The study reveals the problem-thematic and genre characteristics of V. Sevsky’s journalism in the context of the development of Russian satirical journalism of the revolutionary period. The dynamics is analyzed how the nature of the journalist’s publications changed throughout 1917: from an ironic assessment of certain aspects of the work of the Provisional Government to sarcastic ridicule of the new government, bureaucracy and speculation. The author presents the main antiheroes of V. Sevsky’s satirical journalism, analyzes the techniques of creating satirical images.","PeriodicalId":228573,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Southern Federal University. An artist, who perceives and conceives it, may find himself or herself in the milieu of different time and space. However, his or her vision and perception of Chekhov’s personality and works enrich both his/her own world of arts, the world of arts in general, and the understanding of Chekhov’s oeuvre and legacy. Artists of the Don and Azov Region, who come from the same part of the country as the great writer, react to the writer’s destiny and works in much more vivid way, creating some kind of the “Chekhovian text” in the fine arts of the region. Originality of artistic searches, specific features of artists’ manner and style, profoundly expressed focus of their creative efforts on Chekhov’s works and life, and allusions to writer’s works condition the selection of samples of the fine arts Chekhoviana in the Don and Sea of Azov Region. A sculptural portrait of A.P. Chekhov by S.N. Oleshnya illustrates the perception of the writer by his contemporaries: a combination of cheerfulness, love for life, humour, and sadness. A work by V.A. Kozin entitled Chekhov is a sample of Vector graphic art and depicts the writer as a “common man”, stressing the idea by a slightly changed Chekhov’s phrase given at the bottom of the sheet. A sculptural portrait of A.P. Chekhov by A.A. Sknarin, a sculptor, and Yu.D. Dvornikov, an architect, depicts Anton Pavlovich both as a genius writer and a great public figure and enlightener, who enlarged and enriched the stocks of a city public library in Taganrog with a great number of books. At the same time, the monument turned out to be harmoniously “inside” the Pushkin plot of Rostov-on-Don. The Monument to A.P. Chekhov “The Cherry Orchard” by D.V. Lyndin in Taganrog is a sample of site-specific and environmental art – the genre urban sculpture. A stage set study for the Chekhov’s play The Cherry Orchard by A.A. The article is aimed at studying and defining the ways to use films and series at the English language lessons effectively for the purpose of enlarging students’ vocabulary with the words and phrases of colloquial speech. The article is based on various works on this issue, for example the works of L.V. Sadovina, N.S. Savitskaya, D.M. Chun, J. Sherman and others. It dwells on the prerequisites of involving video into the studying process, defines the advantages of learning by means of films and series, specifies the criteria of film selection and the stages of the studying process involving films and series. The problem of the absence of slang words in textbooks is discussed and the necessity of including slang into language learning is highlighted. Films and series are viewed as the unique authentic materials in which slang is widely represented. The importance of comparing neutral words and synonymous slang is emphasized. The peculiarities of the work at each stage are exemplified by the tasks to the TV series «Gilmore Girls». As a result of the research we can conclude that a film is an effective and entertaining way of learning contemporary spoken speech. The scientific novelty of the research is manifested in focusing on slang as a feature of the modern English language and also on video as the means of learning slang and thus increasing students’ vocabulary, quality of comprehension, the ability to differentiate styles and usage peculiarities. The article is of particular interest to the teachers of foreign language at higher educational establishments or high school.","PeriodicalId":228573,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Southern Federal University. Zaytsev. An important part of spatial organization is the category of the Other, which appears to be constitutionally significant. Position of the Other space or hero helps to highlight subjects substituting and interchanging, and the same is characteristic for locus. Both a character and a place can represent an example of The Other. Coming-of-age of a character comes from interacting with The Other, something different from the character’s Self. The comparison of the Self with The Other acts as a trigger for subject’s transformation. A particular location happens to be connected with a particular narrative subject. Analysis of spatial structure of the novel allows to discover the patterns of subjective text organization transformation and to define important connections of particular places and characters/","PeriodicalId":228573,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Southern Federal University. Verkhovykh","doi":"10.18522/1995-0640-2022-1-81-93","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.18522/1995-0640-2022-1-81-93","url":null,"abstract":"The article presents an analysis of scientific literature devoted to the study of the linguistic local history direction of language learning. The aim of the work is to describe the origins of Russian linguistic local history, regional onomastics based on the use of textological analysis, descriptive method, elements of comparative and comparative-historical methods. The material of the research is presented by works that have a linguistic local history character, starting from the 30s of 18th century. Based on the analysis of scientific works of the 18th and early 19th centuries, including the linguistic local history component, the author comes to the following conclusions. Since the first third of the 18th century in Russia, there have been some fragmentary attempts at linguistic local lore commenting when describing settlements by historians, geographers, physicians, and biologists who participated in research expeditions across Russia. Of particular importance in this respect was the historical and regional studies activities of V.N. Tatishchev, who compiled detailed questions for the study of settlements in Russia, prepared the first part of the “Lexicon of Russian historical, geographical, political and civil”. The material of the research shows that the origins of scientific linguistic regional studies in Russia are associated with the activities of V.K. Trediakovsky and M.V. Lomonosov. M.V. Lomonosov consistently introduced the linguistic local history component into the research methodology, which was applied in practice in the compilation of the “Russian grammar”, in the organization of centralized work on the historical and geographical study of Russian settlements, in the development of the foundations of teaching Russian students in their native language. M.V. Lomonosov is the founder of the linguistic local history direction in Russian linguistics. The beginning of scientific regional onomastic research is associated with the activities of E.A. Bolkhovitinov, who for the first time in 1800 gave a detailed historical and linguistic description of the toponymy and microtoponymy of the Voronezh Territory.","PeriodicalId":228573,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Southern Federal University.
