The European policy framework is supposed to foster the implementation of environmentally benign product design, but largely addresses substance restrictions and energy efficiency in the use phase only. Resource consumption, usage of recycled plastics, bio-based materials and fewer substances of health and environmental concern, lifetime extension and design to facilitate recycling are only some of the design options, which enable additional significant environmental improvement potential. The paper explores the possibilities to incentivise these design features through policy measures.","PeriodicalId":236486,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Conference on Consumer Electronics -Berlin (ICCE-Berlin)","volume":"140 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116526222","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Telephony is no longer monopolized by telephones and mobile phones, but it starts to conquer the TV market as well. However, hands-free communication in the combination with environments in which TV receivers are typically used, introduces a lot of problems such as the existence of acoustic echo, presence of significant ambient noise that effects the decrease in signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Besides the acoustic difficulties, implementing such algorithm to an embedded platform introduces a number of new challenges. These problems and their proposed solutions are presented in this paper.","PeriodicalId":236486,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Conference on Consumer Electronics -Berlin (ICCE-Berlin)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134510650","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system proposes to use a color sequence as unique identification. The sequence will be properly encrypted along with user personal information in a structure called IDCKey and stored on a mobile device. The management and use of the IDCKeys is carried out by an application installed on the device that is the responsible for decrypting and displaying the color sequence. The sequence will be read and interpreted by real color sensor connected to any kind of object in a pervasive scenario. Data structure of IDCKeys, encryption type, processing and application of the system are described.","PeriodicalId":236486,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Conference on Consumer Electronics -Berlin (ICCE-Berlin)","volume":"308 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134505351","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For the purpose of quality assurance of mobile receivers for digital terrestrial television, temporally continous subjective quality scores shall be retrieved. One interesting option addressed in this paper is uninterrupted delivery of the content to the dynamically changing most suitable device in the user proximity. We present a protocol for switching an HTTP stream to an alternative device connected through a different network. Streams can either be fetched from or pushed to the alternative device. The protocol estimates the connectivity of the new streaming device and adapts accordingly the content delivery. We address the assurance of the continuity of experience by introducing a hash verification technique providing an efficient way to synchronize the play-out from the “new” device with the “old” device. Using this protocol we have implemented on a Linux computer and Android smartphone a specific scenario supporting a short range (Bluetooth) communication between the new and old device and delivery over WLAN and UMTS. The evaluation examples verify proper functionality of the protocol which - in this set-up -achieves an inaccuracy of play out synchronization in the range of −10 to 50 ms.","PeriodicalId":236486,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Conference on Consumer Electronics -Berlin (ICCE-Berlin)","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121118404","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In future, in-vehicle networks based on current technologies will reach their limits due to insufficient scalability and complexity. Real-time (RT) Ethernet is a new, scalable approach to reduce the complexity of these networks significantly. This paper demonstrates the architecture of a RT Ethernet prototype platform based on an ARM centred system-on-chip, which achieves timing and bandwidth characteristics of a typical future automotive application. It is based on an advanced interrupt driven architecture.","PeriodicalId":236486,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Conference on Consumer Electronics -Berlin (ICCE-Berlin)","volume":"475 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121522836","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed method consists of two main steps; true motion estimation and directionally adaptive motion compensated interpolation. In order to reliably estimate the motion vectors of occlusion regions without increasing the number of frames, forward and backward directed motion vectors are merged recursively. Following the motion estimation step, a motion compensated interpolation is done by determining the temporal interpolation source directions under an OBMC framework. The experimental results show that the proposed approach improves the frame rate up-conversion performance and reduce the occlusion related halo artifacts compared to the conventional approaches.","PeriodicalId":236486,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Conference on Consumer Electronics -Berlin (ICCE-Berlin)","volume":"24 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116779071","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed method provides a novel filtering method based on the degradation model of a fisheye lens. More specifically, we first present a space-variant image degradation model using generic Gaussian function with geometric distortion. We then apply the truncated constraint least squares (TCLS) filter for restoring the peripheral region of the image in the real-time, space-adaptive manner. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can enhance the peripheral region while keeping the high-quality center region.","PeriodicalId":236486,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Conference on Consumer Electronics -Berlin (ICCE-Berlin)","volume":"175 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122994077","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
