That model allows any organization's upper management to make a thorough assessment of the company by means of analyzing nine (9) organizational factors with reference to four (4) specific dimensions (social, environmental, managerial, and economic). These nine (9) organizational factors are deployed in 48 variables for analyses, and one of these variables is value creation through innovation. From the assessments and analyses derived from the RISE model, several research-worthy questions arise, such as, Which variables explain better the phenom of value creation through innovation? Which variables must the upper echelons concentrate their efforts on to generate value and grant sustainability? This work aims to present the results of the application of the RISE model and to answer the mentioned questions, especially during these uncertain, chaotic, and turbulent times.","PeriodicalId":258932,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Logistics, Operations, and Management Science","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121179853","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, the leadership style is viewed as a key determinant of organizational effectiveness. In recent years, leadership trends are changing rapidly, and paradigm shifts in leadership are occurring all over the world. There has especially been a significant expansion of research on contemporary leadership styles. This chapter reviews the most popular and influential leadership styles currently used and present a comprehensive view of two leadership approaches. The purpose of this chapter is to investigate the theoretical perspective of the transformational and relational leadership styles among contemporary leadership approaches. It is expected that research results will be a source for both educational and business contexts.","PeriodicalId":258932,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Logistics, Operations, and Management Science","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124974617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed approach focuses on polytechnic universities as the firm understudy. Based on a statistical data from Mexican government, the five forces of Porter methodology is applied to found the clients, suppliers, new entrants, substitutes, and rivalry of the Polytechnic University of Puebla (PUP). In this scenario, the existing strengths are detected and the target of the firm to get a sustainable competitive advantage is defined. Finally, the strategies to break the barriers are proposed. The authors argue that by using those strategies the wedge between willing to pay of the clients and the opportunity costs of the suppliers can be improved. Additionally, they argue that the positioning (consolidation and reputation) of the PUP is achieved by applying the proposed strategies.","PeriodicalId":258932,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Logistics, Operations, and Management Science","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125278359","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors use the available information from Bogota's Chamber of Commerce, where the companies are registered yearly. The dataset comprises the years 2017 to 2020 with almost 3 million registries. In this work, a deep analysis of the different features of the data is presented and explained. Next, four state-of-the-art machine learning models are trained for comparison: logistic regression (LR), extreme learning machine (ELM), random forest (RF), and extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), all with five-fold cross-validation and 50 steps in the randomized grid search. All methods showed excellent performance, with an average of 0.895 in the area under the curve (AUC), being the latter algorithm the best overall (0.97). These results are in agreement with the state-of-the-art values in the field and will be of paramount importance to assess companies' stability for Bogota's local economy.","PeriodicalId":258932,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Logistics, Operations, and Management Science","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127768113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some of the key findings were the following: 1) A total of 1,769 accidents have occurred in the period of analysis (2015-2020); the most critical years in terms of the frequency of accident occurrence have been 2016 (27%) and 2019 (21.2%), and as expected, the least critical year was 2020 (7.1%). 2) The most critical seasons of the year have been the following: spring (27.1%) and summer (26.5%); the less critical seasons were winter (23.2%) and autumn (23.1%). 3) The results also highlighted that accident occurrence decreases sharply at the weekends (15.8%). The main conclusion of the analysis is that 64% of accidents occurred during peak hours causing traffic congestion and negative effects on health and to the environment. More research is needed to incorporate data from 2014 to 2020 for the case of the other six existing BRT lines. Further, some relevant statistical significance tests on the data are needed.","PeriodicalId":258932,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Logistics, Operations, and Management Science","volume":"199 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133113289","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This sectorial growth has been paved with ever-increasing challenges linked to the problematique of business ethics, banking governance, and industry regulation. As global banking operations continue to grow, the need for a global business ethics re-evolution has become a matter of urgency. Within this historical context, the concept of Islamic business ethics and ethical banking has evolved equally capturing the attention of industry professionals and academic scholars. These developments have created a global niche market for Islamic banking, and it became clear that the success of Islamic bank global redeployment in a hyper-competitive banking environments should be embedded on the constant creation of new short-term competitive advantages so as to sustain sustainable competitive advantage.","PeriodicalId":258932,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Logistics, Operations, and Management Science","volume":"35 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133789048","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite the importance of negative behaviors that will be harmful for organizations' wellbeing, studies regarding these behaviors' predictors are interestingly limited. This chapter proposes that careerism, as one of negative employee orientations, may play a predictor role in assessing social loafing behaviors in light of social cognitive theory. Grounded in social exchange theory, the authors also propose that transformational leadership may have a reducing effect on the careerism-social loafing behaviors. While the positive effects of transformational leadership have been worked extensively in the extant literature, its effects in diminishing the negative organizational orientations and behaviors remain relatively rare. Hence, the proposed model would create new possible avenues for future research.","PeriodicalId":258932,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Logistics, Operations, and Management Science","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117133869","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors will focus on minimizing the risks of shortages in the first response supplies in a high flood probability zone in Peru. This research presents different scenarios and it analyzes the representative variables (demand, civil defense warehouses, points of distribution, distance and logistics resources), the humanitarian chain value, and the effective distribution of the aid in the affected areas with efficient operations that balance between the economic and operative resources in this recurrent logistical problem. The results present three crisis situations with a distribution plan and a base of a public policy to prevent a crisis.","PeriodicalId":258932,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Logistics, Operations, and Management Science","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117254700","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
