Thus, multi factorial effects of observations, measurement noise and prior distributions of hyperparameters are all correctly incorporated in the computed predictive distribution. Using discrete prior probabilities and compactly supported kernels, we provide a way to design sequential Bayesian prediction algorithms that can be computed (without using the Gibbs sampler) in constant time as the number of observations increases. Both centralized and distributed sequential Bayesian prediction algorithms have been proposed for mobile sensor networks. An adaptive sampling strategy for mobile sensors, using the maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimation, has been proposed to minimize the prediction error variances. Simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.","PeriodicalId":225201,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2011 American Control Conference","volume":"307 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122522983","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

More precisely, it is studied systems for which the backstepping tool for the design of stabilizers can not be applied. On the contrary, it leads to feedback laws such that the origin of the closed-loop system is not globally asymptotically stable, but a suitable attractor (strictly containing the origin) is practically asymptotically stable. Then, a design method is suggested to build a hybrid feedback law combining a backstepping controller with a locally stabilizing controller. The results are illustrated for a nonlinear system which, due to the structure of the system, does not have a priori any globally stabilizing backstepping controller.","PeriodicalId":225201,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2011 American Control Conference","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128096078","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The hydraulic hybrid vehicle uses a variable displacement pump/motor combination to transfer energy between the mechanical and hydraulic domains and a high pressure accumulator for energy storage. The proposed controller observes the gas and brake pedal positions to estimate the desired wheel torque. It regulates the engine throttle command, pump/motor displacement, and applied brake force to track this desired torque while optimizing the powertrain efficiency. Simulation studies were conducted to evaluate the effects of engine dwell time and accumulator capacity versus on the overall vehicle fuel economy.","PeriodicalId":225201,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2011 American Control Conference","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123555949","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most model reduction algorithms assume linear models and fail when applied to nonlinear high dimensional systems, in particular, fluid flow problems with high Reynolds numbers. For example, proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) fails to capture the nonlinear degrees of freedom in these systems, since it assumes that data belong to a linear space and therefore relies on the Euclidean distance as the metric to minimize. However, snapshots generated by nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) belong to manifolds for which the geodesies do not correspond in general to the Euclidean distance. A geodesic is a curve that is locally the shortest path between points. In this paper, we propose a model reduction method which generalizes POD to nonlinear manifolds which have a differentiable structure at each of their points. Moreover, an optimal method in constructing reduced order models for the two-dimensional Burgers' equation subject to boundary control is presented and compared to the POD reduced models.","PeriodicalId":225201,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2011 American Control Conference","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115302404","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The controller design is based on a physical model of the AFM piezoelectric tube positioner. External capacitors are connected in series with the x and y contacts of the piezoelectric tube to provide measured voltages which are proportional to the charge on the actuator. The parameters for a nonlinear hysteresis model are obtained from measurements of the system frequency response and time domain response. Experimental results show that the robust H∞ controller can increase the scanning speed significantly.","PeriodicalId":225201,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2011 American Control Conference","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115679175","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, they can not be measured online at present, thus the control and optimal operation is hardly to be achieved. This paper presents an on-line fuzzy modeling method to predict the component concentrations. It includes an on-line clustering approach which can be applied in a general class of fuzzy TKS models. Stable learning algorithms for the premise and the consequence parts of fuzzy rules are also given. A measuring device is developed to achieve the proposed method and industry experiments are conducted in the alumina production process, the predicted results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":225201,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2011 American Control Conference","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124433883","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although control techniques have been developed for the heating phase of the thermoforming process, oven heater temperatures in the thermoforming industry are still largely adjusted by trial and error based on the experience of the operator. MPC is one of the advanced methods for process control that has been used in different plants since the 1980s. Even though the MPC controller can handle a multivariable process, the large number of computations makes it difficult to apply to large systems such as multi-zone temperature control in a thermoforming machine. In this paper, the design of a model predictive controller is reported and implemented on a complex thermoforming oven with a large number of inputs and outputs for precise control of sheet temperatures under hard constraints on heater temperature and their rates.","PeriodicalId":225201,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2011 American Control Conference","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114646640","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose two distributed nonlinear algorithms to guarantee finite-time consensus. To facilitate the stability analysis of the closed-loop system using the proposed nonlinear algorithms, we present a general comparison lemma. The general comparison lemma provides an important tool in the stability analysis of linear/nonlinear closed loop systems by making use of known results in linear/nonlinear systems. With the aid of the general comparison lemma, the two nonlinear algorithms are shown to guarantee finite-time consensus by comparing the original closed-loop systems with one or more predesigned closed-loop systems that can guarantee finite-time consensus.","PeriodicalId":225201,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2011 American Control Conference","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116636741","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, six methods are used to dis cretize a benchmark electrolyte diffusion problem and their time and frequency response accuracy is determined as a function of discretization order. The Analytical Method (AM), Integral Method Approximation (IMA), Pade Approximation Method (PAM), Finite Element Method (FEM), Finite Difference Method (FDM) and Ritz Method (RM) are formulated for the benchmark problem and convergence speed and accuracy calculated. The PAM is the most efficient, producing 99.5% accurate results with only a 3rd order approximation. IMA, Ritz, AM, FEM, and FDM required 4, 6, 9, 14, and 27th order approximations, respectively, to achieve the same error.","PeriodicalId":225201,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2011 American Control Conference","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116995142","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here we present a formulation of deception using a two-player game setting. One of the two players deploys a sensor network to gather information on the opponent who in turn can employ deception tactics. We solve the resulting general game using linear programs.
