The situation in Europe has also dramatically deteriorated in the last decade. This review provides an overview of the occurrence of anthelmintic resistance in small ruminants with a particular focus on Germany and its neighbouring countries. The risk assessment included the analysis of data from milk recordings, bacteriological milk cultures, clinical mastitis records and influence of infected status on the culling risk of affected animals, as well as an evaluation of the milking routine. The milking routine and the treatment protocol of animals with <i>Staphylococcus aureus</i> infection were identified as possible risk factors. The authorization of one established veterinary active ingredient was extended to an additional species: The synthetic prostaglandin F<sub>2α</sub>-analogue cloprostenol (Syncroprost<sup>®</sup>) received approval for goats.
