This is determined by the existing contradictions between continuously increasing volume of information required for people to maintain their competitiveness on the labour market and limited opportunities of traditional educational system to gain knowledge, abilities, skills and other competencies. To resolve this contradiction, educational programs should, above all, be consistent with the principles of multilevel, complementarity, handleability, continuity, integration and flexibility. In our view, significant prospects in relation to these principles and improvement of modern higher educational system are presented by the introduction and development of university e-learning environment. An idea of transcribing text is based on a theory of adaptive learning, which is thoroughly studied at the Department of Information and Communication Technologies. Researchers in this work combined the adaptive approach together with thinking styles introduced by Libor Činka and created four variants of texts of the chosen topics. Then those texts undergone the verification by the students from high school and university, who read them and evaluated them as well as they answered to a prepared set of testing questions. All received data was compared against the replies from the learning style questionnaires VARK and questionnaire by Šimíčková. The paper discovered some differences between the results of VARK and Šimíčková questionnaire, which proved to be slightly more reliable compared to both the results of test questions and the students’ own opinion. There were also differences between sensory variants of texts. As expected, the kinesthetic variant proved to be the less effective compared to the rest. It is impossible to comprehensively understand the functioning of natural systems only by knowledge of one subject (physics, chemistry, biology, etc.). Therefore the application of the cross-curricular approach in teaching of science subjects is required. Besides the scientific knowledge the understanding of science research methods is important, too. This can be obtained with the use of inquiry-based activities in science lessons that provide possibilities to show students how science works. The aim of this paper is to introduce the strategy for the use of cross-curricular approaches in inquiry-based activities in science education that was implemented within the Chain Reaction project. The project targeted 14- to 16-year-old students who in groups investigated an interdisciplinary research problem and then presented their findings and experiences at national or international events. Cosmic Web Site represents an example of the activity that encourages students to learn various topics of physics as well as to use their knowledge and skills obtained at computer science lessons. The project is aimed at developing inquiry skills of pupils and conceptual comprehension of the subject matter. In the first part we describe basic characteristics of inquiry-based education. In the second part we present two methodologies of teaching informatics. The first methodology is primarily focused on scientific research methods viable in school informatics. In the second one, we focus primarily on the content of school informatics. The methodologies were implemented and commented by teachers from partner grammar schools. At the end of both methodologies we summarize and analyze the results of inquiry-based education according to the presented methodologies. Our findings are supported by the results of pupils’ works, the results of concepTest and evaluation feedback from teachers. Making it flexible to students’ individual needs and preferences was the problem solved in various ways at Czech higher education institutions. In the paper two approaches to adapting the learning process to learner’s individual preferences are described comparing two different models of flexible hybrid learning. These models were exploited in educational practice and pedagogical experiments comparing learners’ knowledge in flexible and non-flexible learning were conducted. The results did not proved clearly visible differences in the two approaches, as neither numerous world-recognized researches did. The research sample consisted of 473 respondents by the method of questionnaire. The tool was available online and included 12 items requiring both open and multiple choice answers of one, four or more choices. The data were processed by the IBM SPSS statistics software. The results are displayed in the form of figures and described. They proved students were equipped with various types of both the latest and other devices. They exploit them to access to study materials, information reflecting their personal and professional interests. Within the research the use of social networks was also under the focus. It is therefore necessary to prepare the young generation of even at primary and secondary schools to solve problems from real life. Using the appropriate motivation, innovative methods and application of modern information and communication technologies into the teaching process, we can succeed. Constructions created using by dynamic geometry systems bring new opportunities to learning. The aim of this article is to introduce the possibility of using GeoGebra in graphics solution of system of linear inequalities and also in the geometric interpretation of solutions to word problems leading to the linear optimization. The article describes the observations of experimental teaching, where was used GeoGebra. The experimental teaching was conducted at a grammar school in Košice. The survey was conducted at the Faculty of Informatics and Management, University of Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic in the sample of 203 students of Applied Informatics, Information Management, Financial Management and Tourism&Management study programmes. Data were collected by two questionnaires: (1) Learning Combination Inventory by Johnston, which was exploited to detect learner preferences, and (2) Preference/Rejection of selected types of tests, which enabled learners to express their opinions on seven selected types of tests on 10-level Likert scale. The results clearly showed strong preference of questions and tasks pre-defined before the credit test or exam, both in the oral and written forms. Technical courses are usually not popular among pupils. Therefore, within the scope of the “Windows of Science Wide Open” project, we prepared a number of activities, which should encourage pupils’ interest in the technical courses and help develop their technical skills. During the academic year we held several workshops for primary and secondary school pupils. The workshops contained activities such as the programming of robotic kits, the use of electric microscope in education, the use of measuring systems and a computer for the measuring of quantities around us, or the use of modern technology when creating an audiovisual project. Pokorný","doi":"10.1515/ijicte-2016-0002","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1515/ijicte-2016-0002","url":null,"abstract":"Abstract Current pedagogical research has striven to create an adaptive computer educational system which would come closest to each student’s needs and skills, and would ensure the quickest and the most effective way of acquiring the necessary knowledge in the field concerned. Modern informational technologies are fundamental which make use of unconventional methods of artificial intelligence to mechanically and abstractedly formalize mental models of experienced educators, which leads to mechanical representation of their sophisticated teaching methods and procedures. The structure of the adaptive educational system includes fuzzy expert modules which formalize mental decision-making functions of an experienced educator.
