By capturing and modelling the on-campus tutor knowledge into a virtual tutor for teaching and assessing practical skills of engineering distance learners. The research proposed and developed a knowledge based educational framework (KBEd). The experimental result conducted from the subject experts using the proposed prototype has demonstrated a great potential. As a result, PLC controllers can be integrated seamlessly in Industry 4.0 production environments using the service paradigm. The transmission time for the process data from the PLC to the IP network was determined for a prototype implementation. With the PLC as an I40 component, process data can be transferred directly from the controller to an IP network without additional delays. This allows engaging students more effectively and achieving better learning outcomes. However, even the most recent online laboratorial solutions lack in offering some valuable capabilities, such as the cooperative dimension, which promises to boost the students' involvement and their interactions with peers and teachers. According to the most recent guidelines from the scientific scenario as well as from the European Community, with the e-Science Infrastructure initiative, we propose in this paper a collaborative, hierarchical, multi-videoconferencing approach based on WebRTC that offers an optical microscope located at the biology faculty of our university as an online laboratory equipment. The proposed platform has been tested with students from a local high-school in their curricular biology activities, thus highlighting the feasibility of the proposed approach as well as its pedagogical effectiveness. Arduino family of boards having high popularity and large number of sold units featuring open access, reliability, robustness, standard connections and low prices, possesses large potential for implementation of autonomous remote measurement and control systems of various levels of complexity. As Arduino boards can function independently, they are complete small computer platforms that can perform various tasks requiring some kind of interaction with the outer world. Arduino boards can be used and programmed in various ways, and can be arranged in various combinations forming some typical implementation architectures that this paper discusses. Starting from basic and simple configurations, more advanced are gradually considered from the aspects of chosen way of programming and combining with other boards. Special attention is devoted to NodeJS as programming platform for Arduino boards and considerations of libraries used with Arduino boards like Johnny-Five, Galileo-io firmata equivalent, mraa library and other ways of program access to GPIO like Linux Sysfs.
