Typically, transport processor design techniques utilize parallel and cascaded subfilters in order to meet required frequency specifications. Both attenuation and group delay responses are considered in the approximation in order to derive its wave digital realization by linear transformation. The code is being used as a basis for comparing various decoder implementations. Algorithms for efficient microprocessor implementations of a decoder are presented. The ability to implement time-critical steps in these algorithms is the basis for comparing the DSP56000 and the TMS320C25. The DSP56000's comparatively general-purpose architecture and certain unique features provide a higher bit rate decoder than can be implemented on the TMS320C25. Assembly language programs have been written and tested for performance and timing using IBM PC-based simulators of the processors. The model chosen for the description of the speech patterns on the voice lines was a three-state Markov chain model, yielding hyperexponentially distributed silence periods and exponentially distributed active periods. Although the computations involved in these methods were quite important (due to the use of matrices whose numbers of elements were growing as a function of the fourth power of the number of vice sources), they presented no technical difficulties and could be carried out for the desired sets of parameters. The method combines statistical pattern recognition (SPR) techniques with a knowledge-based expert system. The SPR module uses optimally selected voice parameters to form a purely statistical assessment of voice quality. Output includes a classification of the most likely opinion score, a prediction of mean opinion score, and the predicted opinion score frequencies. The implementation with three different technologies of the digital XOR phase detector, a crucial element in PLL clock recovery circuits, was investigated in detail. From MSPICE simulations, it was found that the GaAs-based phase detector has superior speed, reduced logic voltage levels, reduced noise margins, and higher power dissipation compared to the CMOS implementation. The ECL XOR circuit can operate at higher frequencies, but it also has reduced logic levels and the highest power dissipation compared to either the CMOS or GaAs XOR gate. The heuristic models are used to guide the design process and help reduce the number iterations required to make a design match its specifications. Hierarchical composition is used to propagate the performance measures of any abstraction level on a bottom-up basis. An example is given for the delay performance measure of MOS VLSI systems. The description algorithm generates a hierarchical structural description of shape automatically from a two-dimensional silhouette. The description is based on skeletons, which are very useful for describing nonrigid bodies such as animals. Moreover, this hierarchical description includes not only quantitative features at each resolution level, but also the relationship between hierarchical levels by describing a skeleton as a tree representation. The speech signal was low-pass filtered up to 4 kHz, sampled at 10 kHz, and pushed directly into the computer's memory (IBM PC/XT). Unvoiced segments were separated, and the pitch period was evaluated. For every voiced and unvoiced segment 12 LPC (linear predictive coding) coefficients were computed. These segments were used as states q/sub i/ in HMM and their LPC coefficients-an acoustic vector y/sub t/. On the basis of the training set a HMM for every word was generated. A modified Bayesian decision rule is proposed. As a result, if the decision rule is satisfied, the classification is simple; otherwise, the classification is given in the form of ordered couples. Expert system ideas are introduced into the error-control system. The throughput efficiency and the time delay of the proposed scheme are analyzed. Numerical results are provided for typical satellite communications cases.
