Nowe ustanowienie Edwarda Stachury i Amereidy","authors":"Magdalena Barbaruk","doi":"10.15290/bsl.2021.19.06","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.15290/bsl.2021.19.06","url":null,"abstract":"This paper proposes a geopoetic interpretation of an unknown thread of Edward Stachura’s biography, related to the Polish writer’s stay in Paris, where he met, among others, the poets Michel Deguy and Edison Simons, participants of the expedition of the so-called traves´ıa de Amereida (1965). The starting point of the discussion is the analysis of a sentence from a Latin American poem Amereida (1967) “hoy soy todos los mendigos / a cuerpo de rey / con / stachura en cuarto menguante” [today I am all the beggars / with the body of a king / with / stachura in the last quarter]. The author interprets the surprising fact of finding “stachura” in a text written during a South American expedition, when a group of poets, architects, and sculptors led by Godofredo Iommi (Godo) explored the unknown “inner sea”. She also draws attention to the role of Juan Pablo Iommi Amunátegui, Godo’s son, in the last years of Stachura’s life. The following interpretation is inspired by the concept proposed by Vinciane Despret. She calls them the dead ”geographers” who establish other places, routes, and stories. It is part of the research on the manifestations of the complicated relations of the living and the dead.","PeriodicalId":253723,"journal":{"name":"Białostockie Studia Literaturoznawcze","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126176262","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The works deploy allegory in the construction of dystopian worlds inhabited by animals that rebel against humans. They share a number of motifs, characters and plot patterns, including, most importantly, the desire to overthrow man’s hegemony, which turns against the anthropomorphized heroes. The texts also differ significantly in the circumstances of their creation, the source of imaginative transfer, the symbolism and, finally, the purpose of the animal revolution. The article aims to trace the antecedence and mutual intersection of the works in question.","PeriodicalId":253723,"journal":{"name":"Białostockie Studia Literaturoznawcze","volume":"494 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129245915","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Łódź „retro” w kryminałach historycznych

The texts analyzed in the article are the novel Perkalowy dybuk [Percale dybbuk] by Konrad T. Lewandowski about the events of 1929, Tramwaj Tanfaniego [Tanfani’s tram] by Marcin Andrzejewski, a novel set in 1905, and Krzysztof Beśka’s trilogy Trzeci brzeg Styksu [The Third Shore of Styx] Pocztówka z Londynu [A Postcard from London] and Dolina popiołów [Valley of Ashes], novels set in the years 1892–1893. All the texts provide an point of departure for showing the image of Łódź at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and in the interwar period, as shaped in the contemporary popular literature. Władysław Reymont’s Ziemia obiecana [The Promised Land] seems to be a starting point for all authors, but in all texts this image borrowed from the fundamental “Łódź text” becomes complicated. It seems that eventually in this unconventional form, which historical crime fiction undoubtedly is, we find a reflection of contemporary dilemmas of the urban space. Its residents try to find their own identity in the meanders of memory and oblivion in the industrial-proletarian past of the “bad city”.","PeriodicalId":253723,"journal":{"name":"Białostockie Studia Literaturoznawcze","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123418780","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The author seeks to discover the interrelations between the discursive, rhetorical and literary modes of writing that shaped the early stages of modern science. In his opinion, empirical science does not establish its starting point only with its own new instruments, but it also deploys contemporary patterns of narrative fiction (for example, the modal frame of travel story) and rhetorical probability (also allegory). The power of this composite renders its own origin coherent.","PeriodicalId":253723,"journal":{"name":"Białostockie Studia Literaturoznawcze","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130433607","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The text attempts to point to the possible inquiries into this important problem of the dramaturgy of the 1920s and 1930s. The author concentrates on Adam Polewka himself and his political farse plays, especially the record of Igrce w Barbakanie, a performance prepared for the Cracow Days in 1938. She reads critically the introduction to the post-war edition of this text. In her opinion, this authorial commentary includes precious information about such stage forms of the interwar period as a farse play and circus.","PeriodicalId":253723,"journal":{"name":"Białostockie Studia Literaturoznawcze","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134412571","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Literackie dziedzictwo Wrocławia i Dolnego Śląska [Rescued Stories: Literary Heritage of Wrocław and Upper Silesia]. The author of the article presents the concept of “rescuing” the forgotten local history by the writers and scholars based in Wrocław and Upper Silesia. The region regains its cultural importance, and the literature becomes a tool in building regional identity. The article demonstrates that the book is not confined to performing a regional function but is also important in a number of ways. It concerns the heritage of Upper Silesia, which is part of the region and Central Europe. It also belongs to contemporary literary criticism and the recent socially engaged humanities.","PeriodicalId":253723,"journal":{"name":"Białostockie Studia Literaturoznawcze","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132630516","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The material for the study is based on The Letters of the Russian Travelling across Europe from 1802 to 1806 by Dmitry Gorikhvostov (parts 1–3, Moscow 1808). The interpretive context is the travel literature by Nikolay Karamzin (The Letters of the Russian Traveller, ed. 1801) and Gorikhvostov (The Notes of Russian Travelling across Europe from 1824 to 1827, 1831–1832). The Gorikhvostov’s work is discussed from three perspectives: 1. the purposes of the travel to France and the concept of the traveller; 2. the description of France (travel itinerary: Lille – Reims – Paris – Fontainebleau – Ermenonville etc.: museums, artworks, architecture, places connected with J. J. Rousseau, nature; a short story of the French literature); 3. the traveller’s attitude to France.","PeriodicalId":253723,"journal":{"name":"Białostockie Studia Literaturoznawcze","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127513031","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous interpretative proposals (Schneider, Sinko, Kubacki, Stefanowska) have clarified much, but have not met with full acceptance. The new critical edition of Collected Works of the author of Irydion, reproduces the errors of previous scholars in explaining this exclamation. The new reading introduces the context of – probably known to Krasiński – Gotthilf Heinrich Schubert’s reflections on the bees from Symbolik des Traumes. The German philosopher believed that bees – the depositories of the memory of the “golden age of harmony and concord” – were the revelatorsof the “gospel of the new law”, and that the Latin root of these insects contains the hope of “burying” the present order. The final section of thearticle shows how Iridion manipulates these imaginaries – in Schubert’s view, characteristic of Christian communities – in order to persuade Simeonof Corinth and his chiliastic supporters to participate in a revolution of revenge against Rome.","PeriodicalId":253723,"journal":{"name":"Białostockie Studia Literaturoznawcze","volume":"19 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130921017","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
