The diagnosis of schizophrenia requires a complete and detailed medical examination. Machine learning has also helped computer scientists to classify and diagnose schizophrenia using neuroimaging data. This research implored the use of computer aided diagnosis to classify neuroimaging data of schizophrenia. The dataset of 86 instances which include 40 schizophenia patients, 46 healthy patients and 32 variable. They were obtained from Kaggle MLSF 2014 classification challenge and augmented due to small sized using synthetic minority oversampling technique (SMOTE). This yielded a larger data set of 1806 instances. The augmented data set were classified using machine learning algorithms support vector machine, K-neareast neighbours, logistic regression, Naïve bayes, artificial neural network. 350 instances was used for the training (70%) and 150 instances was used for testing (30%), KNN and SVM correctly classified 162 as Schizophrenia patients and classified 188 as healthy control, Tree correctly classified 159 as schizophrenia, mis-classified 3 as schizophrenia, correctly classified 185 as healthy and mis-classified 3 as healthy control, Logistic Regression correctly classified 139 as schizophrenia, mis-classified 23 as schizophrenia, correctly classified 170 as healthy and mis-classified 18 as healthy control, Naive Bayes correctly classified 139 as schizophrenia, mis- classified 23 as schizophrenia, correctly classified 166 as healthy and mis-classified 22 as healthy control. ANN used 549instances, 60% for training, 20% for testing and 20% for validation got an accuracy of 100%, this makes it the best classification method.","PeriodicalId":236629,"journal":{"name":"Caleb International Journal of Development Studies","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127454212","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some are satisfied with viewing film on portable devices and on television. There is the need to know the cinema going members of the Lagos film audience as well as their film content preferences. Literature review dwelt on the theory, concept and context of Uses and Gratification. The theory thus becomes the underpinning force in this work. The Descriptive Survey research design was adopted, using structured questionnaires to elicit useful data from a sample population determined purposively. Items in the instrument were framed to garner information on key demographics of respondents, cinema going habits as well as their film content preferences. Collection of data was essentially primary and was directly undertaken by the investigator in the immediate pre-Covid 19 environment.Modern day digital cinema houses in Maryland, Ikeja, Surulere, Lagos Island and Victoria Island provided hubs for the clusters of respondents used in the study.Data was analyzed with the use of simple descriptive statistics, while presentation was in tables, frequencies and percentages. Results and findings would reveal that the cinema going film audience in Lagos comprise mainly young persons aged 18 to 40 who are students of tertiary institutions and employees in organizations around the city. These persons reside mostly on the Islands, Lagos Mainland and Ikeja, in that order. Furthermore, film content preferences range from Storyline, to Moral Lesson, to the quality of Acting, in that order. The research has succeeded in answering two burning questions as far as film viewing and cinema going in Lagos is concerned.","PeriodicalId":236629,"journal":{"name":"Caleb International Journal of Development Studies","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117033850","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The specific objectives of the study were to investigate effect of board independence on asset quality of deposit money banks in Nigeria, examine effect of board audit committee financial expertise on asset quality of deposit money banks in Nigeria and evaluate effect of board ownership concentration on asset quality of deposit money banks in Nigeria. The longitudinal research design was adopted in the study. Data were collected for the period 2012 to 2019 from financial statements of 14 listed deposit money banks and analyzed using the random effects regression after conducting descriptive statistics, Pearson correlations, heteroskedasticity and Hausman specification tests. Findings reveal that while board independence had significant effect on asset quality, board audit committee financial expertise and board ownership concentration had insignificant effects on asset quality of quoted deposit money banks in Nigeria for the period under study. It was recommended that deposit money banks equalize the number of executive and non-executive directors on their boards in order to increase the assets quality. Thus both executive and non-executive directors who have experience and are knowledgeable in accounting and finance in their boards to increase their assets quality, and encourage high block holding in their firms to enhance the assets quality.","PeriodicalId":236629,"journal":{"name":"Caleb International Journal of Development Studies","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134472877","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Corporate governance code essentially is set out help corporate organizations in addressing ownership and control to ensure sustainability of their system into foreseeable future. This code requires a special attention for business continuity among SMEs in Nigeria. The study adopted secondary data approach by reviewing the corporate governance for Nigeria, corporate governance code for SMEs in Dubai and some other relevant literature. The findings revealed that Nigeria and some West African countries have no separate corporate governance code that guides their SMEs for growth and sustainability. The number of failed SMEs should encourage regulators to set up an identifiable corporate governance code for this group. The study recommended that Nigeria should take a cue from Dubai by organizing a separate forum to sensitize SMEs on the need to adopt corporate governance code for the expansion of their business, access to credit, opportunity for foreign technical partnership and foreign investment, the regulators should device a monitoring system that checks the failure rate among the SMEs and provide training to family business owners on the need to embrace corporate governance code.","PeriodicalId":236629,"journal":{"name":"Caleb International Journal of Development Studies","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128943132","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For a multistory building, the placement of the stairs, escalators, and elevators frequently determines the floor design, further aiding in the building's optimization. The methodology for this research is the qualitative one using the observation and site survey of the selected buildings in the school. In order to accommodate the expanding student population and ensure that students with special needs may participate in the educational system, school designs must be developed from outward horizontal layouts to upward vertical structures. As a result, this study looked at the efficiency of vertical accessibility components in multi-story buildings at Caleb University, Imota Lagos, Nigeria in order to identify areas for improvement and contribute to ways of promoting social inclusion in educational settings. A digital camera and a study-developed observation guide were used. It is recommended that the management of Caleb University will respond positively by creating a more conducive vertical movements and ramps where necessary as pointed out by this research. Researchers, students, educators, policymakers, and building design professionals will find this study beneficial in resolving concerns related to universal design of the academic built environment, particularly in terms of ensuring adequate vertical movement elements in high-rise public buildings.","PeriodicalId":236629,"journal":{"name":"Caleb International Journal of Development Studies","volume":"207 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132099085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study explores the concepts, potential benefits and challenges of implementing eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) in Nigeria. The study uses both primary data and secondary data sources towards achieving its stated objectives. It reviews, existing literature in the context of developing countries, to analyze the prospects of XBRL adoption in Nigeria. Whereas interviews were conducted with stakeholders relevant to the process of XBRL adoption in Nigeria. Also, the study reports XBRL adoption effort in Nigeria. Findings indicate that there is a lack of awareness about XBRL among key stakeholders, including professional accountants. It was also found that there are inter-stakeholders’ rivalry which hampered the formation of XBRL Provisional Nigerian Jurisdiction thus the drive for the implementation of XBRL requires greater cooperation and collaboration of the major stakeholders, including government regulators, professional accountancy organizations, public entities, technology experts, educators, investors and other users of financial reports. The study concludes that XBRL could benefit stakeholders across the supply chain in corporate reporting, and there were options to address the challenges. It recommends that the authorities should consider persuasion for voluntary regulatory compliance with XBRL reporting system by large entities rather than mandatory compliance. The initiative for the establishment of XBRL Nigeria Provisional Jurisdiction should be accelerated and sustained towards fast XBRL adoption in Nigeria.","PeriodicalId":236629,"journal":{"name":"Caleb International Journal of Development Studies","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125606382","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study is therefore aimed at examining the conditions necessitating the emergence and persistence of the terrorist activities, and why the strategies applied have remained ineffective. The study employed the use of In-depth interview to elicit data from respondents while content analysis was used to analyze data gotten from the field. Findings from the study revealed that individualistic and uncooperative authorities hampered counter-terrorism activities by the government. Nigeria's counterterrorism operation was ill-defined, ad hoc, and reactive. The study therefore recommends that an active counterterrorism policy must be done with adequate planning, review mechanisms, distinct threat profile, resource allocation, and application as well as proper training of security personnel.","PeriodicalId":236629,"journal":{"name":"Caleb International Journal of Development Studies","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131896214","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nigeria is not an exception to these threats as it has, lately, been witnessing a handful of these palpable security challenges threatening its peaceful corporate existence and economic prosperity. This paper thus examined the dimensions of trans-border crimes and its socio-economic implications for Nigeria. The paper employed qualitative methodology, secondary data collection and descriptive method of analysis. The paper argues that global interconnectedness facilitates increase in trans-border crimes, especially in Nigeria where the unofficial/unmanned borders surpass the official/manned borders. Therefore, it is found that drug trafficking, arms trafficking, trafficking of persons, car smuggling and internet fraud are prevalent trans-border crimes in Nigeria. The socio-economic implications of trans-border crimes are mostly felt in fueling corruption, infiltrating businesses, hindering development and endangering lives and national security. Identifiable causes of increased trans-border crimes in Nigeria include porous borders, political corruption, and compromised security system. It is concluded that trans-border crimes pose serious national challenges that require multi track strategies and coordinated responses from the government, its agencies, transnational agencies, neighbouring governments and the citizens, to address. The paper, thus, recommended that to significantly minimize the menace of trans-border crimes in Nigeria, the government should adequately police the borders while the appropriate law enforcement officers must be well mobilized and equipped to so do.","PeriodicalId":236629,"journal":{"name":"Caleb International Journal of Development Studies","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126364636","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
