Preliminary laboratory experiments are promising, but the full-scale realization of this novel system requires the development of high speed modulators for high power, blue-green laser pulses. This paper details experimental and analytical studies performed on a Fabry-Perot modulator suitable for lidar-radar applications.","PeriodicalId":225072,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 1995 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131082738","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A suspended microstrip patch resonator on a magnetized ferrite offers another tuning possibility, which is obtained by varying the distance from the ground plane to the ferrimagnetic layer. The authors investigate the tuning capability of suspended microstrip patch resonators by using a combination of the Hertz potentials and the moment methods. Curves of the resonant frequency and the Q factor are presented as functions of the suspended microstrip patch resonator geometry.","PeriodicalId":225072,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 1995 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference","volume":"91 10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131206003","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two classes of nonlinear devices are discussed: directional couplers as spatial filtering and as wavelength filtering devices, and spatial selection of the beam, by the help of spatial soliton interaction in the waveguide. These devices are analyzed assuming a third order nonlinear material. A discussion of the cubic behaviour of a second order nonlinear material is also included, considering in particular the wavelength filtering properties of the directional coupler.","PeriodicalId":225072,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 1995 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference","volume":"403 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133848645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The desired features usually sought in a calibration method, like accuracy, ease of calibration and low cost, among others, are discussed for each method above. The procedure introduced by Engen can lead to the determination of the scattering parameters of microwave devices from power measurements only, without the complex circuitry of the heterodyne network analyzer.","PeriodicalId":225072,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 1995 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134622968","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Modal and propagation methods are reviewed. An accurate and efficient method for the vectorial modal analysis of waveguides which also permits the treatment of open waveguides including leakage is described and illustrated with examples of complex modes in microwaves and a leaky ARROW structure in optics. The use of finite elements in propagation methods is also briefly described and illustrated.","PeriodicalId":225072,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 1995 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131030356","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We review the various hardware and software components required to develop multimedia lessons and discuss the role of each component in the structure of the multimedia module. Several examples of multimedia products available from the CAEME Center are demonstrated. This includes the extensive electromagnetics software published in Volumes I and II of the CAEME books, the Calculus Castle, the Physics Museum; and interactive multimedia games such as \"Tic-Tac-Toe\" in calculus and \"Frantic Physics\", a space-invaders-type review game in physics. It is shown that although extensive resources and expertise are often needed to develop these modules, the technology is readily available and educators are encouraged to take advantage of these available opportunities to reform engineering, science, and math education.","PeriodicalId":225072,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 1995 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114812633","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
