A study of a modern, state-of-the-art production monitoring system was performed at Ford Motor Company in order to ascertain the functionality currently offered by the system, as well as the user requirements coming from the system integrators. This paper discusses how the current system could benefit from a SoA-based framework, and how that framework could face the upcoming challenges faced by modern manufacturing. Furthermore, this paper reports on the strategies being used in order to improve energy efficiency in the production line, and the expected benefits that a functional SoA-based monitoring network would bring.","PeriodicalId":256385,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125308809","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In synchronous motors with surface mounted magnets the magnetic saliencies are present due to the saturation that the rotor flux produces in the stator. A model of these saliencies is proposed, based in a simple Magnetic Equivalent Circuit and considering the zero sequence components. The usual way to evaluate the saliencies is to inject an exploring voltage signal in the non-zero sequence components (i.e. αβ or dq components). Based on the model and experimental results, it will be shown that a higher position-dependent signal can be obtained by injecting the carrier in the zero sequence.","PeriodicalId":256385,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125321552","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed planner includes two heuristics to improve the performance and generates a set of collision-free paths, from which the one with the most similarity to a reference path given by a supervisor human operator is chosen. This reference can be given a priori when setting the start and goal positions, and be defined as the straight path between them. Simulations and experiments are made to evaluate the performance of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":256385,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121786905","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Besides the theoretical aspects, specific instrumentation and set-up designed for this work, several results directly registered from electrical vehicles (fuel cell and battery powered) are shown. To made easier the results evaluation, maximum-average charts, spectrograms and 3D figures are included. The experimental tests allow deducing that the temporary association between the driver activity and the related electromagnetic emissions from electrical vehicles is more relevant at low frequencies (150 KHz-30MHz).","PeriodicalId":256385,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132238332","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is found out that some even order harmonic elimination PWM method may cause the phase voltage to jump by two steps when asymmetrical uniform sampling technique is used. The condition when two-level voltage jump happens is found out. A new three level SVPWM containing no even order harmonics suitable for asymmetrical sampling is provided. Both simulation and experiment of the new SVPWM show that no two-level voltage jump happens and the even harmonics are eliminated.","PeriodicalId":256385,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133036762","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It consists of a single hardware-software unit automatically configured to execute the production test for a specific yacht among hundreds of possible different models, by downloading the specific sensor and subsystem configuration with a remote connection to the company yacht database. It is based on a PC provided with converters that transfer the various sensor data on a USB bus and a software package that receives the data, decodes the digital protocols (NMEA 0183, CAN J1939, TCP/IP, etc.) and provides a common interface for visualization, data storage and the computer-assisted semi-automatic realization of a formal test procedure. Performance data are uploaded to the remote database for immediate comparisons via the UMTS network. The yacht pitch and roll angles are measured by a custom wireless 2-axis inclinometer realized and integrated as a further sensor to be acquired. The monitoring system operates in the harsh environment of this nautical application and gives an unitary and synchronized view of the yacht status, otherwise not available, and a significant improvement in the yacht test phase, because the quality of the production is verified in a better, shorter and thus much cheaper and efficient way than before.","PeriodicalId":256385,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133377772","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many studies have put their focuses for removing the decaying DC components from fault currents. Generally, they need extra samples or phasors to obtain the parameters of the decaying DC component. In order to accelerate the filter response, this paper presents a new Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT)-based algorithm which does not need extra sample to remove the decaying DC component. To achieve this, the samples used for a traditional DFT computation are split to four groups. Both the Full-Cycle DFT (FCDFT) and the Half-Cycle DFT (HCDFT) -based computations have been developed in this paper. The proposed algorithm is evaluated by MATLAB/SIMULINK generated data to show its effectiveness.","PeriodicalId":256385,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology","volume":"93 6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115062936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
