We considered a private key as a unit quaternion which has an arbitrary quadruple of real numbers. The public key has three different components which are constructed using a quaternion rotation matrix (QRM) to generate a secure key, which significantly eliminates the risk of eavesdropping. Furthermore, the quaternion has the capability to provide a meditative encryption system for wireless image or voice transmissions. A computer-based simulation, conducted to scrutinize carefully the capability of QPK to ensure the highest level of security, is reported.","PeriodicalId":237047,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Communications and Information Technology, 2004. In fact, the performances of existing adaptive array algorithms are known to degrade substantially in the presence of even slight mismatches between the actual and presumed array responses to the desired signal. Similar types of degradation can take place when the signal array response is known precisely but the training sample size is small. On the basis of the recursive least squares (RLS) algorithm, we propose a novel approach to robust adaptive beamforming. Our robust RLS adaptive beamforming algorithm provides excellent robustness against signal steering vector mismatches and small training sample size, offers faster convergence rate, makes the mean output array SINR consistently close to the optimal one, and improves the unitary mismatch. Computer simulations demonstrate a visible performance gain of the proposed robust RLS algorithm.","PeriodicalId":237047,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Communications and Information Technology, 2004. In conventional methods, a laser scanner or stereo camera is often used as the sensor to reconstruct a 3D shape. However, they have large-scale systems and some problems are caused by them. We use only one active camera for shape reconstruction. Since an active camera takes time-series images, some points can be observed and the 3D position of the points estimated by extended Kalman filtering. Also, we consider the reconstruction of 3D geometry from the connection between each point, and plan good camera viewpoints. After estimating the 3D position of two selected points on the object and analyzing them, the active camera moves to the next viewpoint to obtain hidden information. By using these estimates of points from some planned viewpoints, 3D shape reconstruction is achieved. We apply the proposed approach to computer generated images and real world images, and we show that it is effective for shape reconstruction of an object.","PeriodicalId":237047,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Communications and Information Technology, 2004. The ridgelet transform is effective in representing line singularities; therefore, it is a powerful tool for coding. Moreover, it has the advantageous property of rotating a block easily by shifting coefficients in ridgelet domain. Nevertheless, the rotating target is not a rectangular block but a real object. For that reason, we divide a picture into semantic objects using the watershed segmentation, and each object is converted by the ridgelet transform; then, we can rotate each object easily. Predictive coding with this method is attempted. Simulations show that referencing object with rotation is very effective in prediction.","PeriodicalId":237047,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Communications and Information Technology, 2004. IEEE 802.11e MAC is based on both controlled and contention-based channel access mechanisms. The controlled channel access is based on the poll-and-response protocol. On the other hand, the contention-based channel access, called EDCA, is based on the carrier-sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA). This paper proposes an algorithm that enhances the QoS of the enhanced distributed channel access (EDCA) in 802.11e. The proposed algorithm, named enhanced distributed contention control (EDCC), estimates the congestion level of the channel without overheads and adapts it for deciding transmission of data. Simulation experiments show that the proposed algorithm increases the channel utilization ratio more than 30%, reduces collision rate more than 50%, and reduces voice drop rate about 8% and video drop rate about 75% in comparison with EDCA. Moreover, the complexity of the proposed algorithm remains similar to the EDCA, enabling the design of low-cost implementations.","PeriodicalId":237047,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Communications and Information Technology, 2004. However, in programming education today, teachers usually give same exercise problems to all students, yet often in the same order. Therefore, many students on a programming course suffer from the difference between their own levels of acquiring programming skills and the progress of the course. Some of them feel it difficult to catch up with the progress. On the other hand, students with a high aspiration toward learning are not always satisfied with the slowness of the progress. To solve this problem, the paper proposes a procedure to produce an appropriate exercise sequence, depending on the degree of understanding by the student. The exercise sequence would suit each student because its selection is based on information not only about a single student, but also about students learning in the same environment. We have developed a questionnaire for students of a C programming course. From the questionnaire results, it has been found that a student's attitude to learning is important information, as well as the degree of understanding, for selecting an appropriate exercise sequence.","PeriodicalId":237047,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Communications and Information Technology, 2004. We have proposed the cascaded structure of adaptive line enhancer (ALE) and noise reconstruction system (NRS). However, it has the problem that the quality of the enhanced speech signal is degraded. In order to solve this problem, a noise reduction system which is composed of two ALE and a noise reconstruction filter (NRF) is proposed. The two ALE are used to estimate the sinusoidal noise and the speech signal, respectively. In order to improve the quality of the enhanced speech, the NRF is used. We also propose a noise reduction system with feedback circuit to improve the quality of the enhanced speech more. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed system.","PeriodicalId":237047,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Communications and Information Technology, 2004. When it is used for lossless coding applications, the computational complexity and approximation error increase due to realization of the trivial butterflies by three lifting steps. Since the error appears as a \"noise floor\" and it limits the lossless coding efficiency, it is desirable to reduce not only the computational complexity but also the noise floor level as much as possible. This survey presents two schemes to realize an improved IntFFT in terms of the number of arithmetic operations and the level of the noise floor. The first scheme is based on employment of two/three lifting step schemes with combined rounding operations, and the second one is the multidimensional lifting (MDL) scheme. The improvement is shown by comparing the number of arithmetic operations and rounding operations to compute the IntFFT and also by comparing levels of the noise floor. In addition, an improvement in lossless coding efficiency due to the reduced noise floor can be predicted by observing the reduced estimated entropy of the IntFFT coefficients.","PeriodicalId":237047,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Communications and Information Technology, 2004.
