It has significant improvement over all previous video compression standards. We provide an independent analysis of the coding performance improvement of H.264 over various other existing standards. Our test results shows that H.264 can achieve 4 dB PSNR gain over baseline H.263 and 3.7 dB PSNR gain over H.263+ for sequences of range of typical content for low and high latency applications.","PeriodicalId":237047,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Communications and Information Technology, 2004. Most of the existing maximally linear designs achieve maximal linearity at zero frequency, and relatively lower attention has been given to the designs accurate in mid and higher frequency bands. We present a simple design accurate for midband frequencies, by forcing the maximal linearity constraints at half of the Nyquist frequency. The design problem is formulated as the solution of a system of linear equations, obtained by imposing maximal linearity constraints to the general frequency response of the filter. Certain special characteristics of the determinant of the coefficients matrix of these equations are explored and used in derivation of the explicit formulas for the impulse response coefficients.","PeriodicalId":237047,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Communications and Information Technology, 2004. We would manage our work, switching among many threads, which is the course of task execution. To support it, PIM (personal information management) tools have been developed. These tools, however, take no account of an efficient flow of actions. The paper discusses a method to weave the threads harmoniously, in other words, to suggest an action schedule which is efficient to its user from a total view point. In this method, a context corresponds to each thread. It is regarded as a sequence of states brought by acts in the thread. The method reorganizes several fixed sequences of acts into a single efficient sequence, being aware of whole contexts. For the reorganization, the paper presents an elaborate modeling of contexts and actions.","PeriodicalId":237047,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Communications and Information Technology, 2004. In Motion JPEG2000, video data are compressed in frames according to JPEG2000 part1. In JPEG2000 part1 encoding, an input image is coded in the order of significant sub-bands, which are low-frequency bands. The proposed transmission system therefore assigns each sub-band data suitable weights according to their significance by using orthogonal multi-code CDMA so that bit errors are concentrated in the high-frequency sub-bands which are of little significance on image reconstruction. Concretely speaking, copies of significant sub-band data are made and the copied data are orthogonally multiplexed. The multiplexed data are averaged in the receiver so that the bit errors of significant sub-bands are reduced. On the other hand, the other sub-band data are not copied in order to increase transmission rates. Furthermore, audio data are transmitted with high quality by orthogonal multiplexing. The proposed system adaptively performs the above process for video and audio data. Moreover, these proposed systems are effective in the progressive order of LRCP (layer - resolution level - component - position) and of RLCP (resolution level - layer - component - position) on JPEG2000. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed system can improve image quality compared with the conventional transmission system under the same BER.","PeriodicalId":237047,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Communications and Information Technology, 2004. In this paper, we show that the concept of DA can be efficiently exploited in an analogue domain. Specifically, a switched-current (SI) FIR filter is realized based upon the concept of DA. In addition, it is revealed that the DA SI FIR filter offers extended maximum achievable resolution normally dictated by transistor matching. The technique also helps reduce silicon area and power requirements. Two examples of FIR filter design according to WCDMA and cdma2000 specifications are presented to demonstrate the feasibility of the novel technique. Simulation results are shown to confirm the circuit functions.","PeriodicalId":237047,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Communications and Information Technology, 2004. We employ previously calculated motion vectors and variable block size modes from neighboring blocks to select the best modes and motion vectors for the current macroblock. The scheme results in 40% to 70% improvement in the encoding time over a reference implementation without degradation in the subjective quality. The average SNR and the compression performance do not show variation from the reference codec implementation. Results based on a number of video sequences are presented that clearly demonstrate the benefit of the proposed motion estimation and block size mode selection algorithm. The proposed scheme has been shown to provide the least computational load with improvement in the encoding time. The reduction in memory requirements and calculations makes this scheme useful for VLSI implementation and realtime applications.","PeriodicalId":237047,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Communications and Information Technology, 2004. This work presents an analysis of inverse class frequency in centroid-based text categorization. There are two aims of this paper. The first one is to find appropriate functions of inverse class frequency. The other is to find the key factors for using inverse class frequency. The experimental results show that the key factors, which improve classification accuracy, are the numbers of few-class terms and most-class terms. When large numbers of few-class terms and most-class terms are obtained, the logarithmic function of inverse class frequency is the most effective when it is combined with term frequency. The square root of inverse class frequency incorporated into TFIDF, works well in the case when data sets include a small number of few-class terms and most-class terms. To increase the numbers of these effective terms, some methods are involved i.e. using higher gram models, small number of classes and large number of training sets.","PeriodicalId":237047,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Communications and Information Technology, 2004. This is motivated by recent research on the complex wavelet transform and its applications. It is expected that the two wavelet transformations of the same signal using a pair of orthogonal scaling filters will be able to capture different characteristics of the signal. This will open up new pathways for improving the performance of certain wavelet based signal processing techniques. We present design examples using both parameterization for orthogonal wavelets and numerical optimization. We also demonstrate an application of the orthogonal scaling filter pairs in signal denoising.","PeriodicalId":237047,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Communications and Information Technology, 2004. The circuits achieve their linearity by squaring the nonlinear transconductance of the balanced CMOS OTA. The proposed voltage-controlled current amplifier can be linearly tuned by DC voltage. The amplifier's nonlinearity is less than 1% for the voltage control (V/sub c/) range from -2V to 2V. The current-controlled current amplifier can also have a linearly tunable current gain by DC bias current over three decades (0.1-20) with an error less than 1.5%.
