The UWB MIMO radar utilized a combination of two-way multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm and majority decision scheme. Numerical simulations were carried out to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme while detecting Weibull targets using UWB signals with different bandwidth. It was found that the estimation performance improved with increasing signal bandwidth.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128266341","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The MWR provides information for tropospheric path correction of SRAL measurements, and its data can also be used for determining surface emissivity and soil moisture over land, for surface energy budget investigations and ice characterization. The MWR is a dual frequency Noise Injection Radiometer working at K and Ka band (23.8 & 36.5 GHz) embarking a main reflector antenna and a dual frequency horn for autonomous calibration. This paper briefly presents the design and development of the MWR, and is especially focused on the on-ground calibration campaign of the radiometer.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122925325","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A successful detection scheme should take account of the first and second order statistics, maintain a constant false alarm rate and have a relatively simple processing scheme. Three detection scenarios based on the cell averaging constant false alarm rate (CA-CFAR) algorithm are investigated in this paper using the Ingara high grazing angle data. The first two apply the CA-CFAR algorithm in the time and frequency domains, while the third uses the output of an adaptive least squares filter applied to adaptively whiten the data.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122418819","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system transmits a continuously repeated signal. Hence the received signal contains a large contribution from direct signal and static clutter interference. The signal processing ensures that the micro-Doppler signatures are unaffected by these interferences, and explicit cancellation techniques are not needed. Both main and tail rotors can easily be identified as sharp “flashes” in the cross correlation function, and information such as rotor speeds and the number of blades of the rotors may be extracted and used in target classification.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126573729","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the search phase, the antenna beam rotates to illuminate the monitored area, and all returns exceeding a given threshold are immediately declared as detections. Then, a subset of ambiguous (namely, close enough but not exceeding the detection threshold) returns are revisited to take the final decision. The revisit phase introduces additional degrees of freedom, which can be exploited to improve the detection rate, defined as the average number of detections per minute generated by a target. Numerical examples are provided to assess the performance of the proposed scanning policy.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123256386","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three methods are proposed, consisting in replacing the elements that are responsible of the ambiguity peaks, by other elements that do not give rise to periodic components. Ideal 64-QAM symbols, zero power components, and random segments with mean power equal to the acquired signal power, are used for this purpose. The obtained results show that a significant reduction of the ambiguity peaks is obtained, but with an undesired reduction in detection capabilities, due to the decrement in the main peak to pedestal level ratio.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"167 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123288371","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We assumed the use of two 300-MHz class wideband channels in the 21.4 to 22.0-GHz band and devised an array-fed imaging reflector antenna (array-fed IRA) to supply enough power for a transponder with such a wide band. The array-fed IRA is an effective means of exploiting limited resources because of its ability to control radiation patterns; the 21-GHz band suffers from severe fading due to rain. To confirm the feasibility of the array-fed IRA system, we designed an engineering model of an array-fed IRA for a 21-GHz band broadcasting satellite. The engineering model has a feed array that consists of 32 horn antennas. To improve the accuracy of the antenna's arrangement, we combined the 32 horn antennas into one unit. To evaluate the characteristics of this unit type feed array, we fabricated and tested a 32-element horn antenna array.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115036108","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
