The author concentrates on the authorial voice and the professional background of the writers, emphasizing in particular the photographic narrative of the place created by Maciej Skawiński. Kita","doi":"10.15290/bsl.2022.21.06","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.15290/bsl.2022.21.06","url":null,"abstract":"The following discussion concentrates on the shaping of film space, frame composition and what happens beyond the frame. The objectiveis to explore the aesthetics of the films, resulting primarily from the juxtaposition of photographic (in vivo) shots with moving film images. The non-standard composition of the frames in both films, based on shifting the centre to the edge of the frame (deframing) and the multiplication of additional frames (over-framing): windows, doors, doorframes, etc. resultin a significant play on space. Such creative use of the formal strategies and still (photographic) images forces the viewer to reflecton the destinyof the protagonists. In 1913, three years after Paulhan came back from Madagascar, where he had spent more than two years, one hundred and sixty popular hainteny merina (Malagasy) poems were published in Paris. It was the poetry of authority and struggle, named also the poetry of amorous dispute. In Gustave Flaubert’s Bouvard and Pécuchet also their spatial modalities have been subjected to fabularisation (a cabinet of curiosities, a library, a museum). By analyzing the selected architectural structures in the former USSR, the author shows that in the so-called post-communist colonial world, the power structures are unstable and resort to promoting their image through visual arts. He points out the proselytizing character of architectural projects, which are used to signify the attributes of power. By referring to ideology and postcolonial theory, the author demonstrates how both shape the national identity and order the relationship between power structures and society. Polska poezja awangardowa i postawangardowa między autonomią i zaangażowaniem [The Art Factor. Polish Avant-garde and Post-avant-garde Poetry Between Autonomy and Commitment]. The reviewed monograph is a discussion of examples of poetry of the historical avant–garde, neo-avant-garde and post-avant-garde and demonstrates the intertwining tendencies that liberate literature and engage it socially. According to the author of the review, Świeściak remains sensitive to both historical and ahistorical definitions of the avant-garde. He proves that the elegiac form, realised in Zagajewski’s work in many different ways, is not just an expression of the poet’s nostalgia for the past. By recalling past events, by remembering his deceased friends, and bymaintaining thememory of the victims of the Holocaust, Zagajewski makes the lyrical hero of his poems the guardian of the past. When in 1945 Andrzejewski was influenced by Marxist ideology, Zawieyski turned to religion and gained recognition as a Catholic writer. They belong the middle and young generation, and their texts, implicitly or explicitly, reflect on their own identity, experience of migration, influence of the “old” and “new” culture in the process of shaping the “transcultural” identity of protagonists. Both writers and characters in these literary texts create hybrid, multifaceted identities. They are anchored in the two cultures in which they participate. Thus, Polish-German migration literature acquires a special status: it is embedded both “between” and “in” two literatures and cultures simultaneously. The novel is set in the autumn of 1913 in the spa town of Gërbersdorf located in the Sudetes. The town, with a spahouse at its centre, is situated in a valley surrounded by forested hillsides. This location encloses the space, unlike the surrounding mountainous landscape. This contrast can be reflected by the oppositions of “civilisation–nature” and “masculine–feminine” (where the space of nature is feminine and “wild/primal”, while the world of the town is dominated by the masculine element). From the biographical perspective of thema in character, the androgynous Mieczyslaw Wojnicz, the vertical axisof the world plays an important role.
