This review explores the influence of hormones on osteoporosis, with a focus on estrogen, glucocorticoids, vitamin D, parathyroid hormone, and thyroid hormones. Scientific evidence is analyzed to highlight hormonal mechanisms, therapeutic interventions, and their effects on bone health. The review examines hormonal therapies, including selective estrogen receptor modulators, and discusses the impact of glucocorticoids, essential for managing inflammation but known to significantly increase bone porosity. It underscores the importance of minimizing glucocorticoid use and implementing preventive measures such as calcium and vitamin D supplementation. Additionally, the review addresses the consequences of vitamin D deficiency, which disrupts calcium and phosphate metabolism, contributing to bone fragility. It also explores the regulatory roles of parathyroid and thyroid hormones in bone remodeling and calcium balance, with a Focus on their therapeutic applications in osteoporosis management. This review emphasizes the complex interplay between hormonal, genetic, and environmental factors, advocating for holistic and personalized treatment approaches. Future research should aim to bridge existing knowledge gaps regarding hormone-environment interactions and assess the long-term efficacy of therapies to optimize osteoporosis prevention and treatment strategies.
","PeriodicalId":23643,"journal":{"name":"Wiadomosci lekarskie","volume":"78 3","pages":"531-538"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144039102","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its specific structure allows it to fulfill multiple functions, including maintaining proper upright posture. Human posture reflects the coordinated interaction between the kinesthetic sense, muscular system, and nervous system. Various factors influence posture formation, including environmental conditions, lifestyle, physical activity, nutrition, and genetics. Data from Poland indicate that postural defects affect 30% to 60% of children and adolescents, with variations due to assessment methods. According to the Center for Health Information Systems, incorrect posture was diagnosed in 17.14% of children and adolescents aged 0-18 years, with 9.7% of spinal deformities identified in children aged 2-9 years. This study explores the etiological factors of spinal deformities, particularly scoliosis, including genetic predisposition, environmental influences, and hormonal factors such as vitamin D. This study is based on a literature review and analysis of research on postural defects, particularly scoliosis, focusing on prevalence, etiology, and risk factors. The methodology involves a systematic search of peer-reviewed articles, clinical studies, and epidemiological reports from databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, and Web of Science. Research suggests a possible correlation between scoliosis severity and vitamin D levels. Vitamin D is essential for bone mineralization and neuromuscular function, and deficiencies may contribute to reduced postural stability and increased spinal curvature. Some studies indicate a negative correlation between vitamin D levels and Cobb angle severity, though further research is needed.
","PeriodicalId":23643,"journal":{"name":"Wiadomosci lekarskie","volume":"78 3","pages":"609-614"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144035448","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Under general anesthesia, an acellular perforated dermal matrix from pigs, produced by the ≪Institute of Biomedical Technologies≫, was implanted into the anterior abdominal wall, between the aponeurosis and muscles. The quality of engraftment, degree of angiogenesis, condition of granulation tissue, and graft structure were assessed. The postoperative period was uncomplicated, with each pig receiving one intramuscular dose of ceftriaxone (1.0). Material was collected from two pigs on the 7th day, two more on the 14th day, and the final two on the 21st day after implantation. Pathomorphological analysis was carried out in the laboratory of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University. Sections of the implanted material, stained with hematoxylin-eosin, were evaluated for local inflammation reactivity, vascularization levels, and granulation tissue replacement.

Results: Results: The research findings revealed that, after 7 days of implantation, the acellular skin matrix \"sub lay\" led to infiltration caused by acute inflammation, accompanied by the formation of granulation tissue, numerous microcirculatory vessels, and collagen fibers. By day 14, the signs of inflammation had reduced, and there was an increase in fibroblasts and blood vessels. On day 21, the implantation process intensified, marked by a rise in collagen fibers and vascularization, along with a decrease in macrophages and lymphocytes. No signs of infection were observed.

Conclusion: Conclusions: Acellular dermal matrix after ≪sub lay≫ implantation causes acute inflammation with slow vascularization in the early period with a moderate increase up to 14 and 21 days. The implant acts as a base to support the migration of natural cells and subsequent replacement by granulation tissue, as a result of strengthening this area.
