Focusing on the dilemmas and challenges of tourism policy and engineering facing climate and cultural change, it examines and discusses the processes and conditions in which the sustainable winter sports transition operates and does not operate. Indeed, on the territorial and professional levels, both very creative dynamics and a logic of inertia and (mis)adaptations can be observed at the price of strong functional contradictions and strategic tensions. This chapter attempts to show that the challenge of this tension between creativity and inertia is the exploration and affirmation of new development models that are better suited to changing local and global contexts.","PeriodicalId":23772,"journal":{"name":"Winter tourism: trends and challenges","volume":"56 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85258074","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main aim of this chapter is to illustrate these influences in different development stages. The chapter frames CCSLs as innovations in tourism and then presents in more detail five developments of ski tourism as consequences of technological change. It identifies the perceptions of risks and challenges associated with changes in climate, the variables that influence perceptions of risk, and the behavioural intention of tourism stakeholders and recreation users as associated with climate change perceptions. Results from both qualitative (tourism stakeholder) and quantitative research (recreation users) approaches are integrated to provide a richer understanding of climate change risk perceptions to guide more effective sustainable tourism planning efforts in light of changing conditions in tourism destinations.","PeriodicalId":23772,"journal":{"name":"Winter tourism: trends and challenges","volume":"44 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73816461","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
