In this e-search work, an HCI pattern language management tool (HCI PLMT) was developed based on the ontological-approach we proposed in the work of Badr (2005). The HCI PLMT is an automated tool that manages the searching and browsing of patterns existing within the HCI pattern language that we also proposed in the work of Badr (2005). The PLMT manages the addition of new user interface design patterns to the language and their connection to the existing patterns. It also supports the modification of patterns and/or links existing within the pattern language, as well as the addition of new links between existing entries within the HCI pattern language. A hierarchical design is unavoidable because of a huge circuit size. It is more important how we can consider hierarchically meaningful structure in circuit delay analysis. To improve accuracy of hierarchical timing analysis, in this paper we inject the notions of local false coupling interaction and global false coupling interaction, then propose a comprehensive approach that uses functional relations considering global false coupling interactions generated by connections between modules to identify valid coupling interaction. These effects include, mainly, the quantum confinement of carriers by gate-oxides in the direction normal to the interfaces, and the quantum transport of carriers along the channel. In a previous work, the use of transfer matrix method (TMM) was proposed for the simulation of the first effect. In this work, TMM is proposed to be used for the solution of Schrodinger equation with open boundary conditions to simulate the second quantum-mechanical effect. Transport properties such as transmission probability, carrier concentration, and I-V characteristics resulting from quantum transport simulation using TMM are compared with that using the traditional tight-binding model (TBM). For such problems, exact algorithms that always find an optimal solution are only useful for small optimization problems, so heuristic algorithms such as the genetic algorithm must be used in practice. In this paper, we apply the genetic algorithm to the nonlinear MIMO problem of complex objective function. We compare the genetic algorithm with the exact optimization results. Our empirical results indicate that by using the genetic algorithm is able to find an optimal solution at speed orders of magnitude faster than exact algorithms. For the purposes of real time fire pattern recognition tasks neural networks (NNs) are typically trained with respect of error function minimization by propagating a linear sum of errors. Recent studies in the fire vision recognition have confronted the problem of the inconstant and different shapes of fire which required improving generalization of the NNs. Using 3-level 2D discrete wavelet transform (2D-DWT) for image data compression, fractal encoding is employed for generating the fractal parameters of the DWT coefficients of the third level subimages (the coarser scale). This should decrease the encoding fractal processing time. The subimages of the third level and that of the subsequent levels (finer scales) are reconstructed from the transmitted fractal parameters of level three by exploiting the high correlations among the DWT coefficients in different scales which is called embedded fractal coding (EFC) scheme. For further reconstructed image quality improvement, an adaptive technique using vector quantization is used to transmit some DWT coefficients. This is called the adaptive embedded fractal coding/vector quantization (AEFC/VQ) scheme. Periodic checkpointing of running tasks is one of the common strategies for achieving acceptable fault tolerance. A problem usually arises, that is, temporary stored data in a checkpoint file for some long running tasks might be too large in size to be reliably transmitted between nodes without consuming network bandwidth. Data loss may also occur when transmitting such large amount of data in a non-reliable communication environment (e.g. desktop grid). In this paper, a modified application level incremental checkpointing approach is proposed in which the size of transmitted checkpoint data can be reduced to about 3% of its original size with little overhead on computation time. The proposed approach also investigates a new mechanism for safely storing a checkpoint file with reliance on the availability of the submitting node only. A simulator have been built using the .Net framework 1.1 to test the validity of the proposed approach using an application code built on variable dimensions' matrix multiplication.
