Hybrid effects of different parameters, such as THz wave incident direction, its frequency and polarization, chemical potentials of the graphene sheets and constitutive tensors of the bianisotropic media, on the co- and cross-polarized reflection and transmission coefficients are characterized numerically, with their bandpass properties captured and compared. It is shown that there are more freedoms provided by layered graphene sheets and bianisotropic media at the same time, which can be exploited for effectively controlling the THz wave propagation.","PeriodicalId":225547,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Wireless Symposium (IWS 2014)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133432805","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed structures employ two closely coupled layers, one made of conducting patches and another made of apertures (slits) in a ground plane. They are placed on either side of a very thin supporting dielectric substrate (55μm) with a rotation of 90° between the elements in order to produce maximum coupling. The dimensions of the proposed structures are optimised to produce maximum miniaturisation thereby occupying very little space on a compact ground plane. A microstrip line excitation is initially used for the efficient analysis and design of the structures. Two CPW-fed printed monopoles are subsequently employed to form MIMO system and the mutual coupling reduction is demonstrated. Results obtained in 3D electromagnetic simulation software (CST Microwave studio) are presented.","PeriodicalId":225547,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Wireless Symposium (IWS 2014)","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127994382","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The high gain antenna is a 4 element broadside microstrip array fed by parasitic coupling. The antenna is developed on a thin substrate of 0.762 mm thick. The broadside gain is 11.37 dBi at 5.5 GHz. The CMRC filter has filtered out the higher order modes of the micostrip antenna till 16 GHz. The sizes of the antenna array with and without the CMRC filter are exactly the same. Therefore, the design presented is a promising technique in designing a thin and compact high gain planar antenna with low-noise received.","PeriodicalId":225547,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Wireless Symposium (IWS 2014)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128985757","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dispersion diagram of the EBG structures was studied by the FDTD method before the EBG structures were combined with the antennas to reduce the mutual coupling. Convolution perfect matched layer (CPML) and periodic boundary conditions (PBCs) were used in the FDTD method for accurate and efficient computing purpose. Case study shows that 16.4dB reduction of the mutual coupling was achieved at the designed resonant frequency by virtue of only a row of EBG structures, and the average reduction in the working band of the antenna was 7.57 dB. Thus, the method can be considered as a potential solution for mutual coupling reduction in array application.","PeriodicalId":225547,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Wireless Symposium (IWS 2014)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126928637","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The model parameters are only related to the layout and process data. So this model is scalable with the two factors. We provide simple and accurate expressions for the self-inductance, mutual coupling inductance, oxide capacitance and the mutual coupling capacitance. High frequency effect and thick metal effect are considered, so the model is accurate at high frequency and can be used at millimeter wave IC design. The model is generated by these equations directly, and no further fitting or optimization is required. The model is verified by 65nm and 40nm CMOS technology transformers. We compare S-parameters, self-inductance of each coil, and coupling coefficient. The RF pulse generator exhibits an extremely-low RF leakage implementing the RF leaking suppression technique, in which the RF leaking signal is cancelled by combining with its replica using an active balun. In addition, the active balun also amplifies the gated RF pulses hence providing gain for the RF pulse generator. A graphical analysis based on the insertion loss and isolation contours, enabling selection of the optimum sizes for transistors in the series-shunt switches, is also presented. From 31 to 37.1 GHz, the designed RF pulse generator exhibits -1.9 dB (loss) to 1.1 dB (gain) and 14.5-30 dB input return loss. The output return loss is higher than 10 dB from 33 to 35.9 GHz. From 30 to 40 GHz, the isolation is higher than 40 dB and, especially at 34 GHz, the isolation reaches 70 dB. The rising and falling times were measured as 136 ps and 70 ps, respectively. Very narrow RF pulses of 200 ps have been generated. The RF pulse generator consumes a 7.3 mA from a 1.8-V power supply and occupies a chip area of 0.225 mm2.","PeriodicalId":225547,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Wireless Symposium (IWS 2014)","volume":"418 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116012215","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
