After recalling the basic steps to perform a forecasting analysis, this paper reports the preliminary results obtained within the framework of the Italian ComER project, that aims to develop methods and tools for management and control of renewable ECs. Day-ahead forecast is applied to photovoltaic (PV) systems, residential end-users, and a public building. For each user, firstly an accurate preliminary analysis of public and private datasets of the target variables is performed. Then, forecasting methods based on persistence, multiple linear regression (MLR) and autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) models have been implemented. Finally, results are compared to identify the more accurate forecasting method for each user belonging to the EC.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114544396","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using robots to help or substitute human workers presents numerous advantages. Many tasks, like field monitoring and harvesting, are relatively simple but time-consuming. Instead, robots can perform these tasks with high precision and without interruptions, guaranteeing a continuous analysis of the field and a constant stream of information delivered to the farmers. The availability of such capillary information can be exploited to increase the efficiency of the soil and decrease the need for pesticides. The development of a robust platform for autonomous field navigation and monitoring is the first step toward these goals. We propose a pipeline to control a small robot in a crop field without the need for expensive sensors, such as RTK-GPS or 3D lidars. Additionally, we present an algorithm for the detection and mapping of weeds and undesired objects such as litter, proving the capability of the system to autonomously monitor the state of the field while traversing it.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126609380","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The progressive decarbonisation with decommissioning of synchronous generation units, in the face of a massive penetration from Renewable Energy Sources (RES), requires new challenges for global Transmission System Operators (TSOs). Main issues are related to a sharply decreasing inertia, lowering of short-circuit levels, reduction of voltage regulation and reactive power systems, with impact on system stability and service quality. New Voltage Sourced Converters HVDC Systems (HVDC VSC) represent an outstanding tool to drive the transformation of the electrical power system. In this paper, the feasibility of interconnecting HVDC LCC and VSC technology systems is investigated. The integration of an HVDC LCC point-to-point system in a multi-terminal network with some conversion substations in VSC technology is analysed through dynamic simulations in the MATLAB/Simulink environment. The results show how the jointly operation of the two technologies seems completely feasible in terms of control coordination, enabling the integration of large amounts RES generation in the national transmission grid adopting multi-terminal DC networks.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"99 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127521592","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The changing of the generation mix and growing demand for carbon-free electricity will require drastic and challenging changes in the infrastructure and topology of the electricity system. Today there is a substantial \"asynchrony\" between the faster Renewable Energy Sources (RES) transmission grid connection requests and the related permitting process with respect to the authorization and construction procedures of the grid reinforcements. The projects envisaged in the Terna’s NDP 2021 are adequate to contain overgeneration by renewable generation. However, considering the actual development of RES and their territorial distribution as well as the actual development of storage systems (and their regulation), new grid reinforcements that are not yet planned may also be required. Thus, among different alternatives, an HVDC overlay concept has been evaluated as suitable cost-competitive solution for complete decarbonization, a better renewables and territory exploitation and growing electrical demand, through its Net Transfer Capacity increase between bidding zones. Rather than building new AC OHL, the described development strategy contemplates to increase the transmission capacity of existing corridors minimizing local opposition and regulatory obstacles through the DC conversion and multiterminal type projects. Given the strong rise of EU electricity prices, begun during the second half of 2021, the DC layer concept might represent a solution to faster RES integration.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131338347","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this scenario, power system inertia is rapidly decreasing and extremely variable, pushing system operators to develop reliable tools enabling online inertia estimation. To effectively address this challenge, system operators could develop a mirrored copy of the system, called Digital Twin, which allows performing advanced online analyses aimed at studying the dynamic behavior of the grid. To outline the potential role of this emerging computing paradigm in the context of power system dynamics, this paper analyzes the performance of adaptive data-driven models in online grid parameter estimation. A two-area model is considered, where the experimental results showed the effectiveness of the analyzed methods in reliably reproducing the frequency evolution under different operation scenarios.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126464575","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As part of this research, we focus on issues related to fire risk in covered parking lots due to the case of charging electric vehicles. The article proposes to analyze the case of a generic covered parking lot, the dimensions of which were derived by considering an average among the dimensions of some standard parking lots. The analysis was conducted with computational fluid dynamics software, OZone, developed in collaboration by the University of Liege with Arcelor Mittal, which allows calculation of the thermal actions generated by a given fire and the evolution of the temperature field in structural steel elements.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134534305","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bifacial solar cells simultaneously collect incident solar radiation from the sun on the front side and the albedo radiation from the ground on the back side. To reach its full potential, an accurate understanding of the physical characteristics of BPV is required. To this purpose, the model presented in this work has been developed to evaluate the performance of bifacial PV systems ranging from laboratory scale to large farms. The model takes into account the three-dimensional geometry of the whole PV system to accurately evaluate the irradiance impinging on the rear side of each module, which depends on its position within the system. The model has been validated by comparison with experimental data of module temperature, short-circuit current, open-circuit voltage and energy yield of bifacial and monofacial mini-modules. Through this comparison with the outdoor measurements, it has been possible to optimize the ground clearance and tilt angle of a laboratory scale PV system. Moreover, the model has been used to quantify the contribution of the perimeter effect, showing that 2D models tend to underestimate the energy yield as they do not consider that edge modules receive more reflected light on their back side compared to central modules.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132049991","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This model approach allows finding PV curve formulations without a large computational burden. Notwithstanding, such approximations bring to large inaccuracies for long transmission lines (especially insulated cables), for distribution ones (high r/x ratios) and for low power factor supply conditions. Starting from the Ossanna’s theorem, novel and original PV curve and the voltage collapse point formulations for any electrical line are obtained. Moreover, PV curve analytical formulation considering the generator reactive power limits is formulated. Eventually, numerical results on the real-world case studies illustrate the differences with the proposed formulation with the classical ones found in the technical literature.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123493738","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
