Their main aim is to create a low-dimensional embeddings of the original high-dimensional data, laying the face data points on a 'face manifold'. In this work in order to test their performance we applied LLE and Isomap in two face databases together with principal component analysis (PCA), their linear counterpart, varying as parameters the (i) number embedding dimensions and (ii) the number of neighbours. Furthermore, at the final stage we used a data ranking algorithm, which ranks the data with respect to the intrinsic manifold structure and its geometric properties. Experimental results indicate the superiority of the data ranking algorithm on face manifolds against the classical Euclidean distance measure.","PeriodicalId":225295,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE 9th Workshop on Multimedia Signal Processing","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125133645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When a GOP (group of pictures) structure is imposed on an encoded video, a bit rate control and a bit allocation among frames are two important components of a rate control algorithm. We employ a GOP rate model and the monotonicity property to address the bit rate control and the frame-layer bit allocation problem, respectively. Since the proposed algorithm employs only a GOP rate model, the rate control mechanism can be greatly simplified while it achieves better video quality as compared with that in the H.264 JM8.6 reference encoder.","PeriodicalId":225295,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE 9th Workshop on Multimedia Signal Processing","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122173043","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By integrating the object-based visual attention model (V'AM) with the contextual attention model (CAM), the proposed scheme not only can more reliably take advantage of the human perceptual characteristics but also effectively discriminate which video contents may attract users' attention. In addition, extended from the Google PageRank algorithm which sorts the websites based on the importance, we introduce the so-call content-based attention rank (AR) to effectively measure the user interest (UI) level of each video frame. The information of users' feedback is treated as the enhanced query data to further improve the retrieving accuracy. The proposed algorithm is evaluated on commercial baseball game sequences and produces promising results.","PeriodicalId":225295,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE 9th Workshop on Multimedia Signal Processing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129728936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The dual-stream model proposes that semantic networks may be accessed by at least three parallel neural streams: at least two ventral streams that map directly from acoustics to words (with different time scales), and at least one dorsal stream that maps from acoustics to articulation. Our implementation represents each of these streams by a dynamic Bayesian network; disagreements between the three streams are resolved using a voting scheme. The proposed algorithm was tested using the CUAVE audiovisual speech corpus. Results indicate that the ventral stream model tends to make fewer mistakes in the labeling of vowels, while the dorsal stream model tends to make fewer mistakes in the labeling of consonants; the recognizer voting scheme takes advantage of these differences to reduce overall word error rate.","PeriodicalId":225295,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE 9th Workshop on Multimedia Signal Processing","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128544317","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The perceptual feature extraction is based on psychoacoustic model and exhibits good discrimination ability for different audio contents but robustness against common audio signal processing operations. Via feature extraction in the compressed domain, the MDCT-based compressed audios, such as MP3, AAC, etc., could be efficiently identified without complete decoding which facilitates those practical applications with strict requirements of memory and computational complexity, such as online audio retrieval, indexing of massive compressed audio data, audio identification by mobile phone, etc. The algorithm is highly robust against MDCT compression which is widely used in audio coding. Experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.","PeriodicalId":225295,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE 9th Workshop on Multimedia Signal Processing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130366306","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The transmission of the additional information is performed without increasing the bandwidth occupation, by hiding this information into the video itself at the encoder side. The considered transmission system is the DVB-H system. The performance of the method has been investigated by simulations and experimental tests in order to evaluate the perceived quality of the processed video and the robustness of the data hiding method against the H.264/AVC coding.","PeriodicalId":225295,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE 9th Workshop on Multimedia Signal Processing","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123826306","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The principle is to pre-distort a group of frames to align the temporal and spatial correlations along the three axis. Motion and geometry are estimated through similar procedures. Distorted frames are obtained through the use of a single operator combining both motion and geometry compensation. The compensated volume is then encoded by a simple 3D separable wavelet coder. The receiver finally decodes the volume and synthesizes original frames by inverting the compensation operators. Using active meshes to represent both the motion and the geometry, compression results point out a significant visual improvement of reconstructed contours compared to an Hybrid coder and a previous A-S coder with no geometry estimation.","PeriodicalId":225295,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE 9th Workshop on Multimedia Signal Processing","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114692153","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We approach the problem in a statistical framework, combining ideas from multistream Hidden Markov Models and canonical correlation analysis, and demonstrate effective estimation of the trajectories followed by certain points of interest in the speech production system. Our experiments show that exploiting both audio and visual modalities clearly improves performance relative to either audio-only or visual-only estimation. First, we calculate the normalized protrusion degree of each dual vertex on the smoothed 3-D mesh. The protrusion degree of a vertex and the vertex's 3-D coordinates form a 4-D feature vector, which we use to represent the polygon mesh. Since a 3-D object is composed of a large number of polygon meshes, we apply PCA to the set of 4-D feature vectors. We take the axes corresponding to the top three principal components as the three axes of a new coordinate system and project the set of 4-D vectors onto the system. Surprisingly, the projected data along the first axis reveals the salient structures of the 3-D object. Therefore, using the first component axis as the search basis, we can identify all the salient parts of an arbitrary 3-D object.","PeriodicalId":225295,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE 9th Workshop on Multimedia Signal Processing","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124093267","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the most important steps in a video quality measurement algorithm is to find the corresponding frames between the reference and the distorted video sequence. In this paper an algorithm with three steps is proposed. First, an extended version of the phase correlation is used to find candidate images with an arbitrary temporal offset, spatial scaling or spatial shift. Based on the assumption that the spatial scaling and spatial shift does not change during the sequence a set of probable parameters is selected. Finally, a maximum likelihood estimation is applied to select those temporal offsets which support the smoothest playback. A set of video sequences degraded with several distortions which are typical for multimedia scenarios are used to compare the performance to other algorithms.","PeriodicalId":225295,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE 9th Workshop on Multimedia Signal Processing","volume":"2015 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127720056","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
