Simonius","doi":"10.1063/1.34855","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1063/1.34855","url":null,"abstract":"The object of this talk is to review briefly tests of time reversal invariance (TRI) in low and intermediate energy physics and to discuss their significance for the understanding of the origins of time reversal violation (TRV), or CP violation observed up to now only in neutral K decay. The main emphasis of this analysis lies on non‐weak processes for which the conclusions are rather pessimistic: In spite of the fact that in nuclei some TRV tests have reached an impressive accuracy of better than 10−3 it is hard if not impossible to extract a significant restriction on a basic time reversal violating interaction from upper limits in this field. In the last section I shall come back to a recent TRI test in nuclear β‐decay for which prospects are not as bad.","PeriodicalId":240164,"journal":{"name":"Intersections Between Particles and Nuclear Physics","volume":"707 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132485065","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recent experimental results from the Brookhaven National Laboratory on the (κ−, π−) formation reaction and on (κ−, π− χ) coincidence experiments (χ=hypernuclear decay product) are reviewed. A discussion is given of features of the pion‐nucleon interaction in the free system and in nuclei. A proposed set of experiments related to eta production is described. Ideas are advanced for new studies of heavy meson production in nuclei, such as that involving rhos and omegas, in order to learn important features of the meson‐nucleon interaction.","PeriodicalId":240164,"journal":{"name":"Intersections Between Particles and Nuclear Physics","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133380397","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
