The level of anxiety experienced by student teachers of each ESP are as follows: Primary School Teacher (3.89), Mathematics (3.74), English Language (3.48), Indonesian Language (3.47) are at a high level. While the level of teaching anxiety of student teachers of Biology ESP (3.35) and Economic ESP (3.26) are at the normal level. Meanwhile, the most influencing factor causing the teaching anxiety were teaching preparation (3.86), teaching evaluation (3.73), class control (3.71), school staff (3.58), and failure in teaching (3, 58). With the anxiety that arises, good communication is the initial solution that can be done so that real teaching activities get better. Finally, real teaching will be more useful when the anxiety that arises is considered as a stimulation so that students can carry out better real teaching activities.","PeriodicalId":228839,"journal":{"name":"ELT in Focus","volume":"125 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123714919","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the majority of research focuses only on the teachers’ viewpoint. This paper aims to reveal the students’ voices towards LA, especially its’ desirability and feasibility in the context of EFL classroom in Indonesia. This case study was carried out in one private university in Subang. 44 students were purposively selected as the participants. The data were collected through distributing questionnaires and conducting interviews. It is revealed that most of participants perceive LA as both desirable and feasible. However, they still find that it is not easy to develop their LA without adequate support from their teachers. It can be concluded that the students are willing to develop their LA. It is suggested that there should be more teacher training regarding the promotion of LA in the Indonesian EFL context.","PeriodicalId":228839,"journal":{"name":"ELT in Focus","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116823003","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Critical theories discourse contained in literary work can be an interesting issue when textbooks used in Higher Education have not provided a mandate and a good and strong model to imitate. Given the importance of the role of textbooks in the process of knowledge transfer other than lecturers, it is necessary to develop literary coursebooks that subtly contain critical theories in order to produce better quality resources in changing attitudes and actions of readers.This research used a simplified Research and Development method that only covered three main stages: (1) preliminary study, (2) product formulation and development, and (3) product validation and dissemination. In addition, this study focused on coursebooks containing critical theories for English Education students of 6th Semester on Basic Analysis of Prose course at State University of Singaperbangsa Karawang.The coursebook as the development product for Basic Analysis of Prose in English Language Education Program at State University of Singaperbangsa Karawang has a total average analysis of validation results and small group testing above 80%, so it can be categorized as valid and feasible.","PeriodicalId":228839,"journal":{"name":"ELT in Focus","volume":"32 10","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114038158","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It covers the types of substitution used by the students in their expository texts and the contribution of substitution to the texts’ cohesion. This study uses qualitative research through case study design. The participants in this study are nine students of twelfth grade in a public senior high school in Kuningan. The data in the present study are the documents of students’ expository texts. The data are analyzed by using the frameworks of cohesive devices proposed by Halliday and Hasan (1976). The findings indicate that there is only one substitution found in this study namely nominal substitution. The present study also delineates that the use of substitution contributes to the process of avoiding repetition and text redundancy. Furthermore, it can be concluded that the use and the contribution of substitution in students’ expository texts are still considered low. Thus, the encouragement is very necessary for the students to use appropriate substitution to make their texts more cohesive.","PeriodicalId":228839,"journal":{"name":"ELT in Focus","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128241089","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The development of the pattern researchers realized in the reading exercise pattern using news text media. This certainly will arouse the curiosity of the participants, compared to the pattern of practice materializing formal texts or even reading texts with old themes. The use of news texts that are more casual in nature certainly can be used as a benchmark for students' reading skills, especially in honing the scanning and skimming skills they have learned before. How fast the participants in reading and understanding the meaning they read is the target of success that the researchers saw, so that in the future researchers can find other ways to apply the method of scanning and skimming with other text media.","PeriodicalId":228839,"journal":{"name":"ELT in Focus","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131937579","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The highest students’ preferences for classroom learning activities are vocabulary exercising, followed by simulation and grammar exercising. It is also found that most students consider English is important in their future career and they might need English to communicate with colleague and customer. This information target situation should be taken into consideration as the basis of syllabus and material development. The information from target situation analysis is important in ESP course since it is all about eliciting what the learners have to know related to their future career.","PeriodicalId":228839,"journal":{"name":"ELT in Focus","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116561416","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
