This study took place in five Atchan (Ébrié) villages in the municipality of Songon (Autonomous District of Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire). The survey was conducted among thirty-five individuals using a qualitative data collection technique. The study revealed that the issue of witchcraft can be dealt with in three ways: mistreatment, banishment, and religious approach. And yet the concept of witchcraft appears to take on a subjective character. The difficulty encountered on this issue relates to the availability of evidence and the causal link with alleged offenses. Despite its subjectivism, witchcraft remains a socio-cultural reality that causes many inconveniences to the accused and their families and the entire community. This situation challenges the public authorities and calls for solutions to take into account respect for human dignity.","PeriodicalId":238752,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116350729","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent decades, despite the fact that international relations continue to focus on issues of balancing military and economic power, they have been forced to simultaneously appreciate the importance of cultural and religious factors, which have acquired a transnational dimension that transcends the territorial boundaries of nation-states. Throughout history, culture has been used by organized societies to present themselves, to assert their power, but also to understand others. Culture has always been present on the foreign policy agenda of governments and has been active in defining relations between states since the two World Wars of the 20th century. At the same time, states became intensely concerned with the strategy of managing their national identity and shaping their image. This study attempts to highlight the role of the cultural element in state diplomacy and the role of cultural diplomacy in promoting mutual understanding between nations. Also, the aim of this study is to highlight the efforts of states to reshape their image abroad in order to access development and to have a stable and competitive position in the international environment. In this context, an analysis of the place of culture in the context of state diplomacy and the evolution of cultural diplomacy is presented. What are the specific characteristics of this new diplomatic discipline and what are its objectives? It also presents an analysis of the theory surrounding the formation of the \"image of the country\" and presents the elements that determine it and are ultimately a necessary condition for stimulating the country's competitiveness at the international level.","PeriodicalId":238752,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127959251","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After Kenya gained political independence in AD 1964, numerous Christian denominations have established church congregations in all parts of the country and the competition for congregation members is high. The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) and other mainline churches are experiencing declining congregations due to the entry of the Pentecostal churches but the earlier Pentecostal churches are also experiencing the same phenomenon due to the new denominations which are being established in all parts of the country. This paper examines how the church can retain its relevance and sustainability in the country by operationalizing the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) model to gain and retain its congregations. The model approaches sustainability by considering an organization’s social, economic, and environmental strategies. These are what made the early missionaries to penetrate the African market as they established schools, technical and agriculture training institutions and health centers. At their schools and churches, they taught about the need to live in a clean environment and set an example with their church compounds. This paper discusses how the TBL is operationalized in the ACK to resolve the declining phenomenon.","PeriodicalId":238752,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130358513","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Boko Haram has infiltrated this sub-region and is spreading terror in the main border areas. Gradually, a net depopulation due to the massive mobility of populations was noticed. This study focuses on the direct effects of the expansion of terrorism by Boko Haram on internally displaced peasants who are the main victims. It therefore relies on displaced people from the Mayo-Sava department in the Far North of Cameroon; in a context of belonging to a group in which an individual is identified by his own habits and customs. Thus, this research tries to solve the following hypothesis: the attacks perpetrated by Boko Haram in the border areas of Cameroon, lead to a loss of identity of the peasants who in reality are full victims of the crisis generated by Boko Haram. To verify this hypothesis, random surveys were carried out with a representative sample of 300 people, all displaced from the department. In addition, interviews with target persons were carried out. Thus, it appears that peasants confronted with Boko Haram are losing their identity. Uprooted from their origins in the quest for security, adapting to a new social living environment is still not favorable to them. This rupture represents this loss of identity.","PeriodicalId":238752,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130668520","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The affective subjectivity of the writers—Abdullah Hussein (The Weary Generations) and Bapsi Sidhwa (Cracking India)—discredits the mainstream Indian historiography, valorization of the independence struggle, and trivialization of partition issues. The notable affects highlighted in the novels are those of love, hatred, happiness, unhappiness, and rage. One positive affect in favor of one at the same time invites the opposite affect for the other. The paper concludes that the affects evoked in the abovementioned novels are ethically tilted to the notions of community and nationhood of the respective writers—an ideologically biased orientation that results in prose of demonization and an open declaration of evil on whom they consider the other.","PeriodicalId":238752,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130143516","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The newly founded early republics necessarily inherited relics from the previous era and were significantly affected by economic and social institutions that sculpted their personality and mannerisms. This paper reveals the connection between the subjectivity of the late Ottoman and early Turkish republics through four aspects: state traditions, bureaucracy, the role of the military, and political culture, with both innovative changes and continuities. These connections facilitate comprehension of the early republic's history, political actors, and notable events.","PeriodicalId":238752,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131367555","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Satyawatee and Gandharee are victimized by patriarchy and portrayed as submissive. But Draupadi resists against the victimization of women in the novel. In an identical way, some women have internalized sexism in Nepalese society while others have objected to this. Draupadi, the chief character of Cheerharan, acts as an adamant feminist to revolt against the treatment of Nepali women as the inferior sex. The theoretical tools taken to explore the assumed truth are the feminists’ ideologies developed by such radical feminists as Simone de Beauvoir and Virginia Woolf. The study demonstrates that Cheerharan is the depiction of the pathetic condition of the Nepalese women which has not changed significantly from the ancient time to the present time. The chief finding of the paper is that Satyawatee and Gandharee, like most of Nepali women, know the ill practices of men but can’t resist against them because they take the socialization process for granted; while Drupadi, like a bold modern Nepali woman, reacts against the ill-practices of males towards females. It is assumed that the researchers intending to explore Nepali literature from the feminist perspective can take the paper as a reference.","PeriodicalId":238752,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130834458","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, despite the invested efforts in defining and examining quality issues concerning online courses, there seems to be an equal growth in the challenges as well as the boundaries for defining the quality of online courses. According to a large body of literature, it appears that the most common instruments for gauging quality are course evaluations and surveys from the perspectives of instructors, learners, and administrators based on their perceptions, and experiences. In light of the rapidly changing needs of the new generation of “digital” learners, this study aims to redefine the quality of online courses from a comprehensive perspective that would expand the quality standards beyond pedagogical issues to include the hidden aspects of quality such as the instructional design, web design, facilitation and coaching, course presentation, learning experience, as well as service experiences. The study employs a mixed-method research design including, a descriptive-analytic methodology of both quantitative and qualitative approaches, where a triangulated set of data were collected from a diverse sample of Instructional designers, SMEs, and students enrolled in a fully online course at Sultan Qaboos University. The outcomes of this study could be used as a blueprint for designing online courses that respond to learners’ diverse needs.","PeriodicalId":238752,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116804031","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The volatile nature of exchange rate is generally perceived as having negative affect on international trade. However, the theoretical and empirical perspective are mixed on the nature of the relationship. This study aimed at examining analyzing the moderating effect of foreign exchange reserves on the relationship between foreign exchange rate volatility and international trade in Kenya. The study used error correction model in the analysis of the time series data for the study period which spanned between 1966-2018. Results show that controlling for inflation rate, interest rate and gross domestic product, foreign exchange reserves had a positive and statistically significant moderating effect at 5% significant level on the relationship between foreign exchange rate volatility and international trade with R2 of 0.9557. The study recommends maintaining enough stock of foreign exchange reserves to cushion the economy from adverse effects of exchange rate volatility. The findings of the study will provide relevant information in the formulation of and implementation of an effective monetary policy that will promote exchange rate stability and improve the country’s performance in international trade.","PeriodicalId":238752,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"137 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123139610","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
