For this purpose, two studies were carried out. In the first study, the Romantic Partner Conflict Scale and the Conflict Resolution Styles Scale (CRSS) were applied to the participants in a romantic relationship (dating, engaged and married). Exploratory factor analysis results with 340 participants (Mage=28.08, SDage=10.56) showed that the scale was suitable for the six-factor structure as in the original: compromise, domination, submission, separation, avoidance, and interactional reactivity. The correlation coefficients between the RPCS and the CRSS ranged from -.23 to .61. The Cronbach's alpha internal consistency coefficients of the subscales of the RPCS range from .76 to .94. In order to confirm the factor structure of the scale, 336 romantic individuals (Mage=25.53, SDage=9.13) participated in the second study. The Relationship Stability Scale and Love Attitudes Scale were applied to the participants along with the RPCS. The results of the confirmatory factor analysis performed to test the scale's factor structure and the correlations with the related variables showed that the RPCS is a reliable and valid measurement tool in evaluating conflict resolution strategies.","PeriodicalId":262181,"journal":{"name":"Nesne Psikoloji Dergisi","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130704093","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of the study was to examine the effects of self-construals on the relationship between gender roles, emotion regulation difficulties and psychological symptoms (depression, anxiety, somatization). The sample of the study consists of 471 participants (273 females, 58%; 198 males, 42%; Mage=33.86, SD=10.5). Participants completed Balanced Integration-Differentation Scale (BID), Difficulties in Emotion Regulation-Brief Form (DERS-16), Gender Roles Attitude Scale, Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) and demographic information form. The result of the Multiple Linear Regression analyses revealed that predictors of psychological symptoms and their predictive strength differed for self-types. Difficulty in accepting one’s emotions predicted anxiety only for the separated-individuation self-type. Egalitarian gender attitudes and difficulties in managing negative feelings predicted somatization for the relational-individuation self-type. Marriage related gender attitudes and impulsivity predicted somatization for the relational-patterned self-type. Additionally, the strength of predictions was higher for the separated-individuation self type. The study draws attention to social factors of psychological symptoms and contributes to the literature within the field of self-construals and psychological health.","PeriodicalId":262181,"journal":{"name":"Nesne Psikoloji Dergisi","volume":"2014 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127408552","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating role of parents’ positive emotional socialization strategies in the relationship between parental goals and children’s prosocial and aggressive behaviors. For this purpose, the study was conducted with mothers of 231 children between the ages of 4 and 7 years. The mothers were asked to complete the Demographic Information Form, Parental Goals Scale, the Coping with Children’s Negative Emotions Scale, Ladd and Profilet Child Behavior Scale, and finally the Strength - Difficulties Questionnaire in this study. The results of the mediation analysis conducted with structural equation modeling showed that positive emotional socialization of the parents fully mediated the relationship between parental goals and children's prosocial and aggressive behaviors. Parental goals positively predicted the positive emotional socialization strategies of the parents and parents' positive emotional socialization strategies predicted the child's prosocial behavior positively, while negatively predicting the aggressive behavior of the child. These results emphasize the importance of mothers' child-rearing goals and the positive emotional socialization strategies they use for the early psychosocial adjustment of children.","PeriodicalId":262181,"journal":{"name":"Nesne Psikoloji Dergisi","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125449995","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the current study, the position of the target is manipulated across trials (trial n trial n+1) and the target could appear at previous target, distractor or empty /neutral position. Positioning the target at the same position as in the previous trial, compared to neutral position, facilitates the target detection process, known as facilitatory priming effect. Positioning the target at previous distractor location, compared to neutral position, impairs the target detection process, known as inhibitory priming effect. The aim of the present study is to investigate modulations in the facilitatory and inhibitory priming effects,which are related to spatial attention processes, in the presence of different cue types (symbolic, semantic, neutral cues). One of the symbolic, semantic or neutral cues was presented prior to the display onset. The spatial cue could either indicate the location of the target or the distractor item. The cue pointing the target’s location generated the valid cue condition and the cue pointing one of the distractors’ location generated the invalid cue condition. Task performance was assessed by the reaction time dependent variable for the different cue types and cue validty conditions. The results revealed that cue validity and cue type factors affected the facilitatory and inhibitory priming effects differently. As the current study is the first one to investigate these factors, the findings have the potential to deepen the knowledge on spatial attention processes.","PeriodicalId":262181,"journal":{"name":"Nesne Psikoloji Dergisi","volume":"05 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116777506","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, some people hold negative attitudes towards COVID-19 vaccination. The present study aims to examine how the attitudes against the COVID-19 vaccine are affected by the death salience and fear of COVID-19. Following this aim quasi-experimental research was conducted by utilizing death salience manipulation based on the Terror Management Theory. 288 people participated in the study, 146 people (77% women, 23% men) in the experimental condition, and 142 (73% women, 27% men) in the control condition. Data were collected online with a questionnaire consisting of the Vaccine Hesitancy Scale (VHS), Fear of Covid-19 Scale (FCV-19S), the Emotion Checklist (EC) in the pre-test, and the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS) and Socio-demographics beside VHS in post-test. The results of the statistical analyses comparing the pre- and post-tests revealed a significant decrease in the VHS-total and subscale scores excepting “vaccine hesitancy” following death salience manipulation in the experimental condition. However, there were statistically significant decreases in the VHS-total and “vaccine repugnance” subscale scores in the control condition. The findings of the study revealed that anti-vaccination attitudes have been affected by death salience. The results of the study supported the explanations of Terror Management Theory by showing that the increase in fear affects attitude change, especially when the strength of the attitude is weak.","PeriodicalId":262181,"journal":{"name":"Nesne Psikoloji Dergisi","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125398400","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The original scales based on adolescent reporting were rearranged in line with the suggestions of the researchers who developed the original scale, in a way that permitted adolescents’ evaluation of their parents separately and mothers’ self-evaluation. Thus, we examined the validity and reliability of four different forms including the Mother Behavior Questionnaire-Adolescent Form (MBQ-A), the Quality of Mother-Adolescent Relationship Questionnaire-Adolescent Form (QMARQ-A), the Mother Behavior Questionnaire-Mother Form (MBQ-M), the Quality of Mother-Adolescent Relationship Questionnaire-Mother Form (QMARQ-M). The study was conducted in independent samples with 1033 students aged 11-17 (Mean age = 14.01, SD = 1.75) and 465 mothers (Mean age = 44.14, SD = 5.72) with children aged 11-17. The results of the exploratory factor analysis performed to examine the construct validity of the scales showed that the factor structures of all scales were consistent with the original scales. In addition, the Youth Self Report (YSR 11-18) was used to determine the criterion validity of the scales and it was seen that the relationships examined were significant and expected. Cronbach's alpha coefficients for the sub-dimensions of the scales ranged from .81 to .91. Findings show that the validity and reliability of the adolescents and mothers' forms of MBQ and QMARQ are at a sufficient and acceptable level.","PeriodicalId":262181,"journal":{"name":"Nesne Psikoloji Dergisi","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124597455","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Eating-related Intrusive Thoughts Inventory (INPIAS), composed of eating-related ITs (Part 1), consequences of interference (Part 2A) and control strategies (Part 2B) of ITs, was developed to examine ITs in Eating Disorders (EDs). The Turkish adaptation of INPIAS via reliability and validity analyses was conducted in this study. The sample consisted of 339 university students. INPIAS and Eating Disorder Examination Scale and Body Image Scale (for concurrent validity), Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Revised Form, Beck Anxiety Scale and Beck Depression Scale (for convergent validity) and the Demographics Form were used. Results revealed that the five-factor solution from the exploratory factor analysis (Part 1) and the original factor structures (Part 2A and Part 2B) showed a better fit. INPIAS had positive correlations with other scales. The reliability scores revealed Cronbach alpha values of .98 (Part 1), .92 (Part 2A), and .89 (Part 2B) and test-retest correlations of .98 (Part 1), .93 (Part 2A), and .92 (Part 2B). So, INPIAS may be utilized to examine ITs related to eating, diet, body image, exercise, and related control strategies. INPIAS is assumed to enlighten future studies about the relationship between ITs and EDs.","PeriodicalId":262181,"journal":{"name":"Nesne Psikoloji Dergisi","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129860962","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To this end, in the first stage of the study, we conducted a qualitative study with 102 participants (M = 24.32, SD = 3.41) to reveal how individuals who prefer to remain single are perceived in society. Together with the findings of this qualitative study, we created the first form of the scale. We examined the scale's construct validity by exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. As a result of the exploratory factor analysis performed with a sample of 358 participants (M = .29; SD = 7.92), we found that the scale had a single factor structure consisting of 15 items explaining 56.5% of the total variance. This scale structure was confirmed by confirmatory factor analysis with another study group of 406 participants (M = 28.72, SD = 7.93). We tested the criterion-related validity of the scale with the Inönü Marriage Attitude Scale. The correlation coefficient calculated between the scores from the two scales was .40. The scale's reliability was examined using Cronbach's Alpha analysis and split-half test. The Cronbach's Alpha coefficient of the scale was .95. The correlation between the two halves of the test is .87. These findings provide evidence that the stereotypes scale for voluntary singles is a valid and reliable.","PeriodicalId":262181,"journal":{"name":"Nesne Psikoloji Dergisi","volume":"373 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131642654","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sample consisted of 166 women (54%) and 142 men (46%)-. The mean age of the sample was 41.20 (S=10.19) and the mean of the total working time was 18.04 (S=10.60), 92% of the sample stated that they were working full-time (n=283) and 8% of them were working part-time (n=26). The simple linear regression analyzes supported the hypotheses, and there were findings supporting that WLC and LWC can make individuals feel older than they are, and WLE can make them feel younger. Data were collected from 373 university students via demographic information form and the Turkish versions of Young Schema Questionnaire Short Form-3, Humor Styles Questionnaire, and Beck Depression Inventory. Using Hayes Macro, five separate mediation analyses were performed for testing the indirect associations, one for each schema domain. The results generally revealed that humor styles partially mediated the relationships between the schema domains and depression symptoms. Particularly, self-defeating humor style was found to be the most consistent mediator between the relationship the early maladaptive schema domains with the severity of depression symptoms. Also, the findings showed for the first time that aggressive style (partially) mediated the relations between some of the schema domains and depression symptoms and was negatively associated with these symptoms. Moving from these findings, it can be suggested that humor styles may serve as coping strategies for early maladaptive schemas. Thus, measuring and addressing humor styles in the treatment of depression symptoms may be beneficial in increasing the effectiveness of treatments. In addition, the current finding on aggressive humor style suggests that there may be cultural differences in the use of humor. However, cross-cultural studies are needed to conclude that cultural factors change the mediating role of humor styles in the relationship between schema domains and depression symptoms.","PeriodicalId":262181,"journal":{"name":"Nesne Psikoloji Dergisi","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133234542","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
