Usually, they provide short-range through wall localization of human beings in 2-dimensional space (2D). However, according to security experts, person positioning not only in 2D but also in 3-dimensional space (3D) is needful. Following this demand, we have focused on through-wall localization problem of moving persons in 3D. In this paper, a new method of moving person localization in 3D based on a simple combination of target methods in 2D will be introduced. Its performance will be illustrated by the results of experiment in which a multistatic UWB radar using one transmitting and four receiving antennas is applied for through wall localization of person moving in 3D height-diverse indoor environment. The obtained results will confirm that the novel method introduced in this paper is capable to provide a good and efficient estimate of the target position.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132275603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically we investigate the possibility to detect and localize vessels beyond the territorial waters since this represents a valuable characteristic for border security applications. The results are reported for the extended data acquisition campaign carried out in Leghorn (Italy). The low carrier frequency of the exploited waveforms is experimentally shown to allow maritime target detection at a distance from the coast much greater than the normal line-of-sight horizon.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124075639","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to continuously evolving Euro NCAP regulations their presence will rapidly increase. Visual sensors, already capable of pedestrian classification, provide functional benefits because system responses can be better adapted to expected pedestrian's behavior. Nevertheless their performance will suffer under adverse environmental conditions like darkness, fog, rain or backlight. Even in such situations the performance of radar sensors is not significantly deteriorated. Enabling classification capability for radar-based systems will increase road safety further and will lower PCMS's overall costs. In this paper a multi-reflection-point pedestrian target model based on motion analysis is presented. Together with an appropriate sensor model, pedestrian radar signal responses can be provided for a wide range of relevant accident scenarios, without risk for the health of test persons. Besides determination of human classification features, the model provides identification of the limits in classical radar signal processing. Beyond these borderlines it offers the opportunity to evaluate parametric spectral analysis methods.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122362616","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Doppler sensors provide a contactless way of measuring speed, which recieved great interest in past decades and with recent technological improvement has become readily available for commercial purposes. One of the key problems for speed over ground measurement is the true speed estimation from the spread spectrum due to sensor beam width. In this paper, after a discussion of the basic principles of vehicle speed-over-ground, an alternative fast but effective Doppler estimation algorithm is used to estimate and compare the accuracy of speed estimation at various speeds for a 24 GHz radar and a 40 KHz acoustic experimental Doppler system. The results also show that radar system can always provide a reliable and accurate speed measurement. However the acoustic may not be capable of high speed measurement, depending on the accuracy required.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126115100","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed radar architecture uses a single mode-locked laser for optically generating and receiving the RF signals, taking advantage of the high bandwidth and flexibility provided by the photonic technologies to simultaneously generate and detect two signals in the S and X bands. The use of a single laser reduces system complexity and costs. Penetration depth is estimated from tomographic SAR acquisitions relative to ESA IceSAR 2012 campaign. In particular, an area in the ablation zone of South-West Greenland is investigated, retrieving the penetration depth with superresolution spectral techniques. Biasing due to the space-varying vertical resolution over the scene is accounted for. Data from opposite-side views are processed in order to obtain penetration maps of the area to be compared. Consistent penetration depth maps of about 20-30 m are obtained from both views, proving the validity of SAR tomography as an effective tool for mapping information about subsurface ice structure.","PeriodicalId":241445,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th European Radar Conference","volume":"148 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123738057","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
