The TRS-4D is a multifunction radar for sea and air surveillance and target acquisition, operating in C-band. The radar is based on the latest Active Electronically Scanning Array (AESA) technology. Two variants of the radar are developed - a rotating version and a non-rotating version with four fixed array panels. The paper gives an overview over the different steps of the test trial program. During the radar trials a Matlab reference model of the processing algorithm was used. The benefit of the reference model during the development and test phase is emphasized.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130092959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The waveform design has the most important influence on the performance of MIMO radar, thus having been an active area of research. In this paper, the orthogonal signals generated from OFDM signals are proposed in the application of uniform linear array (ULA) MIMO radar. Matched filters are applied at the receiver part to separate the reflected echo signals and demonstrate the orthogonality feature of the proposed I-OFDM signals. Numerical simulation results are proposed to prove that the generated signal set is suitable for MIMO radar.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130161820","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For these purposes, special radar detection systems are often used. The presented solution employs the SIW based leaky wave antennas which enable detection of the threat missiles in an immediate vicinity of the protected vehicle. The missiles are detected by two tilted detection planes: one main detection plane (as described in [1]), and the other, operating ahead of the main plane. Since the missiles fly through two different planes set under two different angles, system triggering can be improved and more missile parameters can be measured. The sensor structure is relatively simple and occupies merely little space on the surface of the protected vehicle. The performed tests prove functionality of the developed solution.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"469 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116513939","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sensors have individual signal sources, that are used both for transmission and reception. In addition to the non-ideal properties of single sensors, the usage of different signal sources for transmission and reception in each path leads to uncorrelated phase noise. In this paper, its influence on target position estimation is investigated. An in-system measurement methodology is proposed, which allows to evaluate the effect isolated and to derive phase-noise performance requirements for component design. In the system setup, the signal sources of the radar sensors are represented by an arbitrary-waveform generator (AWG). By this means, both ideally coherent and perturbed sensor signals can be generated for measurements. Starting from the evaluation of phase-noise-free signals, the degradation in target position estimation performance under the influence of phase noise is evaluated in measurements and compared to simulation results.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132051101","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Optimal solutions for different values of the compression ratio are considered, evaluated and compared with each other. A proposed solution has the advantage of guaranteeing low range sidelobes (less than -50 dB below the peak for compression ratios greater than 256) while maintaining the transmitter to operate in saturation. The “chirp” waveforms, with either constant or non-constant amplitude, are also candidates for the build-up - by combination - of “semideterministic” signals for the use in noise and MIMO radar.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"65 33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127035139","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It allows, for example, to analyse the vertical structure of vegetation layers or other targets with significant penetration of the sensor's radiation (e.g., dry soil and ice layers). Due to its unique capabilties and potential, SAR tomography has gained significant attention during the last years and has become an established technique for analysis of all kinds of three-dimensional backscattering scenarios. For future space-borne SAR sensors operating in longer wavelength, like BIOMASS or TanDEM-L, it is planned to employ tomographic imaging modes on an operational basis. Since the tomographic resolution is achieved not in the vertical direction but perpendicular to the line of sight, the sensor's range resolution has significant influence on the capability of resolving horizontally layered structures, like for example forest scenarios. This paper reviews the different state-of-the-art signal processing methods for three-dimensional SAR imaging with respect to their performance in case of low image resolution, with focus on imaging parameters as to be expected for upcoming space-borne missions. The expected imaging capabilities are demonstrated using real air-borne data acquired by DLR's E-SAR sensor. Special attention is also paid to illustrating the potential of the techniques to operate with low numbers of input images and under conditions of temporal decorrelation.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114323034","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A microwave forward model describes the Normalized Radar Cross Section (NRCS) as composed by a surface contribution and a volumetric contribution and inversion techniques were used to derive the precipitation over land, particularly over bare soil. However, different surfaces may affect the SAR precipitation signature, so here, we present a sensitivity analysis to the surface effects for three different frequencies such as C-, X- and Ku-band using a two-layer precipitating cloud system composed by rain and snow. Particular attention is given to the effects of sea surface whose variability is strongly related to the surface winds. The main results show that as the frequency increases, the NRCS increases. Moreover, when the wind speed becomes higher, the SAR response due to precipitation is mainly influenced by the surface contribution so that the sensibility to precipitating cloud decreases. This behaviour can be ascribed to the increasing sea surface roughness.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114835058","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
