Abstract

Abstract This chapter explores whether mountain tourism destinations can be fully sustainable, or if sustainability within the destinations remains more of an idealized state. The study focused on the development of Whistler by exploring whether its sustainable practices could serve as a potential framework for future implementations of practices within other destinations. A survey was conducted among millennial tourists (n=82) and residents (n=41) to elaborate on their perspective towards sustainability, in relation to their awareness and their actual behaviour, within winter and summer mountain destinations with a focus on Whistler.
