This integration proves to be quite beneficial and the errors of the INS are reduced greatly. In effect, a not very costly INS (one having considerable errors) can be integrated with a GPS system and the output can have the same, or even more, accuracy then a more costly INS. A strapped down inertial navigation system is considered and a single channel GPS receiver is integrated by using a Kalman filter. The mathematical treatment of the problem is presented.","PeriodicalId":253329,"journal":{"name":"7th International Multi Topic Conference, 2003. Specifically the X-ray emission in 5.0-9.0 keV and 13.0-25.0 keV energy range is studied by inserting a tungsten metallic disc at the copper tapered anode tip. Filtered pin diodes are used as time resolved X-ray detectors whereas a pinhole camera is employed for time integrated analysis. The X-ray flux from the focus region is observed measurable within the pressure range 0.25-3.5 mbar of hydrogen filling. The maximum emission in 4/spl pi/-geometry is estimated as 3.43 /spl plusmn/ 0.05 J and corresponding wall plug efficiency for X-ray generation is 0.15 %. The X-ray emission is found dominantly as a result of electron beam activity on the anode tip that is confirmed by the images recorded by the pinhole camera.","PeriodicalId":253329,"journal":{"name":"7th International Multi Topic Conference, 2003. We present an algorithm for unsupervised segmentation of images of hyperspectral human colon tissue cells into their constituent parts by exploiting the spatial relationship between these constituent parts. This is done by employing a modification of the conventional wavelet based texture analysis, on the projection of hyperspectral image data in the first principal component direction. The unknown non-linear plant is represented by an equivalent model consisting of a linear time-varying sub-model plus a non-linear neural-networks based learning sub-model. The proposed multiple-controller methodology provides the designer with a choice of using either a conventional PID self-tuning controller, a PID based pole-placement controller, or a newly proposed PID based pole-zero placement controller through the flick of a switch. Simulation results using a non-linear plant model demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed multiple-controller, with respect to tracking set-point changes with the desired speed of response, penalising excessive control action, and its application to non-minimum phase and unstable systems.","PeriodicalId":253329,"journal":{"name":"7th International Multi Topic Conference, 2003. This work details an empirical study of requirements problems as identified by eleven Australian software companies. Our analysis aims to provide RE practitioners with some insight into designing appropriate RE processes in order to achieve better results. This research was a two-fold process; firstly, a requirements process maturity was assessed and secondly, the types and number of problems faced by different practitioners during their software project was documented. The results indicate that there is no significant difference in problems faced by companies with mature and immature RE process. These findings suggest that a holistic approach is required in order to achieve quality software and organizations should not solely concentrate on improving requirement process. Through our empirical study we have also analysed problems identified by different groups of practitioners and found that there are more differences than similarities in the problems across practitioner groups.","PeriodicalId":253329,"journal":{"name":"7th International Multi Topic Conference, 2003. With improved close-form expressions presented in this paper, the overall situation both in terms of magnitude and phase has improved significantly by adding extrinsic base-to-collector capacitance. The difference in magnitude between measured and predicted using a modified Gummel-Poon model has reduced from 4 dB to less than 2 dB. The error between measure and calculated phase is no more than 8 degrees at any point whereas the expressions based on the intrinsic model greatly underestimated the phase for packaged devices","PeriodicalId":253329,"journal":{"name":"7th International Multi Topic Conference, 2003. Multiple simultaneous transmissions in the same frequency area usually result in garbled data making communication impossible or inefficient. The MAC (medium access control) protocol's function is to moderate access to the shared medium by defining rules that allow these devices to communicate with each other in an orderly and efficient manner. There is no clearly defined order for devices in ad hoc networks, and this fact raises the matter of hidden and exposed devices. In this study we analyze how much performance increase is found using MAC protocol CSMA extension named CSMA/CA implemented with RTS-CTS","PeriodicalId":253329,"journal":{"name":"7th International Multi Topic Conference, 2003. Birefringence of the transmission medium causes the signal to split into ordinary and extraordinary modes, and each mode possesses its unique polarization which affects the design of the receiving antenna. Simulation results for polarization factors and received signal amplitude in the case of a tripole receiving antenna are presented as a function of transmitting frequency, geographical position of the receiver and direction of arrival (DOA) of the signal passing through the HF channel. Modeling of the electric field intensity received by the tripole antenna in terms of the polarization of incoming signal and ground reflection coefficients is also presented. The effects of antenna structure, ground properties, DOA and transmission frequency on the complex radiation pattern of the receiving antenna are discussed.","PeriodicalId":253329,"journal":{"name":"7th International Multi Topic Conference, 2003. A normal microprocessor based radar signal processor eats a lot of processing power and time so we have proposed the implementation of a dynamically reconfigurable pulsed Doppler radar in a mixed system comprising a digital signal processor (DSP) and FPGA to perform linear frequency modulation, Gaussian noise filtering, downconversion, pulse compression (matched filtering) and pulsed Doppler processing. Allowing the users to modify range and delay, the reconfigurable processor on-chip helps DSP(s) exploit more of the parallelism found in digital signal processing applications, thus improving the processor's overall performance.","PeriodicalId":253329,"journal":{"name":"7th International Multi Topic Conference, 2003.
