This specific state estimation problem is motivated by emerging problems in applied fields that are dealing with populations of structurally identical systems for which it is only possible to measure the population as a whole, e.g. due to economic or technological reasons. We adopt a measure theoretical approach in which the group is modelled by an LTI system describing the structure of the individual systems and an initial state which is expressed by a discrete measure. We derive characterizations for the state estimation to admit a unique solution.","PeriodicalId":223665,"journal":{"name":"2015 American Control Conference (ACC)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129169310","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the proposed approach, the optimal boundary control is expressed in integral state feedback form with quadratic kernel function, where the quadratic's coefficients are decision variables to be optimized. We introduce a system cost functional to penalize both state and kernel magnitude, and then derive the cost functional's gradient in terms of the solution of an auxiliary “costate” PDE. On this basis, the output stabilization problem can be solved using gradient-based optimization techniques such as sequential quadratic programming. The resulting optimal boundary control is guaranteed to yield closed-loop stability under mild conditions. The primary advantage of our new approach is that the costate PDE is in standard form and can be solved easily using the finite difference method. In contrast, the traditional control synthesis approaches for boundary-controlled parabolic PDEs (i.e., the LQ control and backstepping approaches) require solving non-standard Riccati-type and Klein-Gorden-type PDEs.","PeriodicalId":223665,"journal":{"name":"2015 American Control Conference (ACC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129258834","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, we design a tracking controller for the velocity vector orientation of the kite. Motivated by empirical data we model the kite steering behaviour as a delayed dynamical system and explicitly utilise the derived model information for the controller design. We identify the involved parameters from experimental data. To adapt to changes in operating conditions we update the parameter estimation on-line. We present results of the derived approach successfully tested in real-world flight experiments.","PeriodicalId":223665,"journal":{"name":"2015 American Control Conference (ACC)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124748150","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This can be cast as a convex optimization problem when certain conditions are satisfied, but it is an infinite-dimensional problem that in general cannot be addressed with existing methods. Given a choice of basis, Q-parametrization can be used to approach the original problem with a finite-dimensional one, whose basis coefficients could be found by an SDP. In this paper, we improve the basis selection phase in three stages. First, we use the poles from the optimal centralized controller as to suggest those for an initial basis. Second, we use sparse optimization methods to effectively select poles from many candidates. Finally, we use a Taylor approximation which allows us to formulate another SDP that systematically adjusts the poles and the coefficients to improve the closed-loop performance.","PeriodicalId":223665,"journal":{"name":"2015 American Control Conference (ACC)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124759466","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While this method is far more accurate than discretizing polynomial filters, it can still be susceptible to problems caused by a sample rate which is significantly higher than the frequencies of the features that the filter is trying to implement. This paper presents a modification, called Δ coefficients, which preserve all the positive properties of the multinotch while dramatically increasing the numerical accuracy over a large frequency range.","PeriodicalId":223665,"journal":{"name":"2015 American Control Conference (ACC)","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126671847","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In contrast to the existing result in Zhang et al., (2007), here we consider multiple controls. First, a necessary condition for the existence of H2/H∞ control is established by using a cross-coupled stochastic backward difference Riccati equations (CSBDREs). In particular, both Pareto and Nash strategy sets are established, and it is further shown that the Pareto strategy set is equivalent to the linear quadratic (LQ) game as the cooperative strategy. Lastly, a simple numerical example is given to show the validity and potential of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":223665,"journal":{"name":"2015 American Control Conference (ACC)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130665021","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The desired value of the vehicle heading is commonly chosen as the tangent direction at the orthogonal projection point of vehicle CG (center of gravity) on the desired path. This paper points out that the traditional definition of the desired heading may deteriorate the path following performance, especially when the vehicle is tracking a path with large curvature. That is because the sideslip angle control and the yaw rate control are conflicting in the presence of sliding effects, and the sideslip angle cannot equal to zero when vehicle is tracking a curve path. This paper further provides an amendment to the definition of the desired heading direction, which renders the path following objective realized more accurately. In the controller design phase, backstepping is used to generate the required yaw rate, which has a form of the P controller, then an LQR controller is adopted to obtain the optimal active front steering (AFS) input. The Carsim-Simulink joint simulation verifies the reasonability of the amendment to the heading error.","PeriodicalId":223665,"journal":{"name":"2015 American Control Conference (ACC)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123518883","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A structure adaptation of nonlinear filters is proposed to reduce errors stemming from approximations made by the filters. The adaptation is controlled by non-Gaussian measures which assess current working conditions of the filter. A large non-Gaussian measure indicates a possible large approximation error and results in splitting the state conditional probability density function. To limit computational complexity of the filter given by the number of terms, a reduction of this number is done by merging some terms. The algorithm of the proposed filter with structure adaptation is detailed using the extended Kalman filter relations. Performance of the filter is illustrated in a numerical example.","PeriodicalId":223665,"journal":{"name":"2015 American Control Conference (ACC)","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121300541","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this scenario, de-centralized controls are more appropriate alternatives. This study proposes a multi-agent control methodology for the optimal control of centralized air conditioning systems that are typically adopted in multi-zone commercial buildings. A hierarchical multi-agent framework is developed in which the agents cooperate to find the optimal operating point. Two consensus-based distributed optimization algorithms are formulated for this specific type of problem, which form the underlying mechanism of intra-agent optimization and inter-agent cooperation. Finally, a 3-zone building case study is used to demonstrate the performance of the proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":223665,"journal":{"name":"2015 American Control Conference (ACC)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121420012","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thanks to an adequate approximation of the delayed input by the Taylor's theorem, an original approach based on observer design is proposed in order to estimate both state and delay. This new technique allows the estimation of time-varying delay. The convergence of the observer is formally proved.
