Communication relates to the cultural context, based on some literatures about teacher-student communication, there are also variations according to the cultural context in which communication occurs. For this reason, this study aims to find out how the concept of teacher-student communication is in Indonesian school context. This type of research is qualitative. Participants in the study were teachers and students at the junior high school (SMP) level. The data collection method was a survey using an open questionnaire. Data analysis used thematic content analysis. The results show that direct and indirect (online) communication has different dynamics. This study tries to find out the ideas of young people about democracy and its basic structure using the Social Representation approach. Young people aged between 17 to 33 years (N = 237 people) participated in this study. Data collection was carried out using a survey technique by asking them what they thought about democracy and what values they saw as the basic values of democracy. The three main ideas of young people about democracy are freedom of opinion (63.98%), plurality and equality (62.03%) and justice (48.52%). These three ideas are basic values for the formation of assertive citizens and at the same time reflect the need for young people to be independent and participate. Multidimensional scaling statistical techniques are used to summarize and capture the basic structure of 13 ideas about democracy. There are two main dimensions found. The first dimension describes democracy as a tension between the ideas of liberal democracy (freedom of opinion and equality-plurality) and the idea of integralism (prosperity, unity, law and order, responsibility and honesty). The second dimension describes democracy as the tension between the principles of justice and the principles of people's sovereignty (people's sovereignty, deliberations, general elections and togetherness). In particular, this article wants to explore and provide orientation towards professional psychology education programs in Indonesia. After discussing the brief history of professional psychology education programs in Indonesia and the legal complexities that accompany them, the authors explore the curriculum of professional programs compared to academic programs. The writers try to look at two aspects of the curriculum: (1) substantive knowledge and skills regarding scientific disciplines; (2) knowledge of the service context and practice of the discipline. The authors then try to identify four competencies that need to be learned in the Professional Psychology program. Hidajat","doi":"10.24071/suksma.v4i1.5789","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.24071/suksma.v4i1.5789","url":null,"abstract":"The Covid-19 pandemic and the changing circumstances that followed can disrupt grieving process and lead to maladaptive grief. Emerging adults who experience parental death are vulnerable since loss at this age tends to be unanticipated and potentially disrupt the development process. Nevertheless, a loss can produce positive changes called posttraumatic growth (PTG) as a result of the struggle facing adversity. This study examines the process of PTG by looking at personality traits and grief rumination and using a qualitative approach. Three emerging adults aged 25-26 years who experienced parental death during the pandemic were involved and selected using purposive sampling. Data was collected mainly by semi-structured interviews and analyzed by thematic analysis. Results indicated that PTG is a complex process, unique to each individual, and involving substantial cognitive processing. The dynamics of personality traits and grief rumination also play a role. Positive and reinforcing personality traits, such as conscientiousness, openness to experience, extraversion, and agreeableness, can help participants overcome grief and experience positive changes after loss. Meanwhile, neuroticism was found to hinder PTG. Furthermore, meaning in grief rumination plays the most prominent role to determine the process of PTG in the participants of this study. The ability to see a positive meaning from the loss helps to achieve PTG and conversely the tendency to think of the negative meaning can inhibit PTG. One of the predisposing factors for NSSI is exposure to Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE). Individuals in these two contexts are also found to have different worldviews. The aim of this study was to describe the dynamics of meaning-making in the context of emerging adults with a history of ACE and NSSI. This study uses a qualitative-phenomenological approach. Interviews were conducted with three participants aged 19-25 years, having 5-8 ACE (ACE questionnaire screening), doing NSSI (NSSI-AT screening), and live in Jabodetabek. Participants were selected by purposive sampling. Thematic analysis of the data was carried out according to the theory of meaning-making model, ACE, and NSSI. The results showed that distress by adversive experience triggered the meaning-making process. The role of the deliberate and cognitive process is more helpful in the dynamics of meaning-making. The meanings made, such as acceptance, re-appraisal, re-attribution, perceptions of growth, and changes in global meaning, were found to reduce distress and generate compassion. However, the meanings made can still be dynamically developed throughout the individual's life. In further research, exploration in the gender role, culture, and other humanistic aspects, such as forgiveness and support system in meaning-making can be carried out. Whereas in addition to being constructive, memory is also reconstructive, which means that memory can change due to certain conditions, resulting in false memories. The effect of stress on false memory was tested in this between-subject design experiment.  Participants in this study (N = 38) were divided into two conditions through a random assignment process, control conditions (N = 27) and stress or experiment conditions (N = 11).  We used a modified Trier Social Stress Test-Group to induce stress and Deese-Roediger-McDermott Paradigm to measure false memory. The independent sample t-test showed that there was no significant difference on false memory recall and false memory recognition between participants in the experiment condition and participants in the control condition. This indicated that stress did not affect false memory. Pertanyaan semacam ini cukup lazim di antara akademisi psikologi. Pertanyaan ini terus menerus muncul dalam sejarah psikologi, seolah-olah para peneliti dan akademisi psikologi tidak pernah merasa kerasan tinggal di rumahnya sendiri. Seperti seseorang yang mendiami rumah baru, beberapa tampak asing dan beberapa tampak familiar, namun selalu timbul perasaan ada yang tidak cocok. Orang awam dengan mudah menyebutkan psikologi sebagai ilmu jiwa dengan merunut pada etimologinya, psike, namun para akademisi terombang-ambing antara psikologi sebagai ilmu perilaku dan ilmu mental. Asosiasi psikologi Amerika yang menjadi acuan sebagaian besar akademisi psikologi di Indonesia mendefinisikan psikologi sebagai, ilmu yang meneliti pikiran dan perilaku atau kajian ilmiah terhadap perilaku individu dan proses-proses mentalnya (Perez-Alvarez, 2018). Kesulitan terutama yang dihadapi untuk menentukan ruang lingkup psikologi salah satunya berasal dari upaya menggambarkan psikologi sebagai ilmu yang dipandang “sejati”, yakni ilmu yang mengikuti kaidah dan norma cara meneliti ilmu alam. Jika psikologi harus beroperasi seperti halnya ilmuwan fisika, data tentang pengalaman subjektif mengenai perjuangan seseorang untuk mencapai kesejahteraan mental maupun berbagai pengalaman psikologis lainnya tidak dapat masuk hitungan. Standard emas menurut pendekatan ini, sering disebut sebagai pendekatan positivisme, adalah gejala yang dapat teramati oleh pihak ketiga. Dan yang paling memenuhi standar ini adalah gejala perilaku, seperti jumlah air liur yang keluar atau jumlah perilaku menginjak pedal di dalam kotak Skinner. Perilaku seperti itu dapat diamati oleh pihak ketiga dan sekaligus dapat dihitung. Tes-tes prestasi dan tes kemampuan lain dapat digolongkan ke dalam perilaku yang teramati, karena dalam tes semacam itu berapa jumlah soal yang terjawab dengan benar dapat diketahui oleh siapapun. Tes inventori maupun skala sikap meskipun memiliki penampakan yang sama dengan tes prestasi atau kemampuan, dalam standar emas ini kurang dapat diterima karena masih mengandalkan pelaporan diri yang tak dapat diperiksa oleh pihak ketiga. Peneliti yang menggunakan peralatan ini berasumsi bahwa pengakuan testee dapat dipercaya, ketika ia menyatakan bahwa perilakunya sesuai atau tidak sesuai dengan item pernyataan. Namun karena pengakuan itu dapat direpresentasikan dalam derajat angka kesetujuan dan dapat dibandingkan tingkat kesetujuan antar responden, publik akdemik psikologi cenderung dapat menoleransi kelemahan tersebut. Alhasil studi-studi psikologi dipenuhi dengan data-data kuesioner berskala. Yang tidak mudah diterima oleh arus utama psikologi modern adalah narasi dan pengakuan verbal pihak pertama, si pelaku atau si orang yang mengalami keadaan dan peristiwa yang menjadi topik penelitian. Isi dari pengakuan verbal dan narasi pengalaman tidak dapat disaksikan secara langsung oleh pihak lain. The hypothesis of this research there was a negative correlation between self-regulation and Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) in college students who used social media. The participants of this research were 402 college students aged 18 to 25 years who used at least one of the following four social media: YouTube, WhatsApp, Facebook, or Instagram. This research was quantitative research using a non-probability sampling technique. The instruments used in this research were two scales arranged by the researcher, self-regulation modeled on Bandura’s self-regulation theory (in Feist et al., 2018), and the FoMO scale modeled on Przybylski et al’s FoMO theory (2013). According to the try-out of scales, the reliability coefficient on the self-regulation scale was 0,861 and on the FoMO scale was 0,815. The data analysis technique in this research used Spearman’s rho technique because the data were not normally distributed. Conventional analysis techniques, such as ones that were based on linear model, assume that the observation are independent. Such assumption were often violated in studies on communication. Therefore, it was imperative to develop statistical analysis techniques that could address problems related to data with dependent observation either in communication events. Such efforts could not be separated from literature studies addressing several research questions: (1) What kind of research questions  that frequently arose in communication in Psychology?, (2) What statistical analysis techniques that were commonly used to answer the questions in such studies?, (3) What potential statitical analysis techniques that could be used in the studies?, and (4) How were the discrepancies between the needs in communication studies in Psychology with the statistical analysis techniques currently available? The current studies attempted to address those questions by conducting a study of literature review. It was shown that there was still a big space for improvement for studies on communication particularly in Indonesia. Many statistical techniques that were currently available, such as dyadic analysis or social network analysis, have not been employed to address the issues related to dependence of observation or social relations data. The research hypothesis proposed that there was a negative correlation between work engagement with turnover intention among generation y employees. The participants in this study were 411 generation Y employees. This research was a quantitative study with non-probability sampling technique. The data was collected by distributing online scales which are Utrecht Work Engagement Scale-9 (UWES-9) and Turnover Intention Scale Six Items (TIS-6). From the try-out of scales, the reliability of coefficients on UWES-9 was .91 and TIS-6 was .78. The data was analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation technique because the data was normally distributed. The result of the analysis test showed that work engagement has a negative correlation with turnover intention with r = -.63; p .01.
