The calculated frequency region is 0.1-1 OOCHz, the propagation characteristics of the superconducting transmission lines are studied as a function of the thickness of the superconducting film and the substrate. A 10.7 GHz Gunn diode oscillator motion detector unit has been fitted with metred output and an audio system that enables an operator to obtain both visual and aural information on bed performance. This unit clearly detects and measures bubbling activity in a model fluidized bed. Performance compares favourably with an existing pressure fluctuation technique.
