Learning-based models for object detection are not suitable due to the high rate of missed detections and false positives. In this work, we study two different alternatives to this approach. The first algorithm is based on Occupancy Grid detections which employs a rectangular measurement model in the tracking recursion. It is developed using the Global Nearest Neighbour (GNN) association solver and Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) estimator. A high-level fusion of the Lidar detections and Radar detections is performed. The second algorithm is developed using Extended Object Tracking (EOT) recursion, which skips the detection step entirely and utilizes fused representation of Lidar measurement points and Radar detections. It is based on Gaussian Mixture Probability Hypothesis Density (GM-PHD) filter and uses a spline measurement model. A comparative study of these algorithms with the Point Object Tracking (POT) algorithm developed with a learning-based Lidar detector is shown. The comparative study and the algorithm validation are done on the experimental data collected at the Monza Eni Circuit. The need for high bandwidth and flexible solutions means that the currently used MIL-STD-1553B is no longer sufficient, as it only provides a bus solution with limited bandwidth (1 Mbps). In this work, a new Ethernet-based launch vehicle network is proposed that increases bandwidth availability to at least 100 Mbps and supports real-time requirements for Guide, Navigation and Control and Telemetry messages. Coexistence of these two traffic types on the same network infrastructure is guaranteed by an ad hoc heuristic scheduling algorithm, which takes into account the different Quality of Service requirements of the two different traffic classes. The performance of the network solution is evaluated through a tailor-made software simulator, which shows that the scheduling algorithm proposed in this work, distinguishing between two traffic types, can lead to a performance gain up to 50% of bandwidth with respect to a precedent proposal in which differentiated real time services are not supported.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117030347","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Transmission System Operators (TSOs) have to manage relevant uncertainties in long-term planning studies by the means of new approaches able to identify the power system needs in future energy scenarios. In view of the above, the Italian TSO developed a novel methodology to assess the target capacity that evaluates the additional cost-effective transfer capacity between internal bidding zones and at borders of the Italian power system in different planning scenarios. The aim of this paper is to present the results obtained from the application of this methodology to the Italian power system in two contrasting energy scenarios for 2030 horizon. Furthermore, the impact of some input data and other significant parameters variation, is assessed in sensitivity analysis performed by the means of market simulations.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117229368","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Energy flows are increasing in city distribution networks, and Distribution Systems Operators (DSOs) are constantly looking for new solutions to meet customer demands. Local flexibility services based on Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), including Electric Vehicles (EVs) have emerged as a possible solution in recent years. The paper presents a study focused on the EVs charging hub of Unareti SpA, the DSO of the city of Milan. The aim of this study was to determine the hub’s possible role and contribution to the Demand Response (DR) services of the elctricity network. The impact of the charging load, the potential services and a possible energy optimization are evaluated and discussed in detail, based on real data measured during two summer months.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"53 10","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120860357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Elements of overhead power lines are towers, insulator chains, bare conductors and accessories. They are designed according to the rated values of current, voltage and temperature, in order to satisfy an expected life, which is typically estimated in 50 years. As a consequence of the stresses determined by the operating conditions and the environment external agents, all the elements of the power lines are subject to ageing. Degradation mechanisms reduce power line useful life time, thus producing conditions for fault occurrences. Therefore, actually, models for assessing ageing and residual life of power line elements are topics of great interest. In this paper, an Health Index (HI) procedure for power conductors is proposed. The procedure assesses the mechanical degradation mechanisms acting on the energy carrier as a function of internal and external stress factors. Basing on the IEC Standards, a strength-stress model is formulated. Numerical simulations give evidence to the HI curves obtained as result of the proposed ageing model.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121439233","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since effective power system restoration procedures play a key role in the assessment of the electrical network resilience and safety, it becomes crucial to deeply understand all the phenomena which could arise from black start mock drills. In fact, the simulations presented in this work give useful insights on the performances of the chosen restoration path and on the possible contingencies during the restoration process. In particular, this paper focuses on a resonant phenomenon which could occur after the de-energization of some elements of the restoration path. Such phenomenon is described and investigated in detail in the paper by analysing electromagnetic simulations.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120959688","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The trend is showing how power electronics converters are becoming increasingly important for the electrical energy transmission and distribution. In this framework, Smart Transformers (ST) can be adopted as interface between medium- and low-voltage grids, with the benefits of additional controllability and services. The dc-dc stage of ST provides the galvanic isolation and availability of DC links of MVDC and LVDC sides. This paper deals with the stability analysis of the cascaded connection case containing the dc-dc converter in ST and the one at the LVDC side, where the dual-active-bridge converters are selected as the dc-dc converters for investigation. The results of the impedance-based analysis show how the system stability can be challenged by the tuning of the voltage controllers.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130806101","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose a newly developed integrated decision-making support in piecewise-objective linear programming that can be used to solve discounted supplier selection and production planning problems. Furthermore, the proposed model solves these two problems in an integrated manner, i.e., the optimal decision optimizes both problems and their interdependent raw material flows. The results of computational simulations demonstrated that the proposed model solved the randomly generated problem and is therefore applicable to solving problems in manufacturing industries.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115056058","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article presents a methodology for a cost-benefit analysis of the battery subsystem for IoT devices. In particular, it analyzes the costs/service time tradeoff of two primary (i.e., non-rechargeable) batteries of different chemistries: the Energizer E91 alkaline cell (zinc-manganese dioxide, Zn/MnO2) and the Energizer L91 lithium cell (lithium/iron disulfide, Li/FeS2). Although the latter shows a high and very stable performance in terms of total capacity, at different constant and pulse discharge currents, the former shows a significant capacity recovery during the rest times between consecutive pulses. Consequently, the total service time of the E91 differs for different continuous and pulse currents. Results show that the overall cost of a specific choice of a battery needs to be assessed by considering its service time for a given application domain.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123242544","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

So far, offshore wind provided a small fraction of global electricity demand, but it is set to expand strongly over the next two decade. Turbines are growing in size and in terms of the power capacity they can provide, which in turn is delivering major performance and cost improvements for offshore wind farms. The growth of offshore wind projects poses numerous technical and operational challenges to Transmission System Operators (TSOs). One of those issues concerns fact that the floating technology is specifically applied in deep seabed, such as the Mediterranean Sea. And for this reason, over the last two years an unprecedented volume of offshore connection requests is affecting Southern Italian regions, requiring extensive planning studies in order to provide coordinated, secure and cost-effective connection solutions. Present paper describes the connection schemes adopted by Terna to meet the challenges of the future Italian power system, to facilitate larger amount of variable renewable generation while providing a secure, cost effective and reliable electrical power supply. A representative case study on the connection of a high share of RES to a regional power system with a weak link to the main transmission grid is assessed.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128773846","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
