In this study, we aim to contribute to the literature by studying of non-identical distributed components in a consecutive -out of- system when both stress and strength components follow the proportional hazard rate models. Estimation methods for the stress-strength reliability of this system are investigated from frequentist and Bayesian perspectives. Maximum likelihood and uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimations are obtained in the frequentist approach. Based on the suitability of the structure, approximate Bayes estimates methods: Lindley’s approximation, Markov Chain Monte Carlo through Metropolis-Hastings or Gibbs sampling algorithms and exact Bayes estimates are derived. Asymptotic confidence and highest posterior density credible intervals are also constructed for all cases. We provide comprehensive simulation experiments for investigating the performances of the considered estimates. Wind speed data from NASA’s satellite data source project are used in the application of the considered model and methods. We present the comparison of wind energy potentials of two districts on the Aegean coast of Turkey using our model structure after determining their wind speed distributions.","PeriodicalId":229439,"journal":{"name":"Quality Technology & Quantitative Management","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133533324","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unit 1 is subject to one of the two types of shocks. A type 1 shock causes a minor failure of unit 1, while a type 2 shock makes a catastrophic failure of unit 1. The probabilities of the shock types depend on the number of shocks since the last replacement. Each minor failure of unit 1 brings some cumulative damage to unit 2. When the cumulative damage of unit 2 reaches L, unit 2 fails, which simultaneously causes the failure of unit 1, resulting in a catastrophic failure of system. Moreover, unit 2 with cumulative damage x has a minor failure with probability at unit 1 failure instant, and this failure is removed by a minimal repair. A more general replacement policy is considered, in which the system is replaced when the cumulative damage to unit 2 has reached l (≤ L), or the nth type 1 shock occurs, or when type 2 shock occurs or the accumulative damage to unit 2 exceeds L, whichever comes first. The expression for average cost rate is developed and the corresponding optimal policy is determined analytically and numerically.","PeriodicalId":229439,"journal":{"name":"Quality Technology & Quantitative Management","volume":"118 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116505997","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The standby system undergoes periodic inspections and is vulnerable to α number of failure modes (FMs). Every FM has a random failure time assigned to it, and once the system fails from the a th FM, a corrective repair is executed promptly. The corrective repair takes a random amount of time . Incorporating the aforesaid points, expressions for the upper and lower bounds of the model’s point and long-run availability are derived, and a sensitivity analysis is done to evaluate the impact of inspection time on the system’s availability. Lastly, the derived theorems are established by using a numerical example of a combi-boiler standby system with an imperfect switch.","PeriodicalId":229439,"journal":{"name":"Quality Technology & Quantitative Management","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115003190","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Massive sensor data are highly correlated and change in a complex way over time, which are difficult to describe with parametric models. Furthermore, quality characteristics are often affected by covariates. In this paper, nonparametric monitoring schemes considering covariates are proposed to monitor the correlated profiles in real-time. A profile model considering covariates based on Gaussian process is developed to predict the expected profile. Two control charts are then constructed based on the differences between the observed and expected profiles, which are calculated by Euclidean distance and definite integral, respectively. The effectiveness of the proposed monitoring schemes is validated by simulations. The proposed schemes are applied to a real case of busbar state monitoring in an automotive manufacturing plant.","PeriodicalId":229439,"journal":{"name":"Quality Technology & Quantitative Management","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116084748","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The concurrent optimization of parameter and tolerance design assumes that the output response follows a normal distribution. However, non-normal responses are also common in product quality design. As for the concurrent optimization of parameter and tolerance design with a non-normal response, a novel total cost function based on the two-stage Bayesian sampling method is proposed in this paper. First, the hierarchical Bayesian model constructs the functional relationship between output response, input factors, and tolerance variables. Secondly, a two-stage Bayesian sampling method is used to obtain the simulated values of the output responses. The simulated response values are used to build the rejection cost and quality loss functions. Then, the genetic algorithm is used to optimize the constructed total cost model, including the tolerance cost, rejection cost, and quality loss. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by two examples. The research results show that the proposed method in this paper can effectively improve product quality and reduce manufacturing costs when considering the uncertainty of model parameters and the variation of the output response.","PeriodicalId":229439,"journal":{"name":"Quality Technology & Quantitative Management","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116168147","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When a customer arrives at an empty system, he is served by the server at a low service rate. This low service rate continues until the queue length reaches a threshold. Then the server switches to a high service rate to serve customers who join the system. The high service rate continues until the system becomes empty and a low service rate starts again. Under a service reward and waiting cost structure, customers decide to join or to balk based on their net utility of joining the system. The customers’ equilibrium and socially optimal joining strategies are studied under two information scenarios which are observable and unobservable queues, respectively. Such a model fits a stochastic service system where the server can make his service rate decision and customers can make their joining or baking decisions and thus has wide applications in service industries. Our focus is on examining the equilibrium performance of the queue under the interaction between the server’s service rate and customers’ joining decisions. We develop the steady-state distribution and performance measures of the system by formulating two-dimensional continuous-time Markov chains.","PeriodicalId":229439,"journal":{"name":"Quality Technology & Quantitative Management","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114406245","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
