However, the inability of a firm to maintain acceptable level of financial stability threatens its future growth. A company’s inability to sustain robust solvency portends the firm’s sick state that impairs its organic growth rate. Firms’ improper utilization of their unique characteristics as their corporate strategic drivers has given rise to illiquidity causing existential threat among listed firms in Nigeria. This study examines the effect of firms’ characteristics on solvency of selected listed companies in Nigeria. The study adopted ex-post facto research design. The population of the study was 161 listed companies in Nigeria as at 31st December 2020 with a chosen sample size of 111 purposively determined. Secondary data extracted from the published audited financial statements covering a 10-year period (2011–2020) were used for the study. Descriptive and inferential (multiple regression) statistics were employed to analyze the data. Findings revealed that corporate strategic drivers had joint significant effects on short-term solvency and long-term solvency. The study concludes that corporate strategic drivers exert significant influence on solvency of listed firms in Nigeria. The study recommends that firms should continue to utilize their corporate strategic characteristics to drive their short-term and long-term solvency statuses. Survey research design was used and secondary data was sourced from world bank statistical bulletin based on tertiary education enrolment rate (TEER) vocational education enrolment rate (VEER), labour force participation rate (LFPR) and endogenous growth (EG). Descriptive analysis using panel covariance, cross-sectional dependence (CD) test, panel unit root tests as well as panel co-integration test were adopted to test the secondary data extracted. It was observed that there is low positive but significant impact of tertiary education enrolment rate (TEER) and vocational education enrolment rate (VEER), on endogenous growth (EG) while the impact of labour force participation rate (LFPR) on endogenous growth (EG) was negative. The study recommends that government should increase not just the amount of expenditure on education and health sector but also the percentage of its total expenditure accorded these sectors. To help actualize these objectives, the United Nations Security Council was an absolute necessity in order to make world peace a priority for all nations. However, studies show that a number of institutional issues visible in the UN system have hampered the mandate of the Security Council towards achieving world peace. This study, therefore, intends to critique the United Nations Security Council's efforts to promote international law-based global peace on this basis. The study employed the use of the in-depth interview to elicit data from respondents while content analysis was used to identify data gotten from the field. Findings from the study revealed that the United Nations Security Council has succeeded in the maintenance of global peace and security. The study adopted ex-post facto research design using secondary data derived from the audited financial statement of ten (10) companies from 2012-2021. The study concluded that there is a strong positive correlation between the board structure of listed firms in Nigeria and their financial stability particularly when performance is measured using tobin’s q or return on equity metrics. Board audit committee have the greatest positive effects while board equity interest has a detrimental but minor impact. The study recommended that nation’s producers of industrial goods should set up a review procedure that would support steadily increasing performance, ensuring that the board structure's architecture is flexible enough to withstand the text of time. Companies should build systems to regularly monitor the percentage of the board’s equity interest in relation to the total number of exiting firms share.","PeriodicalId":236629,"journal":{"name":"Caleb International Journal of Development Studies","volume":"12 9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125782152","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study employed time series secondary data On industrial sector output, foreign direct investment, trade openness (measured by trade percentage of gross domestic product), capital formation, and nominal exchange rate were obtained from the statistical bulletin of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN),2021 version. The data were analyzed using Ordinary Least Square, Auto Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model and ADF unit root test. The ADF test revealed that industrial sector output and trade openness are stationary at level I(0). However, foreign direct investment, exchange rate and capital formation are not stationary but have no unit root at first difference I (1) at 1%, 5% and 10% significant value. The ARDL results confirmed the existence of long run and short run relationship between foreign direct investment and industrial sector growth in Nigeria. The study concludes that FDI has a noticeable connection with industrial sector in the short run and long run. The study recommends that government should take proper steps to create enabling business forum for FDI and these steps should be institutionalized and free of adverse political influence. The government should also remove red-tapes in business registrations, terminating unfair quota systems, providing visas speedily on merit, among others. Similarly, effective policies should be implemented to stabilize the Naira exchange rate in relation to other major currencies to boost investors’ confidence to invest in the country.","PeriodicalId":236629,"journal":{"name":"Caleb International Journal of Development Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130611634","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The intention of the constitution is to forge cooperation between the state and local governments in managing efficiently local government allocations from Federation Account for the benefit of local people, but reports and agitation of the people on nature of operation of the account proves otherwise. For the purpose of contributing towards the reform of the operation of the account, the paper examines the nature of the operation of the account in some selected states, evaluates the effects of the operation on the local government impacts on rural development, and identifies ways of improving the operation of the account to achieve its objectives. In the process, descriptive analysis method was adopted in examining the available secondary data. However, the findings indicate that the state governments manipulate the account to the disadvantage of local governments. Also, most local governments are unable to contribute significantly to rural development activities because of paucity of funds. Therefore, the paper recommends way out to improve the operation of the account, instead of abolishing it, through effective budgeting; compliance, monitoring, and enforcement by Community Development Associations (CDAs); and prevention of mismanagement and diversion of funds by Anti-corruption agencies.","PeriodicalId":236629,"journal":{"name":"Caleb International Journal of Development Studies","volume":"92 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124662145","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
