Measured performance of CMOS transceiver, which included useful functions such as dual operation of long/short range detection, I/Q signal process and gain attenuation when near target detection, shows comparable performances to that of commercial SiGe radar chips. Especially, the transmitter consumes one third lower power compared to SiGe chips. These results confirm that it may be a promising candidate for low cost and small size car radar system.","PeriodicalId":225547,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Wireless Symposium (IWS 2014)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123433818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper investigates the fundamental properties of the EE-SE relationship for point-to-point MIMO transmission link. Reducing circuit power is helpful to improve EE in the low SE region while introducing more antennas benefits the EE in the high SE region. We also study the properties of EE-optimal points. It is found that reducing circuit power brings exponential EE increasing with linear SE loss at the EE-optimal points. More multiplexing gain will alleviate the speed of EE reduction with the increase of SE. More diversity gain brings a fixed EE gain. Above conclusion is also suitable to MIMO systems with active antennas. With the given number of antennas, there is an optimal number of transceivers to maximize the EE for each SE value.","PeriodicalId":225547,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Wireless Symposium (IWS 2014)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125935613","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The receiver consists of 3-stages LNA, doubler with buffer amplifier, and IQ-mixer. The LNA, doubler and IQ-mixer are also presented separately. The LNA covers 75 to 90 GHz with 15 dB gain and a simulated minimum 5 dB noise figure; doubler covers 75 to 90 GHz with 8 to 12 dBm output power and the IQ-mixer an RF frequency from 75 to 90 GHz and IF frequency from DC to 8 GHz with only estimated 8 dB conversion loss and better than 35 dB image reject. The complete receiver circuit shows an RF bandwidth of 75 to 90 GHz and IF bandwidth from DC to more than 8 GHz. It is achieved by introducing a band-limiting technique into the existing 2-D DPD model in order to resolve the bandwidth mismatching problem in wideband communication systems. Compared to the existing 2-D DPD, the proposed method can further reduce the sampling rate requirement of the analog to digital and digital to analog converters, and the bandwidth of the transmitter and the observation path of the DPD system. Experimental results show that the proposed approach produces excellent performance and it is well suitable for future ultra wideband concurrent dual-band transmitters.","PeriodicalId":225547,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Wireless Symposium (IWS 2014)","volume":"319 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123329315","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fabricated in 0.18-μm BiCMOS process, the proposed divide-by-2 ILFD with dual-injection improves the locking range through simultaneous optimization of loaded quality factor (QL) and oscillation current amplitude (iosc) while consuming low power. The measured locking range of the proposed ILFD with dual-injection is 692 MHz between 7.512 GHz and 8.204 GHz, which is almost 10 times wider than that of a single-injection counterpart.
