This holds true for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) which is nowadays a widely-employed technology for imaging at distance in diverse operating conditions. In this paper, we discuss a formulation for SAR image reconstruction that involves no approximations. A unique kernel function is produced for each pixel of the image. The proposed principle of the kernel formation allows using a direct integral transform from a measured polar domain to a Cartesian image domain; no additional processing is required for any measurement geometry or the size of the image. This approach provides a well-defined premise for the implementation of other essential techniques, related to e.g. using robust waveform and compensating unexpected motion, which are vital for high-quality SAR images in unideal operating conditions. We illustrate our approach with simulated and measured inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) experiments.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127348665","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An Ultra Wide Band antenna array combining as many of this photoswitches as antennas has the advantage to increase the radiation power on one hand and to offer the agility of the radiation beam on the other hand obtained by time delay of laser illumination. The increase of the peak power and the frequency band can be obtained by integrating the photoswitch in the antenna. An equivalent model of photoswitch can be created with the transient solver of CST Microwave Studio coupled within CST Design Studio. This article presents the integration of a photoswitch within the antenna and the improvement of radiation.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124927924","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this method a transmission line is designed as a slow-wave synthetic line by repeatedly disturbing either the signal or the return current by adding slots in the grounds over or under the line of interest. To verify the method we have designed and fabricated transmission lines with slots in groundplane and compared them with a typical coplanar strip line in the same process. Both types of transmission lines are having same width and length in same metal layer. However unlike the typical design, the slotted-ground transmission requires no additional metal layer. From the measurement results, the slotted transmission lines reached the targeted impedance of approximately 50 Ohm and shows same level of loss of 0.8 dB and cross coupling to a common microstrip line of −78 dB at 2 GHz as of the typical design.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115901109","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Developed for comparable 2D radar systems with a mechanically rotating reflector antenna, it was not necessary to regard update rate and plot quality in Blake's chart. To characterize the system's critical awareness, the inclusion of update rate is, however, of utmost importance. Performance indicators that are considered in this communication therefore contain update rate, resulting in a coverage rate metric. Plot quality is integrated in the coverage information rate metric, which relates to the system's situational awareness as well. It is concluded that Blake chart-only comparison is not sufficient to rank competing modern search radar systems based on different radar principles. Coverage information rate is elaborated for several radar principles, in chronological order starting with Blake's rotating 2D search radar and finalizing with a modern non-rotating four face fixed phased array 4D surveillance radar.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134185606","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Results of experiments carried out with very high resolution data acquired by the X-Band sensors of the latest generation have already shown the impressive capabilities of this technique being able to provide high densities of monitored point-clouds. In this work we focus on the application of this technology to COSMO/SKYMED data. The method used is based on the application of the Principal Component Analysis method that allows a simple and powerful implementation in SAR tomography with variable degree of multilooking, thus performing a tradeoff between spatial resolution and coverage.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132754242","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The relative motion of parts is characteristic for different classes of targets, e.g. the flapping motion of a bird's wings vs. the spinning of propeller blades. In the present study, the micro-Doppler signature is exploited to discriminate birds and small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Emphasis is on micro-Doppler features that can be extracted from spectrograms and cepstrograms, enabling the human eye or indeed automatic classification algorithms to make a quick distinction between man-made objects and bio-life. In addition, in case of man-made objects, it is desired to further characterize the type of mini-UAV to aid the threat assessment. Also this characterization is done on the basis of micro-Doppler features.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128891250","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
