The cause of mycoses depends on the cause and the accompanying risk factors. It is important to do culture and identification to determine the etiology and continue with antifungal sensitivity examination to determine the appropriate management. The method of treating a yeast infection depends on the type of infection, its severity and the part of the body that is infected. As various fungi cause infections, the antifungal drugs used are also very diverse. The study was conducted during 2020 consisting of  350 samples of various specimens with positive cultures of 116 (33.14%). The results of identification using Vitek 2®   automated system and slide culture obtained 19 species on fungus, consistinf of 99.14% yeast and  0.87% mold. The most yeast found were C. albicans 26.27%  and Aspergillus sp;  Rhizopus  0.86 %  respectively from mold. The pattern of sensitivity of yeast to several antifungals showed that Fluconazole was effective at 96.43%, followed Voriconazole and Amphothericin B 93.24% respectively. The next are Flucytocin, Micafungin and Caspofungin 91.66%,  86.18% and 85.74% respectively. This plant is known to grow in Europe before being cultivated in Sukabumi, Indonesia. Additionally, the specimen contains compounds with antioxidant functionalities, estimated to be useful in cell protection from oxidative stress. This property is attributed to the presence of alkamide compounds. In this research, Simplicia was extracted using 2 different methods, and those generated by DPPH yielded the best chicoric acid value and were further evaluated for antioxidant activities. The results showed the best results in samples isolated with maceration at 70℃ temperature, stirred for 1.5 hours, compared to those heated at 55℃. Consequently, the yield obtained using this technique was 23.24 grams which had 4.36% chicoric acid content and total phenol of 13.82%. The thick Echinacea purpurea extract demonstrated the best IC50 value of 92.08 µg/mL, which was better than the other samples. This research suggests a need to improve the extraction process as an attempt to achieve optimal results.","PeriodicalId":236342,"journal":{"name":"Indonesian Journal of Biotechnology and Biodiversity","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132676588","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bioethanol is produced through the alcoholic fermentation of sucrose or simple sugars. One of the potential source for bioethanol production that has not been studied is leaf litter. Various studies have shown that T. viride and Z. mobilis can be used for bioethanol production, but there has been no report on the production of bioethanol from leaf litter using a consortium of T. viride and Z. mobilis using the SSF method. This study aims to examine the effect of pretreatment and composition of the consortium of T. viride and Z. mobilis on the production of bioethanol from leaf litter. Leaf litter was dried and mashed, then pretreatment was carried out with 32% NH3 solution. The bioethanol production process using the SSF method uses a consortium of T. viride and Z. mobilis with a composition of 5%: 5%, 10%: 5%, 5%: 10% and 10%: 10% (w/v). SSF was carried out for 72 hours at a temperature of 35oC and pH 5. The bioethanol was purified by distillation and the ethanol content was tested with GCMS. Higher levels of bioethanol were found in leaf litter with pretreatment than without pretreatment. The highest ethanol content (0.6721%) was obtained from SSF with consortium composition of T. viride : Z. mobilis (10% : 10%) from leaf litter with pretreatment. Pretreatment and composition of the consortium T. viride and Z. mobilis affect the production of bioethanol from leaf litter.","PeriodicalId":236342,"journal":{"name":"Indonesian Journal of Biotechnology and Biodiversity","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123366281","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cassava is used as an alternative food crop to maintain world food security, because the tuber has a high carbohydrate value, is easy to plant and is able to support food diversification. Cassava in Indonesia already has several nationally superior varieties such as Adira 1 and Malang 6. The first stage of cassava breeding is knowing the characteristics of genes in these plants, one of which is HAP3. The purpose of this study was to characterize the HAP3 gene in cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) using a molecular approach with genomics and bioinformatics. The methods used were DNA isolation of cassava leaves of Adira 1 and Malang 6 varieties, amplification by PCR, analysis of PCR results, and data sequencing. The results showed that the HAP3 gene in cassava varieties Malang 6 and Adira 1 had 100% homology with cultivar AM560-2 in nucleotide and amino acid sequences. HAP3 cassava varieties Malang 6 and Adira 1 have the closest relationship with Hevea brasiliensis plants with a homology value of 90.91% and Ricinus communis 83.33% based on amino acid sequences. The size of HAP3 on cassava varieties Adira 1 and Malang 6 was 546 bp.","PeriodicalId":236342,"journal":{"name":"Indonesian Journal of Biotechnology and Biodiversity","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129243022","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Even though vaccination has shown rapid progress, another way of treatment and prevention is still very much needed, considering the massive spread of the virus. The severity of the symptoms, the time onset of the symptoms to death and death rate may vary, affected by the patient’s age, immune condition and comorbidities, such as hypertension and diabetes. This study was designed to identify the potential binding activity of twenty compounds from marine algae against SARS-CoV-2 main protease and human maltase-glucoamylase, a receptor related to diabetes, using in silico approach. Out of twenty compounds, kappa carrageenan, β-carotene, and astaxanthin showed potential activity against the main protease employing the blind docking method. The top three compounds were subjected to docking against the active site of the main protease only, resulting in astaxanthin (-8.3 kcal/mol) followed by kappa-carrageenan (-8 kcal/mol) as the most potential ligand. On the other hand, quercetin (-9.1 kcal/mol) and kappa-carrageenan (-8.9 kcal/mol) showed the best docking score against human maltase-glucoamylase. The binding mode of each potential compound was visualized using the Discovery Studio Visualizer software. This study provides the potential compound as per the docking method. Further analysis such as dynamics simulation, in vitro and in vivo studies are needed to examine the potential use of these compounds as COVID-19 treatment and or supplement within COVID-19 pandemic, especially for people with diabetes.","PeriodicalId":236342,"journal":{"name":"Indonesian Journal of Biotechnology and Biodiversity","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117118848","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
