex dysfunction, in comparison to the never-smokers and former smokers, they performed rather poorly on the neuropsychological tests that are sensitive to inhibitory control and the orbitofrontal cortex dysfunction, such as rule breaking. The results pointed out that the orbitofrontal cortex plays a critical role in cigarette smoking.","PeriodicalId":262181,"journal":{"name":"Nesne Psikoloji Dergisi","volume":"80 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121483652","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
