Genetic analysis of individual variation at the DNA level is widely used to investigate the extent of genetic diversity and to understand the population structure among different populations. The present study was conducted to find out the extent of affinities and diversities among three tribal populations of Chhattisgaarh, India namely Halba, Gadba and Oraon. They belong to different language families. Halba belongs to Indo-European, Gadba belongs to Austro-Asiatic while Oraon belongs to Dravidian language family. Analysis on seven widely distributed polymorphic insertion/deletion loci (Alu APO, Alu ACE, Alu D1, Alu PV92, Alu FXIIIB, Alu CD4 del and Alu PLAT) in 160 unrelated individuals of both sexes were done. All loci were highly polymorphic except Alu CD4 del locus. All the three tribes showed lowest heterozygosity for CD4 locus. GST value was recorded lowest for Alu PLAT locus (0.0004) while the highest was recorded for Alu PV92 locus (0.1029). The unrooted Neighbor-Joining (NJ) tree showed Gadba and Oraon form one cluster while Halba tribe differentiates from them.","PeriodicalId":227852,"journal":{"name":"The Asian Man - An International Journal","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128606707","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The goal of this study was mainly to reconstruct the intensity of occupation in different locations of modern settlements through elemental analysis of anthropogenic soil. For this purpose, more than 300 soil samples were collected from five villages of the Nandakini Valley. Trace element analysis was conducted using the inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometer (ICP). The chemical analysis revealed that anthropogenic soils from hearth and cooking areas (HCAs), refuse deposition areas (RDAs), cow dung deposition areas (CDAs) and toilet areas (TLAs) are capable for holding rich compositions of calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), sodium (Na), potassium (K) and phosphorus (P), while anthropogenic soils from sleeping areas (SLAs), agricultural areas (AGAs) and barren land areas (BLAs) show a lower concentration of these elements, indicating that these soils are less capable for holding access composition of the said elements. On the basis of this scientific analysis, we can say that trace element analysis is significantly useful in identifying activity-rich areas and non-activity areas in the past settlement. At the same time, the estimation of hydrogen ion concentration is also potentially helpful in archaeological investigation.","PeriodicalId":227852,"journal":{"name":"The Asian Man - An International Journal","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130921925","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is based on empirical data obtained from the Pawra tribal community. Ethnographic fieldwork was conducted in seven villages from Akrani Mahal Tahsil in District Nandurbar, in the state of Maharashtra. These villages were selected because they are predominantly inhabited by the Pawra tribal community. Abrupt changes in an individual's health condition/onset of an ailment/sudden weakness are usually attributed to external forces. Depending on the symptoms of the ailments and the knowledge regarding capabilities of the known/available ‘budwa’ (traditional healer), the patient/relatives decide as to which ‘budwu’ (traditional healer) is to be consulted. Ailments attributed to certain aetiological factors evoke a specific response. It also affects the mental state of the patient. A few members of the Pawra community, who resort to modern medicine, generally prefer to consult a private physician. The reluctance for availing services from a primary health centre/cottage hospital is deep rooted in their undesirable experiences at these institutions. However, the people have mixed reactions about their comparison between government and private physicians. Some physicians at Dhadgaon indicated that the Pawra are negligent about health. Data indicate that the extensive ethno-medical system prevalent among the Pawra would continue to be ‘an useful supportive system’ for many more years to come.","PeriodicalId":227852,"journal":{"name":"The Asian Man - An International Journal","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130246617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The term ‘SC’ was first used by the British in the Government of India Act, 1935. SCs were totally marginalised from the mainstream of society and were deprived in every aspect of their livelihood. In this paper, we have described the health conditions of sample households, health schemes by the government, health services provided by the government and sample households’ awareness regarding government schemes and services, etc. About 97 per cent of the sample households had suffered from ill health in the recent past. In the Visakhapatnam District, 50.22 per cent and in the West Godavari District 49.78 per cent were diseased persons out of a total of 669 diseased persons. The disease prevalence rate is high in females in both Visakhapatnam (73.68) and West Godavari (56.07) Districts in the age group of 0–14 years. With regard to the total diseased persons, a majority of them were spending 501–1000 (39.91%), 36.62 per cent were spending below 500 and 23.47 per cent were spending above 1000. In the Visakhapatnam District, 33 per cent and in the West Godavari District 34 per cent of the sample households benefited from the Rajiv Arogyasri Scheme (RAS). In the West Godavari District, more sample households underwent the family planning operation and they were aware about AIDS and causes for the disease when compared with Visakhapatnam District sample households.","PeriodicalId":227852,"journal":{"name":"The Asian Man - An International Journal","volume":"549 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123115306","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
