The transition was achieved by bonding a single metal trace fabricated on Rogers Ultralam 3850 Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) substrate to microstrip lines made on RO3003 substrates. 3D FEM simulations in Ansoft HFSS and measured data show that S21 for this transition is less than 1 dB over a wide range of frequencies from DC-9.5 GHz. The insertion loss per unit length remains below 0.5 dB/cm below approximately 10 GHz.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115206841","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ash was widely dispersed over Iceland and Europe, causing a global interruption of main air traffic and causing large economic losses. The quality of the airborne ash particle forecast in the atmosphere depends on realistic description of erupted ash dispersion and then on erupted fine ash mass rate. In this primary work, we present the validity of the use of microwave radar data to estimate mass flows rate MFR through an interesting extension of the Volcanic Ash Radar Retrieval (VARR), which uses the observables of C-band radar in Keflavik.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"2012 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121330015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The input and output diameter is 70mm and 400mm respectively, and the work frequency is 8.5GHz. The structure designed by the conventional method is 1300mm, and the bandwidth in which the preserve efficiency keeps beyond 90% ranges from 3.3GHz to 9GHz, and preserve efficiency is 97% at work frequency. To shorten the structure, a novel method is proposed. The length of the structure can be reduced to 800mm, with the sacrifices of bandwidth reduction (7.9GHz∼9.2GHz) and preserve efficiency reduction (90%) at work frequency. To improve ACC performance, we propose a new method for recognizing road environment by radar only sensor based ACC system. The LES (Lane Estimation System) is statistical method that estimates lane characteristic by radar object (position, velocity) and in-vehicle information (vehicle speed, path-radius). The LES convert this simple data to statistical data, such as lateral histogram and lane cluster. Using this statistical data, we can estimate road environment and improve ACC performance. To prove validation of our method, we apply LES to real ACC system. In Yong-Seo highway (Korea), we assessed accuracy of our system and summarized improvement detection performance.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116402524","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The transceiver, which is implemented in a Silicon-Germanium technology, simplifies the range measurements of targets by using two programmable 12-stage pseudo-random binary sequence (PRBS) generators to generate two PRBSs for the transmit and the LO signals with a time offset that can be configured very precisely in the transceiver. Implemented in a current-mode logic topology, the PRBS generators can be operated with a clock rate of up to 4.25 GHz to enable a range resolution of 3.5 cm. The 4.25-GHz input signal used as a clock for the PRBS generators is multiplied by a frequency multiplication factor of 18 to create a 76.5-GHz carrier, on which the PRBSs are modulated. The transceiver achieves a phase noise of -105.3 dBc/Hz at 1MHz offset frequency, a transmit output power of 6.2 dBm, a receive gain of 24 dB and an input-referred 1-dB compression point of -14 dBm. Radar measurements with the proposed transceiver demonstrate the well-functioning system.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"99 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126035605","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The measurement approach is based on the dual-ramp frequency-modulated continuous-wave prinicple, using identical sensor-nodes at the endpoints of the range of interest. Pseudo-range information is exchanged via a dedicated data-link between these stations. At the sensor-node a flexible high-performance signal processing and remote management engine is implemented. The system setup is controlled by a single host-PC, which is used as a man-machine interface for configuration of the remotely controlled measurement stations, system surveillance, and visualization of the measurement data. On-site measurements at distances up to 1000 m with an accuracy better than 2 cm confirm the performance of the ranging system. Furthermore the results are verified by simulation.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126735247","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As the targets in group are very close to each other, the traditional techniques are difficult to resolve them. In this paper, we study the problem of grouped target resolution in the angle dimension with array radar. We first establish an echo model of the array radar when there are two unresolved targets in one beam. Then we derive an improved monopulse method based on the maximum likelihood estimation principle, which realizes angle resolution based on a dual monopulse system. Finally, the performance of this method is evaluated by simulations in the cases of varying SNR, inter-target angle separation and intertarget phase/amplitude differences. The simulation results prove that the method performs very well in many aspects, including smaller estimation error and enhanced adaptation to inter-target amplitude difference.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130822708","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
