A questionnaire was developed and a small sample of schools in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia was interviewed. The results show that snow sports are still very present in school sport although many schools might need more support, skilled teachers and accessible information.","PeriodicalId":23772,"journal":{"name":"Winter tourism: trends and challenges","volume":"4 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75191313","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This group consists of relatively young migrants who intend to live and work in Whistler but do not make it past 2 years and leave. This research explores the landed negotiation of this cohort, including their motivation for migration, their landed challenges, and the perceived differences in those who stay to work and those who leave. The value of this research is to shed light on an under-represented subgroup of lifestyle migrants who also represent an important labour cohort in resort communities where there is often labour instability.","PeriodicalId":23772,"journal":{"name":"Winter tourism: trends and challenges","volume":"5 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73074649","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Reports in the media are then drawn upon, including perspectives from representatives of the Whistler community and Vail Resorts' corporate managers, to trace reactions to the impact of Whistler Blackcomb's change in ownership. The discussion addresses the challenges of 'corporate-community relations' with a particular focus on the influence of new corporate culture on Whistler's long-standing record of excellent corporate-community engagement.","PeriodicalId":23772,"journal":{"name":"Winter tourism: trends and challenges","volume":"75 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74271851","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The chapter pieces together available data from many and somewhat disparate sources, in order to build up a description of how winter tourism currently stands in Hornafjörđur in relation to the situation at the national and regional levels in Iceland. Following this, it presents some thoughts on how winter tourism took root in the case study area, and whether or not this novel development there is likely to be sustained in the future.","PeriodicalId":23772,"journal":{"name":"Winter tourism: trends and challenges","volume":"48 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81400177","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
