Owing to the spectral rearrangement arising from the presence of a coaxial insert, it turns out possible to isolate the desired operating mode from its neighboring competitors. The modelling of an especially designed cavity demonstrates that the corresponding TE-mode spectrum is markedly diluted in the 5-10 GHz range. The coaxial structure with a conical inner rod, is shown to be highly selective, and can find useful applications in high-power gyrotrons and frequency-tunable resonators.","PeriodicalId":225072,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 1995 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117134933","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A simple theory has been developed to calculate the maximum efficiency of these structures. Experiments have been performed at /spl lambda/=1.321 /spl mu/m on several FLTC samples, containing K/sup +/-Na/sup +/ ion-exchanged glass waveguides and spin coated poly-3BCMU films. Insertion losses in the range 3-6.5 dB have been measured, depending on the taper configuration. The agreement between theoretical and experimental data is good, provided that a suitable ripple of the taper profile is assumed.","PeriodicalId":225072,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 1995 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124426471","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For fixed communication links the trend for many years has been of increasing the capacity without necessarily a larger bandwidth, e.g., 155 Mbit/s or 622 Mbit/s links in the synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) network. This lead to complex techniques that are more sensitive to distortion caused by propagation as well as other sources. The techniques used to achieve a greater transmission capacity are higher levels of modulation by combining more bits into a single symbol and by use of dual polarisation. The multipath mitigation techniques cover various diversity reception schemes, transmit power control, channel equalisers, and error correction coding. A deeper understanding of multipath propagation mechanisms is needed both for the development of the various prediction techniques as well as the development of equipment. The Working Group has compiled a database for testing purposes of existing and new prediction methods. It has been of particular importance to include measurements of performance, e.g. bit error rates (BER), as part of the data to be able to give recommendations regarding the merits of various prediction methods.","PeriodicalId":225072,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 1995 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference","volume":"114 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124062621","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The circuit was designed to operate at up to 2.5 Gb/s with low power dissipation. The demultiplexer employs a tree type architecture based on 1:2 demux blocks using tristage flip-flops. A new skip circuit without re-timing was proposed and integrated in the demultiplexer for frame alignment. The proposed skip circuit demonstrated its effectiveness and the IC operated either as a 1:4 or a 1:16 demultiplexer at up to 2.5 Gb/s with a power dissipation of 1 W.
