The absorption due to oxygen and water vapour is derived from experimental radiometric measurements, carried out for one year in Roma, Italy, and calculated with the ITU-R algorithm, based on climatic surface data. The comparison shows that clear sky attenuation, mostly due to water vapour, can be accurately estimated by simplified models, the corresponding discrepancy with the measured \"truth reference\" being, however, dependent upon the degree of air humidity. The resultant indications are of relevance for the design of commercial systems, especially in those climates, such as the tropics, where the vapour density is usually higher with respect to temperate zones.","PeriodicalId":225072,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 1995 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114676109","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, a new kind of noise analysis model of the oscillators is proposed that contains a complete nonlinear noise model of the MESFET. Then an efficient algorithm is proposed to predict the accurate near-carrier phase noise in the microwave MESFET oscillators by the nonlinear current method. Examples of application prove that the new approach is suitable for microwave CAD and excellent in both efficiency and precision in predicting phase noise in the microwave MESFET oscillators.","PeriodicalId":225072,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 1995 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference","volume":"470 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116450299","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work has been done by power utilities and telecommunication companies, which are, in general, state owned companies. However most of this work has been done independently. However, it became necessary to agglutinate this information. Cepel, the Brazilian Electric Energy Research Center, decided to compile all information related to the installation and use of optical cable on transmission lines (OCTL) in Brazil. We believe this work will help companies to link all the existing and planned systems, and to improve their connections and compatibility. The authors show tables and graphs with updated information. They also discuss how these systems can be used to monitor the energy transmission lines in a remote way to improve the system performance.","PeriodicalId":225072,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 1995 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122980962","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The experimental system has a 300 m fiber length per channel. All channels are totally independent both electrically and optically. The measured optical crosstalk (XTK) is <-40 dB, and the thermal XTK is <-30 dB. The total skew is less than 5 ns; and the BER is <10/sup -14/. Successful installation of the optical multichannel interconnection in a digital switching (Tropico RA) system demonstrated error-free operation and no degradation in performance, compared to the present (/spl ap/10 m cable length) standard electrical interconnection.","PeriodicalId":225072,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 1995 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122118630","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One utilizes four external elements oriented along the symmetrical axes of the array and the other uses two of the actual edge elements of the array together with two external elements placed beyond the other ends of the array. In both methods the choice of the external element positions and the use of conjugated phase shifts are utilized to produce a superimposed interferometer pattern whose peaks coincide, approximately, with all of the peaks of the sidelobes and whose zeros coincide with the nulls of the array pattern. Simple closed form expressions for the amplitudes of the cancellation signals that fed to the external elements are given. A comparison is made between the two methods.","PeriodicalId":225072,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 1995 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129412386","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
