Yoshinaga, Kazuhiro Tanaka","doi":"10.20659/jjfp.52.2_67","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.20659/jjfp.52.2_67","url":null,"abstract":"2019 This study examined the cost, labor productivity, and profitability of a thinned-log hauling system using smaller machines in a dense network of narrow forest roads at a private forest in Ayabe City, Kyoto Prefecture. By introducing this hauling system, road construction could be carried out at a low cost and higher productivity; in addition, cost of log production was expected to be low. Furthermore, the profitability could be secured with the current subsidy system; however, without subsidy, the thinned-log hauling operation would generate loss. J. For. Plann. 52: 49~57, 2019 Criteria and indicators are efficient for sustainable forest management. Examples for applying indicators to forest planning could be highly suggestive. In this study, the processes of establishment and operation of forest master plans by advanced municipalities that utilize indicators were clarified by interviews. Processes of establishing indicators are categorized and general problems are extracted. Result showed that each set of indicators exhibited a current situation and issues of locality. Indicators were established using Top-down/Bottom-up, Output/Outcome, and Requirement/ Current approaches. There were issues regarding comprehensiveness, consistency, dissemination, and verification.
