For each displacement axis, the system includes a long range traveling stage and a piezoelectric actuator for accurate positioning. Specific electronics is integrated according to metrological considerations, enhancing the repeatability performances. The aim of this work is to demonstrate that near-field microscopy at the scale of a chip is possible. We chose here to characterize highly integrated optical structures. For this purpose, the sample-holder is integrated into an Atomic Force Microscope in order to perform optical imaging. To demonstrate the overall performances, a millimeter scale optical images have been realized.","PeriodicalId":256285,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2009","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116570622","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These effects may be classified in four major groups. The well-known “skin”, “edge” and “end” effects due to non-uniform magnetic field can cause undesirable heating or overheat. The other effects, for example undesirable electromagnetic forces and electromagnetic emission, can influence on reliability and safety of induction system. Negative effects of EMF require special attention and investigation during the designing process and should be taken into account to obtain the satisfactory technical solution. Some results are presented to show the importance of studying and investigation to prevent negative effects for personnel and achieve the quality and high efficiency of technological process.","PeriodicalId":256285,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2009","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126019889","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These subjects are usually not adequately addressed in engineering degree programs. This paper describes our experience in teaching Control Theory as part of a robot design project. The disciplines like microprocessors, programming, digital and analogue electronics, mathematical modeling and simulation are also the elements of this course. Designing and building a small autonomous robot is also the motivating factor to learn mathematical control theory. The pass rate compared to the classical control theory courses increased from 60–70% to 85–95%.","PeriodicalId":256285,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2009","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123469144","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It evolved from the manual exchange to electromechanical automatic exchanges. It further evolved to analogue electronic exchanges and now to digital exchanges. Voice is very sensitive to delays and delay jitters, and that implies that its associated networks have to be connection oriented and therefore circuit switched. Today, voice services have even evolved from fixed to mobile services and could now be transported via connectionless networks. This paper reviews the various voice networks evolution. Nigeria is used as a case study. This paper also gives relevant evolutionary architectural design of some of the voice networks.","PeriodicalId":256285,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2009","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122344468","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the paper a hybrid analytical-FEM approach for full performance analysis of a PMSM is presented. At the beginning, the magnetic circuit theory as an essential approach and Finite Element Method (FEM) as a powerful numerical approach are employed for determination of the most important parameters and steady-state characteristics. After, the calculated results are implemented in a simulation approach based on a MATLAB/Simulink environment. The final results are the dynamic characteristics, developed for variety of the motor starting conditions. On the basis of the determined characteristics, the full performance analysis, including steady-state and transient operation of the studied motor is carried out.","PeriodicalId":256285,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2009","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116659480","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The amplifier has a novel feedback topology and load circuit that allows the designer to obtain high voltage gain and matching in the wide frequency range from 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz without cascading, current reuse technique and without an additional matching circuit. The key point of the amplifier is the source degeneration with resistive shunt series feedback and the load circuit based on combined parallel-series resonance circuit. The voltage gain of the amplifier is 11 dB, the matching is better than −10 dB, the noise figure lies between 3.2 and 4 dB in the whole frequency range. The value of CP1dB is −15 dB at the frequency near the amplitude response maximum 7.6 GHz. The amplifier consumes the power of 11.5 mW from the voltage supply 1.8 V. These characteristics are obtained by simulation of the amplifier using Virtuoso custom design platform, Cadence Design Systems, using 0.18 um CMOS parameters.","PeriodicalId":256285,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2009","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121344786","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

GA is the main optimizer of this algorithm, whereas PS and SQP are used to fine-tune the results obtained from the GA, thereby increasing solution confidence. To test the effectiveness of this approach it was applied to various test systems. Furthermore, the convergence characteristics and robustness of the proposed method have been explored through comparisons with results reported in literature. The outcome is very encouraging and suggests that the hybrid GA-PS-SQP algorithm is very effective in solving the power system economic load dispatch problem.","PeriodicalId":256285,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2009","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127168110","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
