These pose a significant challenge to the telecommunication industry and the environment. This challenge has necessitated considering energy efficiency as a critical design pillar in 5G and future wireless networks. As a result, current research efforts for future wireless networks focus on minimising energy usage and improving efficiency. This work investigates several energy optimisation techniques in the present and future wireless networks, their contributions, advantages, and limitations. Based on the review of different techniques, we discuss the architecture of the massive MIMO (mMIMO) technique, including its operation and requirements. We also present the performance evaluation of mMIMO using different precoding algorithms, which is crucial for energy efficiency in future wireless networks. We further review incorporating intelligence using a Machine Learning (ML) approach in switching off underused mMIMO arrays to minimise energy usage. Finally, we discuss several critical open research issues in mMIMO and ML that make future research and implementation possible in next-generation wireless networks.","PeriodicalId":261718,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 7th Forum on Research and Technologies for Society and Industry Innovation (RTSI)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127454266","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We used the EMOTIV Insight headset in conjunction with EMOTIV’s software tools to interpret brain activity and an Arduino microcontroller to handle interfacing between the computer and the controlled device. This study evaluates the feasibility of moving a car on a slot car track using the focus levels of the user as a reference. Comparing the concentration levels achieved while completing a logic-based puzzle with those reached when focusing on the car suggests the viability of this approach for the task since users can effectively and consciously control their attention level. This approach offers flexibility to adapt a wide range of appliances or toys without reliance on the manufacturer to provide accessibility, offering to people with severe physical disabilities new opportunities to interact with the world. The proposed methodology allows to conduct testing inexpensively and effectively, helping discern the best approach for a customized product before manufacturing it.","PeriodicalId":261718,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 7th Forum on Research and Technologies for Society and Industry Innovation (RTSI)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126955271","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, sub-100 mV supply voltages hamper digital-enable devices due to their non-discrete and highly non-linear response. In this paper, a low-power Smith trigger comparator is proposed to interface spiking analog eNeurons and digital circuits. To this end, a subthreshold bias and BiCMOS 55 nm node technology are chosen. The proposed comparator is post-layout validated, having a maximum decision frequency of 400 kHz and an energy efficiency of 747 aJ/spike. This performance is compatible with existing artificial neurons.","PeriodicalId":261718,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 7th Forum on Research and Technologies for Society and Industry Innovation (RTSI)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129607553","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The surface plasmon resonance (SPR) mechanism is achieved by coating the hybrid gold/TiO2 layer over the PCF. The simulation and numerical analysis are done by the finite element method. The normal and malignant cells are detected by measuring the resonance wavelength shift which helps to estimate the wavelength sensitivity and resolution. In results, the maximum wavelength sensitivity in x-polarization mode is achieved as 11,034 nm/RIU for breast cancer MCF-7 cells and 9,285 nm/RIU in y-polarization mode with very low resolution in the range of $10^{-6}$RIU. In addition, the impact of the presence of metallic thin film, air holes pitch and RI of the analytes is observed and optimized through supervised machine learning approach with low mean square error (mse). With enhanced sensing performance of the proposed sensor, it can be used as fast, efficient and low-cost cancer and other blood related disease detection device.","PeriodicalId":261718,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 7th Forum on Research and Technologies for Society and Industry Innovation (RTSI)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114891816","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Common threats to such systems include impersonation, replay, speech synthesis, and voice conversion attacks. Of these attacks, replay is the easiest to implement where a command is recorded and replayed. This paper explores the development of a lightweight intrusion detection neural network based on a recent command voice replay dataset. A lightweight model based on 1D Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) was proposed. The trained model was compared with baseline models based on Gaussian Mixture Models (GMM) using Constant Q Cepstral Coefficients (CQCC) and Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficient (MFCC). The proposed model outperformed the GMM models, and its size was significantly lower making it more feasible for embedded systems implementation.","PeriodicalId":261718,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 7th Forum on Research and Technologies for Society and Industry Innovation (RTSI)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116428496","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, a low complexity and ultra-high speed QCA comparator and even parity generator is presented employing an optimal XOR gate. The optimal XOR gate is based on cell interaction and non-majority based, which needs fewer cells compared to AND-OR-INVERTER based XOR gates. The proposed comparator requires single layer for its QCA implementation and achieves considerable improvements as compared to prior designs in terms of design metrics like complexity, latency and area usage. To explore the efficacy of non-majority gate based XOR gate, even parity generators of varying lengths 4, 8, 16, and 32bits are also implemented. The proposed designs have superior performance in terms of area, complexity and latency in comparison to existing QCA-based XOR structures. All the proposed designs are implemented, simulated and functionally verified by QCADesigner tool.","PeriodicalId":261718,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 7th Forum on Research and Technologies for Society and Industry Innovation (RTSI)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126112457","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A sufficient condition for the convergence in the mean of the LSRA algorithm is also derived. The fixed-point LSRA-based adaptive noise canceller employed in this work is fully quantized using an in-house quantize function. The most effective number of quantization bits required for the various parameters are found to be 6-bits and are determined through rigorous simulations. The filtered ECG signal free from 60 Hz PLI is successfully recovered using a novel 6-bit fixed-point LSRA-based adaptive noise canceller.","PeriodicalId":261718,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 7th Forum on Research and Technologies for Society and Industry Innovation (RTSI)","volume":"21 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120985885","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They offer the possibility to massively ingest and instantly share big volumes of user-generated content before, during, and after emergency events. Being able to accurately quantity the impact of such hazardous events could greatly help all organizations involved in the emergency management cycle to adequately plan the required recovery operations. In this work, we propose a novel Natural Language Processing approach built on rule-based algorithms able to estimate, from tweets posted during natural hazards, the impact of emergency events in terms of affected population and infrastructures. We implement our approach in an operational environment and present its validation on a publicly released dataset of more than 1.4K manually annotated tweets, showing an overall weighted F1 score of 0.77.","PeriodicalId":261718,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 7th Forum on Research and Technologies for Society and Industry Innovation (RTSI)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133779585","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Minimizing the total cost and emission of the system are considered as the objective functions. The multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithm is applied on a multi-microgrid system that consists of four microgrids each includes diesel generators, wind turbines, photovoltaic units, battery, and local loads. The multi-microgrid system can exchange power with the electricity grid. Moreover, the adjacent microgrids in the multi-microgrid system can share power with each other. The impact of the variation of battery charging and discharging efficiency, the electricity price, the capacity of diesel generators and renewable-based units, the maximum exchangeable power between the multi-microgrid system and the electricity grid and the power sharing among adjacent microgrids on day-ahead units’ scheduling of multi-microgrid are evaluated through sensitivity analysis in simulation results.","PeriodicalId":261718,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 7th Forum on Research and Technologies for Society and Industry Innovation (RTSI)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128329756","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
