We have investigated the impact of spacers on the field emission properties of a large-area FED. Simulation results showed that spacers would change the electric potential distribution inside FEDs, and would further affect the display uniformity. In FEDs with spacers of a low relative dielectric constant, the enhanced display uniformity can be achieved.","PeriodicalId":249267,"journal":{"name":"IVESC 2012","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132243550","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The cathode is a critical component of the VED and L-3 ETI has developed in-house facilities for the research, development, manufacture, and test of the Space TWT cathode [1, 2]. In addition to cathodes used in VEDs, the Electric Propulsion Product Line at L-3 ETI uses hollow dispenser cathodes. In this area as well, L-3 ETI has invested resources in research and test. The performance of the M-coated dispenser cathode over time depends primarily on the diffusion of the M-coat layer and the depletion of barium. For the hollow cathode, the depletion of barium is considered the primary life-limiting factor. The depletion of barium is dominated by evaporation but the chemical reactions that occur inside the dispenser pellet can produce barium tungstates that effectively prevent the barium from migrating to the surface. This presentation examines the role of barium tungstate formation on the life of the cathode.","PeriodicalId":249267,"journal":{"name":"IVESC 2012","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122186004","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the triode structure and uniformity of field-emission is two key issues regarding the field-emission display. In this paper, a planar triode is discussed deeply. The structure of this planar triode is quite simple, and it can be fabricated cheaply with screen-printing method. In commercial LaB6 cathodes, the (100) crystalline plane is used as the emissive surface. Typical size of emitter is ~70 μm DIA.
